A critical evaluation on SRK STORE APP by using the Heuristic Principles of Usability

This thesis aim is to do a critical evaluation on SRK STORE APP (Shopping app for android) by applying the heuristic principles of usability, to obtain the usability issues or problems for the respective mobile application. Another vital element of this thesis is to attain the necessary suggestions for the respective mobile application by accomplishing the principles of the heuristic evaluation required for the mobile application. On the other hand, the outcome should be demonstrated that the mobile application is user flexible by following the principles of heuristic. Background: To be aesthetic and attractive, the mobile application should be given an ideal user experience with usability. So we decided to focus on this utility field and while looking through the different articles, we came across one that talks about design principles and their concepts. The current thesis idea has been obtained by the literature survey we have done on the design principles of the heuristic evaluation and its concepts. This thesis is to attain the necessary suggestions and as well as the complemented solutions/recommendations for the specific mobile application by accomplishing the principles of the heuristic evaluation required for the mobile application. Objectives: The main objectives of this project are examining the design principles and identifying the usability issues or problems of the respective mobile application and anthologizing a list of necessary suggestions for enhancing the mobile application and providing absolute recommendations to the existing application. Methods: To compile a list of necessary suggestions and providing absolute recommendations for the mobile application, we have applied Jakob Neilson’s design principles. This specific method aids in determining the utility of design criteria and aids in the transformation of the interactive system by analyzing factors such as usability. Using this method, we will provide a concise detailed overview of the importance of design principles in an interaction. The key aim of employing design principles of usability is to ensure the performance and reliability of the effective interaction design, to provide meaningful user interaction assistance, and as well as to dispense an acceptable and optimal user experience. Results: The results here obtained are the usability issues of the respective mobile application i.e., SRK STORE APP, and the heuristic principles which are not satisfied by the specific mobile application. The severity level of the heuristic principles will have resulted and the list of necessary suggestions for enhancing the mobile application and providing absolute recommendations to the existing application. Conclusions: This study was conducted to evaluate the mobile application. Heuristic evaluation methodology was used to evaluate the system. Jakob Neilson’sdesign principles were used to depict the usability issues of the mobile application. The required suggestions and absolute recommendations/solutions are provided to the existing mobile application.

Comparative Study of Mobile Payment Apps: Google Pay and PayPal using Nielsen’s Usability Heuristics

Mobile banking is a feature bringing customer transactions to the doorstep of mobile users by sitting at home. As the demand for mobile payment applications has increased, numerous payment applications are developed throughout the world. Every payment gateway must have certain customer acceptable conditions, usability is one such condition wherein every mobile payment application must fulfill the condition of user friendly with easily understandable features to the customer. Usability is guided by certain well-defined principles, for the optimum benefit of the user. Many researchers have worked on mobile payment applications but there are limited studies on usability comparison of payment gateways. Hence, an attempt is made in the present study to understand the two applications in two different socio-cultural contexts of Indian and Swedish societies, viz., Google Pay and PayPal respectively, on usability principles. The present study is designed with the objectives to analyze and compare satisfaction on Nielsen’s heuristic principles of PayPal and Google Pay payment users, and to the understanding association between satisfaction on Nielsen’s heuristic principles and various independent variables. A survey questionnaire, called “Personal Attitude Inventory for Measurement of satisfaction on Heuristic Principles” was developed to measure the satisfaction of users on heuristic principles of Nielsen of PayPal and Google Pay users. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire are established. The questionnaire is administered to 36 subjects, 18 subjects who are using Google Pay are drawn from India, and the other 18 subjects, using PayPal, are drawn from Sweden. Student t-tests and chi-squared tests are used to analyze the data. Significant differences are not found between PayPal and Google Pay users on the overall heuristic principles of Nielsen, and also on each of the 10 heuristic principles of Nielsen. It is inferred that both PayPal and Google Pay users are comparable on all heuristic principles. Majority of the users of these payment gateways have more satisfaction on all 10 heuristic principles. Results of the study further revealed no association between socio-demographic independent variables like age, gender, and different types of users of PayPal and Google Pay and satisfaction on heuristic principles. These two payment gateways have more or less equivalent features, facilitating similar perceptions and satisfaction levels on heuristic usability principles of Swedish and Indian samples. Several views are put forth for further research.

A comparison through heuristic evaluation of two MOOC platforms:Coursera and Udemy

In recent years thousands of people worldwide have been using Massive open on- line courses (MOOCs) for various reasons, including career development and change, continuing education, lifelong learning, and training. MOOCs are free online courses that anyone can enroll in and are an affordable and flexible way to learn new skills, develop professionally, and provide quality educational experience across the globe. Having an exemplary user interface will make users prefer most MOOC platforms, which inspired this study to know which MOOC platform has usability and better user experience by using the survey evaluation. The main objective of this study is to measure the usability components(effectiveness, efficiency, and overall user satisfaction level) to determine which MOOC platform, Coursera or Udemy, has a better user experience using the heuristic principles. A quantitative research method has been used in this paper, which focuses on sta- tistical, mathematical, and numerical analysis of data collected through surveys, questionnaires, and polls. In this paper, a questionnaire to determine user satis- faction through surveys has been developed. Usability has been evaluated for each MOOC platform (Coursera and Udemy) by calculating usability components. Sta- tistical methods like variance and standard deviations has been calculated using the survey results. Responses from the survey evaluation are collected and are graphically represented in bar graphs and pie charts. Respondent’s timings and statistical method results are presented in a tabular form. The satisfaction level is calculated and represented in a Likert scale format. The usability of two MOOC platforms (Coursera and Udemy) was measured by cal- culating usability components. Better user experience among Coursera and Udemy is measured using usability heuristic principles. This study concludes that effec- tiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction level while performing eight tasks given to the user is similar in both MOOC platforms (Coursera and Udemy). From the survey evaluation, the users preferred Udemy over Coursera.
