Impossible Differential Cryptanalysis Of Reduced Round Hight

Tezcan, Cihangir 01 August 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Design and analysis of lightweight block ciphers have become more popular due to the fact that the future use of block ciphers in ubiquitous devices is generally assumed to be extensive. In this respect, several lightweight block ciphers are designed, of which HIGHT is proposed by Hong et al. at CHES 2006 as a constrained hardware oriented block cipher. HIGHT is shown to be highly convenient for extremely constrained devices such as RFID tags and sensor networks and it became a standard encryption algorithm in South Korea. Impossible differential cryptanalysis is a technique discovered by Biham et al. and is applied to many block ciphers including Skipjack, IDEA, Khufu, Khafre, HIGHT, AES, Serpent, CRYPTON, Twofish, TEA, XTEA and ARIA. The security of HIGHT against impossible differential attacks is investigated both by Hong et al. and Lu: An 18-round impossible differential attack is given in the proposal of HIGHT and Lu improved this result by giving a 25-round impossible differential attack. Moreover, Lu found a 28-round related-key impossible differential attack which is the best known attack on HIGHT. In related-key attacks, the attacker is assumed to know the relation between the keys but not the keys themselves. In this study, we further analyzed the resistance of HIGHT against impossible differential attacks by mounting a new 26-round impossible differential attack and a new 31-round related-key impossible differential attack. Although our results are theoretical in nature, they show new results in HIGHT and reduce its security margin further.

Combined Attacks On Block Ciphers

Oztop, Nese 01 August 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Cryptanalytic methods are very important tools in terms of evaluating the security of block ciphers in a more accurate and reliable way. Differential and linear attacks have been the most effective cryptanalysis methods since the early 1990s. However, as the technology developed and more secure ciphers are designed, these fundamental methods started to be not so efficient. In order to analyze the ciphers, new methods should be introduced. One approach is inventing new techniques that are different from the existing ones. Another approach is extending or combining known cryptanalytic methods to analyze the cipher in a different way. This thesis is a survey of the attacks that are generated by combination of existing techniques and their applications on specific block ciphers. Mentioned attacks are namely differential-linear, differential-bilinear, higher order differential-linear, differential-nonlinear, square-nonlinear, impossible differential and boomerang type attacks.

Rossoni, Thiago dos Santos January 2017 (has links)
Globalization approached individuals, businesses and governments economically around the world. In this way, financial investors take decisions searching for governments or companies which are willing to pay "more interests" for the financial capital invested. Thus, financial globalization and economic liberalization are closely related to the exchange rate and monetary policy. The essence of this relationship was developed in the 1960s by Mundell and Fleming as the "Trinity Impossible", that means to achieve only two out of three desirable goals of a nation: financial integration, exchange rate stability and monetary autonomy. In this context, the main goal of this study is to analyze the influence of financial globalization that affects Brazilian interest rates, observing the current context of financial globalization in the world and in Brazil; and the interactions between monetary and exchange markets. So, this study is very important because globalization has made the globe not just an astronomical figure, but a territory in which everybody is related, and there is an range of relationships unrealized every day. That will become apparent in this study. For that, there are five parts in this study. Part one will be an introduction of the theme; part two will deal with financial globalization, from an overview of the subject to its effects in the world and in Brazil; part three will present the interactions of monetary and exchange markets; part four will present the Trinity Impossible; part five will evaluate aspects that affect Brazilian monetary policy, by a econometric model, which explains Brazilian interest rates as a function of some endogenous and exogenous parameters; and part six will highlight the main findings on the influence of financial globalization that affects Brazilian interest rates, especially in the last fifteen years in Brazilian history.

The quest for identity by Patrick Modiano's characters : between fiction and history

Radhi, Sattar Jabbar 17 October 2015 (has links)
This thesis’ aim is to expose the meaning and evolution of a search for identity which stems from an original loss, or the absence of all things (absence of life) which provokes an urgent need to find oneself. This paradoxical quest initiates a movement that is both centripetal and centrifugal. That movement is apparent through the desire of building an identity as well as through the will to permanently erase all identity. The study draws and dwells upon a dialectical logic which shapes the conscience of the self throughout a long fictional initiation. While analysing the roots of that identity tension from a historical standpoint, we aim at answering the following question: to what extent identity proves unattainable in Modiano’s first trilogy ? Since the thesis explores a search for identity torn between fiction and history, we ask if the question of identity as posed by the author points to conflictual and problematic identity on scientific grounds. We built our study around the turbulent journey of narrators situated in a fictional and threatening context where components of an all-Parisian fictional geography come together. In front of history’s ambiguities and memory’s disorders, writing proves the only means capable of giving Modiano’s narrators a writer’s identity, thus enabling them to fight annihilation and non-existence. Though narrators do not succeed in finding themselves through writing and through other people’s memory, they sometimes manage to get closer to their identity through asymptotic writing which warrants somewhat identity. From the fragmentary nature of the texts, we explore the evolution of narrators. The latter reflect the author’s identity which progressively takes shape as they go back in time. Last, it can be said that the protagonist manages to get out of the disorderly times, which for a long period seemed inevitable, and thus attains a greater lucidity in his literary search for identity.

