To measure losses in a transformer with today’s methods is either slow or insecure. There s a new method developed by Alstom that hasn't been actualize in to a test-system and that has been the assignment in this project. The idea is built on a switched system and a CLR- circuit in the resonant frequency. The test-system has a calculated power-loss that make the efficiency to be as high as 99,8% and in reality over 95%. But in the end it was discovered that the circuit was only able to deliver 70A when the thought was 200 A. More over was with the frequency of 200 kHz the signal was so distorted that all results over 100 kHz should be questioned. The goal was a efficiency of 99%. That was one of the basis in our calculation and dimensioning. When we order the components we foundbetter than we needed och the efficiency was improved. In the reality the efficiency is 95% and we think it's because the measurements-instruments accuracy and the distortion. In some measurements the efficiency went over 100% and that greatly improve that idea. Every part of the circuit was simulated piece bye piece and then together. That to increase the understanding of the system and to see that themodel works. The simulated efficiency was very low compared to calculated and in reality. The fact was gathered from literature, technical reports from Alstom and meetings with Per Ranstad et. al. / Om man vill mäta förluster på en transformator skerdetta antingen väldigt osäkert eller väldigt långsamt. Det finns en ny metod som Alstomtagit fram, som inte realiserats i ett bestående testsystem förrän nu, vilket har varit detta projekt. Det hela bygger på ett switchat system och en CLR krets i resonansfrekvens. Det resulterade testsystemet hade en beräknad verkningsgrad på 99,8 % och i verkligheten över 95%. Dock i slutskedet upptäcktes att kretsen endast orkade mata ut 70 A jämfört med det tänkta 200 A. Dessutom vid frekvensen 200 kHz blev signalen väldigt förvrängd av störningar och de resultat för frekvenser från 100 kHz och uppåt kan därför ifrågasättas. Vi satte ett mål på en verkningsgrad på 99% som vi grundade våra räkningar och dimensioneringar på. När materialet skulle beställas hittades bättre komponenter än vad vi satt upp och verkningsgraden förbättrades. Varför verklighetens verkningsgrad hamnar på 95% tror vi har med noggrannheten på mätinstrumenten att göra och störningssignalen. Vissa mätningar uppgick till över 100% verkningsgrad som gör att misstankarna för mätinstrumenten stiger. Alla kretsdelar simulerades bit för bit och ihop för att öka förståelsen för systemet samt se att lösningen funkar. Den simulerade verkningsgraden blev väldigt lågt jämfört med beräknat och verkligheten. Fakta vi använt kommer från flera litteraturer, tekniska rapporter från Alstom och möten med Per Ranstad m.fl.

DSP-Based Research on Rapid Charging Strategy of Lead-Acid BatteryHung, Kuo-Yuan 06 July 2005 (has links)
The Lead-Acid battery has become the power source of several electron product. The major drawback is that it requires long charging time. This thesis is to design a programmable rapid charger and energy recovery scheme with DSP. Furthermore zero-voltage-switching(ZVS) capability of the adopted asymmetrical half-bridge topology enhances the power density of the charger. The energy recovery cell stores the negative pulse energy into DC bus capacitor temporarily to avoid unnecessary energy consumption in conventional schemes. This thesis is experimentally verified on 12V/7.5Ah nonspillable sealed-lead assembled batteries. According to experimental results, the charger can achieve the goal of rapid charge within 1 hour. Because of using the rapid charge algorithm, it can give different charging section depends on temperature and voltage of battery, and it can adjust the over-temperature and the over-voltage of battery to guarantee the battery be charged safely. In this thesis, a prototype module is implemented with mature protection condition. Some experiments are shown to verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

This thesis presents the design and implementation of a single-stage with high power factor asymmetrical half-bridge converter. The main structure combines a boost converter with an asymmetrical half-bridge. An Asymmetrical half-bridge converter has many advantages such as soft-switching properties and fewer components.
Therefore it is suitable for DC/DC cell. The boost converter is used in a PFC cell that operating in discontinuous condition mode have innate ability of power factor correction without additional controller. In this thesis, the complete analysis of operation principle and design of controller for the equivalent circuits of a single-stage AC/DC converter in every operating stage have been described in detail. Finally, we construct the single-stage circuit and experimental result show that it can reach the expected goal for power-factor correction.

