Improving the Caching Performances in Web using Cooperative Proxies

Huang, Li-te 03 February 2009 (has links)
Nowadays, Web caching technique has been widely used and become one of the most promising ways to reduce network traffic, server load, and user-experienced latency while users surf the Web. In the context of traditional systems, caching techniques have been extensively studied. However, these techniques are not directly applicable to Web due to larger size of working set and cache storage in proxies. Many studies have presented their approaches to improving the performance of Web caching. Two of most representative approaches are hash routing [25] and directory-base digest [12]. Hash routing provides amapping fromthe URL of object to the location of proxy, which has the cached object, while directory-based digest records the pairs of proxy locations and object URLs for answering the query when local misses occur in any proxy. Hash routing can best utilize storage space by eliminating duplicated objects among proxies, while directory-based digest allows object replicas among proxies to resist proxy failures. These two conventional approaches have complementary tradeoffs. In this thesis, a comprehensive approach to cooperative caching for Web proxies, using a combination of hash routing and directory-based digest, is presented. Our approach tends to subsume these widely used approaches and thus gives a spectrum of trade-off between the overall hit ratio and its associated overhead. Through the simulations using real-life proxy traces, the performance and overhead of our proposed mechanism were evaluated. The experimental results showed that our approach outperforms the previous competitors.

A marketing analysis of how baby boomers can manage their chronic health conditions through digital health information technologies

Nettleton, Laura Jeanne 15 July 2011 (has links)
This paper explores chronic health issues as it relates to baby boomers and their use of digital technology. After considering how baby boomers use mobile devices and Internet technologies and what types of information they seek out within these platforms, further examination is done on health related topics such as healthcare, health literacy, and chronic health conditions. In recognition of baby boomers' likely development of one chronic condition or multiple occurring ones (known as comorbidity), three new health technologies are analyzed based on their ability to help individuals manage their chronic conditions. From these three technologies, smart pills, the Health Journal for Pain, and lx Conversations, individual marketing plans are recommended according to how they will benefit baby boomers in regards to better self health management in later adulthood years. / text

Cheminformatic Approaches to Hit-Prioritization and Target Prediction of Potential Anti-MRSA Natural Products

Oselusi, Samson Olaitan January 2020 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / The growing resistance of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) to currently prescribed drugs has resulted in the failure of prevention and treatment of different infections caused by the superbug. Therefore, to keep pace with the resistance, there is a pressing need for novel antimicrobial agents, especially from non-conventional sources. Several natural products (NPs) have displayed varying in vitro activities against the pathogen but few of these natural compounds have been studied for their prospects to be potential antimicrobial drug candidates. This may be due to the high cost, tedious, and time-consuming process of conducting the important preclinical tests on these compounds. Hence, there is a need for cost-effective strategies for mining the available data on these natural compounds. This would help to get the knowledge that may guide rational prioritization of “likely to succeed” natural compounds to be developed into potential antimicrobial drug candidates. Cheminformatic approaches in drug discovery enable chemical data mining, in conjunction with unsupervised and supervised learning from available bioactivity data that may unlock the full potential of NPs in antimicrobial drug discovery. Therefore, taking advantage of the available NPs with their known in vitro activity against MRSA, this study conducted cheminformatic and data mining analysis towards hit profiling, hit-prioritization, hit-optimization, and target prediction of anti-MRSA NPs. Cheminformatic profiling was conducted on the 111 anti-MRSA NPs (AMNPs) retrieved from literature. About 20 current drugs for MRSA (CDs) were used as a reference to identify AMNPs with promising prospects to become drug candidates.

Hit song analysis on the Swedish music market : An exploration of hit song classification

Hurtig, David, Lager, Petter January 2023 (has links)
Assessing hit song potential is a challenge in the music industry. The question of what song to promote, which song to release first and whether or not it will succeed has always been an issue for stakeholders in the music business. The ability to statistically evaluate hit song potential is a growing field with several studies exploring the topic. In this study we explore the field of hit song science and explore the Swedish hit song profile. We compile hit songs in Sweden between the years 2020 to 2023 and evaluate the distinction between hits and non-hits by using several machine learning methods. The question of assessing lyrics is explored by encoding topic content by using chat-GPT on song lyrics. An accuracy of 70.1% concerning the ability to correctly predict whether a song has been a hit was achieved with the RandomForest algorithm and the feasibility of statistically quantifying hit song potential and its future direction as a research field is discussed.

Successful Strategies for Implementing Health Information Technology in Primary Care Practice

Otoo, Samuel O 01 January 2019 (has links)
Health information technology (HIT) owner-practitioners who adopt effective strategies for HIT implementation can improve primary facility care delivery and profitability. However, some HIT owner-practitioners have ineffective implementation strategies, so they have not realized the total revenue increases of more than 8%. Grounded in general systems theory, the purpose of this multiple case study was to explore successful strategies primary care practitioners (PCPs) use to implement HIT to improve primary facility care delivery and profitability. The participants included 6 owner-practitioners located in Queens County, NY, who successfully implemented HIT to improve facility care delivery and profitability. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and a review of relevant practice documents. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, yielding 3 themes: HIT education and training, costs of transitioning to HIT, and focusing on expected benefits of successful HIT implementation. By providing information on effective HIT strategies, the findings from this study could impact social change because PCPs may rely on faster and more accurate health information data to offer better diagnoses and enhance treatments for patients.

Developing Policies and Guidelines to Prevent Medication Errors and ADEs in Nursing Homes

Johnson, Marion 01 January 2016 (has links)
According to the National Patient Safety Foundation, more than 1.5 million Americans are affected by medication errors because of varied factors including miscommunication, bad handwriting, name confusion, poor packaging, and metric or other dosing unit errors. This project addressed medication errors and adverse drug events by developing policy and practice guidelines to support and aid the utilization of health information technology (HIT) systems in addressing medication errors and adverse drug events at a local nursing home in Cincinnati, Ohio. The National Quality Strategy Framework was used by a team of interdisciplinary stakeholders as a guide for the development of policies and practice guidelines. An interdisciplinary project team of institutional stakeholders was led by the DNP student through a review of literature to assess the effectiveness of current policies and guidelines and explore areas for improvement. New policy, practice guidelines, and educational materials were developed, along with plans for implementing and evaluating the policies in the institution. Policy and practice guidelines were shared with 4 scholars possessing expertise in health information technology to validate content of the products. Feedback was used to inform revision and preparation of final policy, practice guidelines, educational materials, and plans for implementation and evaluation. The implementation plan advocates a process that includes multiple stakeholders and institutional preparatory stages. The evaluation plan addresses multiple outcomes related to efficiency and patient safety, and proposes both intermediate and long-term evaluation based on comparisons of pre-post metrics routinely collected by the institution. Following implementation and evaluation, dissemination of results of the project may stimulate positive social change by reducing medication errors in similar health care institutions that adopt related measures.

En hit på 120 minuter : Hur effektiviserar jag mitt låtskrivande? / A Hit In 120 Minutes : How Do I Streamline My Songwriting?

Linnerstam, Alexander January 2023 (has links)