Maximizing the VR Play Space by Using Procedurally Generated Impossible Spaces : Research on VR Play Spaces and Their Impact on Game Development

Eklund, Vendela January 2022 (has links)
Background. Virtual Reality is a growing sector that provide the most immersive gaming experiences, especially when the locomotion technique natural walking is used. However, it is always limited by the physical play space available for the user. Introducing Impossible Spaces, also called Overlapping Maps, which when combined with Procedural Content Generation based on the users play space could maximize the experience. Objectives. The aim of this thesis is to implement a potential solution for procedurally generated impossible spaces that are sized according to the VR users playspace. Ultimately testing how the Execution Time is affected when subjecting the implementation to different sized play areas and number of maps to overlap. In addition to this, the thesis will examine the play space setup of various experiencedVR users. Methods. The three core algorithms of the implementation - Grid and Maze generation, as well as Portal placement - are evaluated in terms of execution time. A questionnaire was created for gathering data on VR users and their play space setup. Results. Questionnaire gathered 45 results in total. A majority had access to a play space area of 2-5 square meters. The VR users’ experience affected the size ofthe play space. The execution time for the core algorithms showed promising resultsin terms of execution time. Conclusions. Since most VR users do not have a large play space and the proposed solution performed well, it could be used to enhance the VR experience.

Real impossible worlds : the bounds of possibility

Kiourti, Ira Georgia January 2010 (has links)
Lewisian Genuine Realism (GR) about possible worlds is often deemed unable to accommodate impossible worlds and reap the benefits that these bestow to rival theories. This thesis explores two alternative extensions of GR into the terrain of impossible worlds. It is divided in six chapters. Chapter I outlines Lewis’ theory, the motivations for impossible worlds, and the central problem that such worlds present for GR: How can GR even understand the notion of an impossible world, given Lewis’ reductive theoretical framework? Since the desideratum is to incorporate impossible worlds into GR without compromising Lewis’ reductive analysis of modality, Chapter II defends that analysis against (old and new) objections. The rest of the thesis is devoted to incorporating impossible worlds into GR. Chapter III explores GR-friendly impossible worlds in the form of set-theoretic constructions out of genuine possibilia. Then, Chapters IV-VI venture into concrete impossible worlds. Chapter IV addresses Lewis’ objection against such worlds, to the effect that contradictions true at impossible worlds amount to true contradictions tout court. I argue that even if so, the relevant contradictions are only ever about the non-actual, and that Lewis’ argument relies on a premise that cannot be nonquestion- beggingly upheld in the face of genuine impossible worlds in any case. Chapter V proposes that Lewis’ reductive analysis can be preserved, even in the face of genuine impossibilia, if we differentiate the impossible from the possible by means of accessibility relations, understood non-modally in terms of similarity. Finally, Chapter VI counters objections to the effect that there are certain impossibilities, formulated in Lewis’ theoretical language, which genuine impossibilia should, but cannot, represent. I conclude that Genuine Realism is still very much in the running when the discussion turns to impossible worlds.

Yet there is the indelible mark of humor, wherever it is. In this dissertation, I propose a reading of his work by deploying French philosopher Jacques Derrida, emphasizing how the construction of the other happens. I aim at Mill?r Definitivo: A B?blia do Caos, but other works will be contemplated when necessary. In order to carry out the analysis, I will offer a general exposition of Millorian work (especially Mill?r Definitivo:A B?blia do Caos) and a general sketch of Derridian philosophy, centered on his discussion on Western philosophy, literature and alterity. At the analysis itself, I will set the methodological axis on the quasi-concept of invention. The analysis shall stress the hypothesis of humor as the experience of alterity and impossible, showing off the humorist as the totally other. In the Millorian text, that experience is characterized by conflictivity, without possibility of resolution / O humorista brasileiro Mill?r Fernandes teve uma produ??o distribu?da em v?rios campos, desde a literatura at? as artes visuais e o jornalismo. A an?lise dever? fazer emergir a hip?tese do humor enquanto experi?ncia da alteridade e do imposs?vel, situando o humorista enquanto totalmente outro.

Noiseux-Germain, Bénédicte 29 June 2023 (has links)
