The relationship between the attitude of secondary school Mathematics educators towards school and the achievement of their learnersMwiria, David 06 1900 (has links)
This research investigates the relationship between the attitude of senior secondary mathematics educators towards school and the achievement of their learners. A literature study examined research into the relationships between an educator's attitude towards his or her school management team, colleagues, learners, parents, the subject of mathematics and the factors influencing mathematics achievement. An empirical investigation used a quantitative research design to collect data from selected senior secondary schools in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. A questionnaire was used to gather data and a statistical data analysis was conducted to calculate frequencies and test hypotheses. Findings indicated the existence of a relationship between educators' attitudes towards school and the achievement of their learners. It was therefore recommended that school managers should be very sensitive to the climate prevailing in their schools in order to encourage mathematics educators and thus, indirectly, learners in this vital subject. / Educational Studies / M. Predicting satisfaction with quality of work lifeFourie, Anna Sophia 30 June 2004 (has links)
A survey was done in order to identify the predictors that contribute to satisfaction with qowl. A positive correlation was found between satisfaction with facets of work life and overall satisfaction with qowl. No significant difference was found between overall satisfaction and the mean of the satisfaction with the facets of work life.
Organisational climate seemed to have the greatest influence. Significant predictors are identification with the organisation, participation, communication, resource management, work group functioning, reward system, health and safety aspects, job security and the rate of pay. Significant differences were found between rank, occupational, race and age groups.
When need non-fulfilment scales are added to facets of work life measures, increase in the prediction of overall satisfaction is significant. The need to do work that supports moral values contributed most significantly to overall satisfaction. The most frequent preference was for financial security, followed by recognition, relationships and for achievement. / Psychology / M.A.

The Shona subject relationMhute, Isaac 23 September 2011 (has links)
This study delves into the syntactic notion of subject relation in Shona with the aim of characterizing and defining it. This is done through analysing data collected from two of the Shona speaking provinces in Zimbabwe, namely, Harare and Masvingo. The data collection procedures involved the tape recording of oral interviews as well as doing selective listening to different speeches. The data were then analysed using the projection principle, noun phrase movement transformational rule as well as the selectional principles established for the subject relation in the other well researched natural languages. The research found out that there is no one single rule that can be used to determine the subject of every possible Shona sentence. One has to make use of all the seven selectional principles established in the well-researched natural languages. The research managed to assess the applicability of the selectional rules in different sentences. The rules were then ranked according to their reliability in determining the subjects of each of the various Shona sentences. It also came to light that the Shona subject relation has a number of sub-categories as a result of the various selectional rules involved in determining them. These were also ranked in a hierarchy of importance as they apply in the language. For instance, whilst some are assigned to their host words at the deep structure or underlying level of syntax, some are assigned at the surface structure level and can be shifted easily. It also emerged that the freedom of the subject relation in the language varies with the sub-category of the relation. It came to light as well that in Shona both noun phrases (NPs) and non-NPs are assigned the subject role. / African Languages / D. Litt. et Phil. (African Languages)

Training and development programme : performance of employees at a South Africa platinum mineTshikovhi, Elelwani Rosemary 22 April 2013 (has links)
This study sought to determine the impact of a training and development (T&D) programme on the perceived performance of human resource assistants at a platinum mine in South Africa according to the following four performance dimensions: (i) personal (ii) customer; (iii) internal business; and (iv) learning and growth. A non-experimental design was used for this study, which was predominately quantitative in nature. Data was collected using a structured, self-administered questionnaire, which consisted of closed-ended questions.
Based on the results obtained in this study, it was apparent that the T&D programme contributed significantly to an increase in the performance of employees. However, there are certain areas that can be improved in order to maximise and optimise the learning of employees. Recommendations were made regarding areas for improvement and possible future research. / Human Resource Management / M. Tech. (Human Resources Development)

The Interpretation of children's drawings : guidelines for teachersNoqamza, Mtandiwesizwe Patriot 01 1900 (has links)
The primary aim of this research was to determine whether teachers in their initial
or in-service training have acquired a basic knowledge of the interpretation of
children's drawings of human figure.
A literature study was done in which the focus was placed on major aspects such
as:
• The normal development of children's drawings according to different stages,
and
• Those drawings that deviate from the normal development and their implications.
• Reliability of children's drawings as a projective tool.
A measuring instrument was developed in order to measure the basic knowledge
of teachers with regard to the interpretation of children's drawings of human figure.
The results of the empirical research indicated that teachers have limited basic
knowledge with regard to the interpretation of children's drawings. The educational
implications with reference to teachers, education system and other professionals
were discussed. Recommendations for further research on similar topics were made. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (with specialisation in Guidance and Counselling)

The views of management on affirmative action in Telkom SA Ltd / Menings van bestuut aangaande regstellende optrede in Telkom SA BpkDe Witt, Delano Errol 06 1900 (has links)
The success or failure of implementing affirmative action lies with the
management of enterprises. This research - based on a literature study,
questionnaires completed by 200 respondents and the researcher's model for the
implementation of affirmative action - focuses on management's views on
aspects of importance for affirmative action to succeed in the enterprise.
From the views of management it is clear that
• the more closely affirmative action impinges on the career expectations of
the current incumbents, the more resistance and non ownership can be
expected
• the affirmative action message must be communicated sincerely and
positively
• diversity management must change drastically to focus on educating
persons to understand not only themselves, but also others of different
backgrounds, race, gender, skills, persuasion and experience
• the enterprise needs to accelerate the process to identify potential, training
and development processes as well as performance coaching of
disadvantaged groups
Meeting the above challenges, will require mutual trust, respect and
communication. / Summaries in English and Afrikaans / Die bestuur van ondernemings bepaal die sukses of mislukking by die
respek en kommunikasie vereis / Economics and Management Sciences / M.Com. (Business Management)
