FÖRSTA LINJECHEFER INOM LSS-BOSTÄDER, UPPLEVELSEN AV RELATIONEN MELLAN ARBETSMILJÖARBETE OCH PEDAGOGISKT ARBETE

Hamzi, Rebecca, Hultén, Alicia January 2020 (has links)
Frontline managers for LSS-housing are responsible according to the WorkEnvironment Act, 1977: 1160 (AML) to ensure adequate the workingenvironment for employees, and at the same time ensure the work provided are ofgood quality and meets the needs of the clients according to Act 1993: 387concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments(LSS). This, together with the presence of challenging behavioramong residents, this is suggested to be complex work situation for frontlinemanagers. The purpose of the study was therefore to investigate how frontlinemanagers for LSS-housing, where challenging behavior occur, experience therelation between work environment and the pedagogical work. The focus of thestudy was to identify factors that appear to promote and obstruct the efforts toensure adequate work environment and pedagogical work. The empirical data forthe study were collected using semi-structured interviews with seven frontlinemanagers. Through thematic analysis, two main themes have been identified:experiences of the professional role and the experience of the relation betweenwork environment and pedagogy. The result has been analyzed with MichaelLipsky theory, Street-level Bureaucrats. The result shows that practice leadershipis perceived as being vital to maintain good quality in the pedagogical work, which in turn contributed to a better working environment. The study identifiescomplexity and challenges in the relation of work environment and pedagogicalwork in three categories: (1) organizational factors, (2) frontline managersprofessional role; and (3) lack of knowledge of the staff. Further research istherefore needed on how practice leadership influences the level of knowledge inthe organization and how it affects the support work with the clients, as well as itaffects, the work environment and the frontline managers professional role andduties.

Effects of Global Warming on Work-Rest Routines for Crop Workers in Appalachia

Silver, Ken, Li, Ying, Odame, Emmanuel, Zhang, Yuqiang 07 November 2017 (has links)
Background: Workers in outdoor occupations are expected to be at high risk of increased morbidity and mortality, and diminished productivity, as a result of global warming in the 21st century. A previous modelling study of geographic variations in heat-related mortality risk in projected U.S. populations mid-century showed the states of Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina to be highly vulnerable. Methods: Under both the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 emissions scenarios of IPCC AR5, we evaluate the effect of future warming on estimated Wet Bulb Globe Thermometer (WBGT) temperatures using model-simulated future climate variables that were dynamically downscaled by a regional meteorology model for years 2049-2052. Select Appalachian counties in the three states that are presently dependent upon agricultural crop production are the focus of this analysis. Results: Using predicted WBGT temperatures, together with estimated work loads for hand harvesting of crops, alterations in work-rest routines under heat stress prevention guidelines are presented. Conclusions: Assumptions needed to translate these altered work-rest routines into measures of productivity and economic loss are discussed. Issues in extending the modelling to heat-related morbidity and mortality in outdoor worker populations are considered in terms of data gaps and major sources of uncertainty.

The attribution factor applicable to the civil responsibility of the employer for work accidents, in the framework of the work safety and health regime

Indigoyen Vegas, Brandon Martín 17 February 2020 (has links)
Occupational Health and Safety is a discipline which regulatory development began in Peru less than two decades ago. Despite this, it currently represents one of the most relevant issues that employers consider when organizing their business activity. This is due to the fact that Law 29783 establishes obligations for them to meet their workers, in order to guarantee adequate protection. Likewise, the mentioned norm contains in its article 53 the disposition on the origin of the civil responsibility of the employer before the breach of its duty of security. Its content is insufficient as regards to the reference of the applicable attribution factor. Therefore, judicial pronouncements on compensation for work-related accidents have been characterized as not being uniform in regard to this criterion. In order to end this uncertainty, as of 2017 the Supreme Judges have used procedural institutions to state that the correct interpretation of the rule is that the employer is responsible for any harmful event of the worker. This meant the official establishment of the objective attributive model, although the regulations of the Civil Code provide that in the cases of liability for non-performance of obligations the subjective applies. In this regard, the present investigation intends to identify the appropriate attribution factor in the case of the employer's civil responsibility for accidents at work, in the light of the Occupational Health and Safety regime. / Tesis

An Evaluation of the Approach Used by an Ergonomics Software Program to Predict Arm Strength Using Participant-Specific Elbow and Shoulder Strengths

Hall, Andrew 11 1900 (has links)
Ergonomics software programs often use an independent axis approach (IAA) to calculate resultant shoulder strength to predict manual arm strength (MAS). The IAA treats strength about each joint axis (joint axis strengths: JAS) in the arm as independent motors, which all combine to complete an exertion. However, this form of modeling is not a true physiological representation of how the shoulder/arm function. The weighted average approach (WAA) was proposed, which combines the axes by weighting each strength based on its relative contribution to the resultant moment vector. The primary purpose of this thesis was to test the IAA using participant-specific JAS values, such that it afforded the IAA the best opportunity to predict MAS accurately. The secondary purpose was to test the WAA, to determine if it was a viable replacement for the IAA. Fifteen university age females completed two data collections. One tested the eight different JASs for the shoulder and elbow, and the other tested participant’s MASs in four hand locations and six exertion directions. The JAS force data, and postural kinematic data (from the MAS collection), were inputs into two models, which completed the MAS predictions. A 4 x 6 x 3 repeated measures ANOVA revealed a significant three-way interaction between hand location, exertion direction, and method of MAS estimation (p<0.0001) on MAS. The most important finding of the thesis was that both the IAA and WAA predictions were significantly different than the MAS values. The IAA and WAA explained only 17.9% & 19.1% of the variance with RMS errors of 74.5 N & 73.4 N, respectively. This indicated that ergonomics software programs, using the IAA, should not be used to make arm strength predictions by ergonomists, and that WAA was not a viable replacement for the IAA. / Thesis / Master of Science in Kinesiology