O circuito possui um controle de sincronismo aplicado ao transformador de pulso responsável pelo controle das chaves semicondutoras do conversor. A metodologia de projeto do circuito de acionamento de base proporcional isolado é discutida e alguns resultados são mostrados. Além disso, pretende-se empregar esse tipo de conversor em veículos aeroespaciais devido a robustez no circuito de acionamento de base, em específico na Unidade de Suprimento de Energia do satélite universitário ITASAT. Utilizando-se o diagrama esquemático do conversor proposto é feito o equacionamento matemático, a fim de se obter a frequência de oscilação livre, ou natural, a partir do qual é proposta uma metodologia de projeto. A mathematical modeling is done in order to obtain the oscillation frequency (natural frequency) of the converter, from which a design methodology is proposed. DC Charging of Heavy Commercial Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles / DC-laddning av tunga kommersiella plug-in-hybridfordonHällman, Oscar January 2015 (has links)
A solution to reduce exhaust emissions from heavy commercial vehicles are to haul the vehicles completely or partially electric. This means that the vehicle must contain a significant electric energy source. The large capacity of the energy source causes the vehicle to either sacrifice a large part of its up time to charge the source or apply a higher charge power at the cost of power losses and lifetime of the energy source. This thesis contains a pre-study of high-power DC-charge of hybrid batteries from existing infrastructure suited to electric hybrid cars. Following parts are included in the thesis: modeling of a battery pack and a DC-DC converter, formulation of a MPC controller for the battery pack, analysis of charging strategies and battery restrictions through simulations. The thesis results shows that a longer charging time increases the energy efficiency and reduces the degradation in the battery. It also shows that a charging strategy similar to constant-current-constant-voltage charging should be used for a full charge of an empty battery.

cinco nÃveis, concebido a partir das estruturas meia ponte e inversor com grampeamento ativo
do neutro, adequado para aplicaÃÃes com alta tensÃo e alta potÃncia. SÃo apresentados os
possÃveis estados de comutaÃÃo, lÃgica de acionamento, cÃlculo dos esforÃos nos
semicondutores, assim como um estudo de perdas. Duas estratÃgias de modulaÃÃo sÃo
selecionadas possibilitando a operaÃÃo concomitante de metade dos interruptores em baixa
frequÃncia (60 Hz) e a outra em alta frequÃncia (1020 Hz), reduzindo o nÃmero de
comutaÃÃes, consequentemente as perdas nos semicondutores e o conteÃdo harmÃnico da
tensÃo de saÃda. Para validar a proposta, foi desenvolvido um protÃtipo com potÃncia de 7,5
kVA e tensÃo de saÃda eficaz de linha 380 V. AlÃm disso, Ã apresentada a implementaÃÃo de
ambas as modulaÃÃes no dispositivo lÃgico programÃvel escolhido, FPGA. Os resultados
experimentais da estrutura trifÃsica validam a topologia proposta. A estrutura, operando com a
modulaÃÃo baseada na PD-PWM, apresentou DHT de 29,71% e WTHD de 1,93%, enquanto
que a baseada na CSV-PWM apresentou DHT de 38,45% e WTHD de 7,21%. AlÃm disso, o
rendimento da estrutura proposta à superior se comparado ao da topologia Half-Bridge/NPC,
conforme esperado em funÃÃo das perdas na estrutura Half-Bridge/NPC serem maiores e mal
distribuÃdas. / This work presents a new topology of a hybrid five-level inverter, conceived from the halfbridge
and active neutral point clamped structures, suitable for high-voltage, high-power
applications. The possible commutation stages, the switching drive logic, the semiconductors
stresses mathematical analysis, and the losses study are presented. Two modulation
techniques were selected in order to allow low-frequency (60 Hz) switches operate together
with high-frequency switches (1020 Hz), reducing the number of commutations and,
consequently, the overall losses and the output voltage total harmonic distortion. In order to
validate the proposal, it was developed a 7.5 kVA prototype and AC line output voltage of
380 V. The digital implementation from both modulation techniques on the chosen
programmable logic device FPGA is also presented. The experimental results relative to the
three-phase structure validate the proposed topology. The topology, operating with the
modulation based on Sinusoidal In-Phase Disposition - PWM, presented a THD of 29.71%,
and WTHD of 1.93%, while the one based on the Centered Space Vector - PWM presented a
THD of 38.45%, and a WTHD of 7.21%. Besides, the overall efficiency is superior when
compared to the Half-Bridge/NPC topology, as expected, due to the fact that losses on this
structure are higher and misdistributed.

This work presents an analysis of a Piezoelectric Transformer (TP), showing the main types of devices, characteristics, operation modes, among others important points. The parameters of Mason Classic Model are determined by frequency response analysis. The nominal load is determined considering the maximum power transfer and the efficiency from the load tests. In order to obtain a more accurate equivalent model, an optimization methodology of equivalent model is proposed. The criterion used to optimize the model is the minimum standard square error between frequency response of TP and model. To prove the results obtained by the optimization meth-odology, it is presented, in impedance graphs, the curves of model obtained by fre-quency response, optimized model and TP. The optimized model is obtained for dif-ferent segments configurations of TP. The analysis of segments has the goal to adapt the TP to specific applications, enabling the parameters adjust, to different condi-tions of load impedance to maximum power transfer, voltage gain and efficiency, among others. The Half-Bridge practical results with nominal load are presented to all segments configurations, using as resonant converter. / Este trabalho apresenta uma análise sobre Transformador Piezelétrico (TP), mostrando os principais tipos de dispositivos, características, modos de operação, en-tre outros pontos importantes. Os parâmetros do modelo clássico de Mason são de-terminados pela análise da resposta em frequência. A carga nominal é determinada levando em conta a máxima transferência de potência e o rendimento a partir de tes-tes de carga. Para obter o modelo equivalente mais preciso é proposto uma metodolo-gia de otimização do modelo equivalente. O critério utilizado para otimizar o modelo é do menor erro quadrático normalizado e ponderado entre a resposta em frequência do modelo e a resposta experimental do TP. Para comprovar os resultados obtidos pela metodologia de otimização, são apresentados gráficos de resposta em frequência do modelo obtido pela resposta em frequência, do modelo otimizado e a resposta ex-perimental do TP. O modelo otimizado é estendido para diferentes configurações de segmentos do TP. A análise dos segmentos tem como objetivo adequar o TP para aplicações específicas, possibilitando o ajustes de parâmetros, para diferentes condi-ções de resistência de carga para máxima transferência de potência, ganho de tensão e rendimento, entre outros. Resultados práticos com carga nominal são apresentados para todas configurações de segmentos, utilizando como conversor ressonante o con-versor Half-Bridge.

Projeto e desenvolvimento de fontes auxiliares para transformadores de estado sólido / Design and development of auxiliary power supply for solid state transformersKehler, Leandro Becker 31 August 2015 (has links)
This master thesis presents the development of an auxiliary power supply to provide energy to sensors, gate drivers, instrumentation circuits and control of a three-stage Solid State Transformer (SST). These devices require an insulated power supply of ±15V and 5V. For reason of reliability and modularity, a distributed auxiliary source is proposed. Thus, it is necessary a power supply to provide energy to the low voltage (LV) side and another to the medium voltage (MV) side. With this proposal, the auxiliary power supply does not need to have the same galvanic insulation of the SST, 25kV. However, a local power supply must operate at high voltage levels and, consequently, contain a high step-down voltage gain. Relative to LV side, the most generally used topologies as an auxiliary power supply are discussed. However, these topologies cannot be used at the MV converters, due to the high voltage stress levels involved. A study of topologies used on medium and high voltage and which enable to reach a high step-down voltage gain is realized, and two interesting topologies for this application were found. One of them uses a Flying capacitor converter connected in cascade with a Double-Ended Flyback converter. The Flying capacitor converter lowers the DC bus voltage in a controlled manner to low voltage levels. So the Double-ended Flyback converter operates in LV and provides the insulated outputs to command circuits of SST. The other topology is a unidirectional four-level NPC converter operating as Double-ended Flyback converter. For this case, a modulation strategy that allows the converter to reach a high step-down voltage gain was also proposed. These topologies were evaluated and the one which showed the best result was the four-level Double-ended Flyback converter. This converter was implemented and the experimental results prove to be effective. For the LV side, a Half-bridge LLC resonant converter as auxiliary power supply was used. This converter operates in ZVS and performs the output voltage regulation through the operating frequency variation. The experimental results of this converter are also presented. / Este trabalho de mestrado apresenta o desenvolvimento de fontes auxiliares para alimentar sensores, circuitos de comando, instrumentação e o controle de um Transformador de Estado Sólido (SST) de três estágios. Estes dispositivos necessitam de alimentação isolada com tensões de ±15V e 5V e por questões de confiabilidade e modularidade, propõe-se a utilização de fontes auxiliares distribuídas. Assim, emprega-se uma fonte auxiliar para alimentar o lado de média tensão (MT) e outra para alimentar o lado de baixa tensão (BT). Com essa proposta, as fontes auxiliares não necessitam ter a mesma isolação galvânica do SST, 25kV. Entretanto, uma das fontes locais deve operar em níveis de tensão elevados e, por consequência, apresentar baixo ganho estático. No lado de BT, as principais topologias normalmente utilizadas como fonte auxiliar são discutidas. No entanto, devido aos altos níveis de tensão envolvidos, estas topologias não podem ser aplicadas ao conversor que opera em MT. Um estudo sobre topologias aplicadas a média tensão e que possibilitam alcançar um baixo ganho estático é realizado, sendo que duas topologias se mostram interessantes para esta aplicação. Uma consiste na utilização de um conversor de capacitores flutuantes conectado em cascata com um conversor Double-Ended Flyback. O conversor de capacitores flutuantes rebaixa a tensão do barramento CC, de forma controlada, para baixa tensão. Assim o Double-Ended Flyback opera em BT e fornece as saídas isoladas para alimentar os circuitos de comando do SST. A outra topologia trata-se de um conversor NPC de quatro níveis unidirecional operando como conversor Double-Ended Flyback. Para este caso, também foi proposta uma estratégia de modulação que permite o conversor alcançar o baixo ganho estático. Essas topologias foram avaliadas, apresentando melhor resultado a esta aplicação o conversor Double-ended Flyback de quatro níveis, conforme será demonstrado neste trabalho. Esse conversor foi implementado e os resultados experimentais comprovam o seu funcionamento. Para a fonte do lado de BT utilizou-se um conversor Half-Bridge LLC ressonante que opera em ZVS e realiza a regulação da tensão de saída pela variação da frequência de operação. Os resultados experimentais deste conversor também são apresentados.

DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH FREQUENCY POWER CONVERSION TECHNOLOGIES FOR GRID INTERACTIVE PV SYSTEMSLi, Quan, q.li@cqu.edu.au January 2002 (has links)
This thesis examines the development of DC-DC converters that are suitable for Module Integrated Converters, (MICs), in grid interactive photovoltaic (PV) systems, and especially concentrates on the study of the half bridge dual converter, which was previously developed from the conventional half bridge converter. Both hard-switched and soft-switched half bridge dual converters are constructed,
which are rated at 88W each and transform a nominal 17.6Vdc input to an output in the range from 340V to 360Vdc. An initial prototype converter operated at 100kHz and is used as a base line device to establish the operational behaviours of the converter. The second hard-switched converter operated at 250kHz and included a coaxial matrix transformer that significantly reduced the power losses related to the transformer leakage inductance. The soft-switched converter operated at 1MHz and is capable of absorbing the parasitic elements into the resonant tank. Extensive theoretical analysis, simulation and experimental results are provided for each converter. All three converters
achieved conversion efficiencies around 90%. The progressive increases in the operation frequency, while maintaining the conversion efficiency, will translate into the reduced converter size and weight. Finally different operation modes for the
soft-switched converter are established and the techniques for predicting the occurrence of those modes are developed. The analysis of the effects of the transformer winding capacitance also shows that soft switching condition applies for both the primary side mosfets and the output rectifier diodes.
