Research on ¡uOne Deal a Day¡v Business Model - A Case Study of WOOT!

Su, Jo-Chiao 10 August 2011 (has links)
As a result of the prosperous growth of electronic commerce businesses and the rapid progress of the information technologies, various innovative e-commerce business models are emerging. In recent years, there is a new and very successful e-commerce business model called ¡§One Deal a Day.¡¨ It is surprising that the way how the One Deal a Day violates many principles of doing good business in the past. For this reason, the purpose of this thesis is to study why and how One Deal a Day can succeed by analyzing the empirical data collected from WOOT! which is the starter of One Deal a Day business model. Overall, the unique characteristics of One Deal a Day include single item only at any moment, 24 hours only or even shorter of selling, great discounts, funny story as marketing tactics, and full of uncertainty. Based on these characteristics and literature, we conclude the success of One Deal a Day is resulted from hedonic consumption and impulse buying behaviors. According to the analysis of empirical data, when the selling time is shorter and more uncertain, or when the price is cheaper, it will encourage more impulse buying. However, the time pressure will negatively moderate the impact of the price on impulse buying. From the aspect of consumer loyalty, we found that One Deal a Day business model is easy to build up consumer loyalty. In addition, when the selling time is shorter and more uncertain, it will attract more consumers with high loyalty, but less new consumers.

The Effect of Point of Purchase on Impulse Buying Behavior-The Case Study of Western-Style Fastfood Industry

Liu, Yu-Hua 29 February 2012 (has links)
With the change of world economy and the constant innovation of technology, people¡¦s lifestyle and eating habits have changed tremendously. And There are more and more people like to eat out. When they are choosing restaurants, the western-style fastfood will be often taken into account. In fact, eating too much fast food in high calories will cause nutrition disorders and fatness. So consumer should keep careful attitude toward this kind of food. In Taiwan, every western-style fastfood corporation is in high competition. In order to increase sales and market share, firms adopt different marketing strategies to attract consumers. When new products are launched, the point of purchase advertising will be replaced right away to convey product information to customers. Therefore, the research chooses McDonald¡¦ s, Mos Burger and Burger King because they are top corporations. The main purposes as follows: 1. Among McDonald¡¦ s, Mos Burger and Burger King¡¦s point of purchase advertising, to explore the relevance between impulsive buying behavior and point of purchase advertising. 2. To research the revision effect of impulse buying characteristics and demographics. This research analysis consumers¡¦ behaviors after seeing point of purchase advertising in Mcdonald, Mos Burger, and Burger King. After analyzing, we found that consumers in Mcdonald, Mos Burger and Burger King has lower ratio of impulsive buying behavior. Thus, point of purchase and impulsive buying behavior are low connected. About revision effect of impulsive buying characteristics, only Mos Burger has revision effect. About demographic variables, age, educational level and monthly income don¡¦t have revision effect in three research objects. And about sex, only Mos Burger has revision effect.

Empirical analysis of interest rate channel between Taiwan and U.S

Chen, Wen-ren 18 June 2012 (has links)
This paper applies a Factor-augmented error correction model proposed by Banerjee. A, Marcellino. M¡]2009¡^to measure the impact of the United States¡¦ monetary policy on Taiwan. The FECM model has the following advantages. First, it has refined the dynamic factor model, since it allows us to include the error correction terms into equation. Second, we can improve FAVAR model¡¦s shortcomings, the common factor lack of economic interpretation, by using the method of Belviso. F, Milani. F¡]2006¡^. Third, the cointegration can analyze long-run and short-run dynamics of non-stationary variables. Forth, we propose the generalized impulse respone to analyze the FECM model, it doesn¡¦t require orthogonalization of shocks and is invariant to the ordering of the variables. Finally, we indeed prove the interest rate channel does exist in Taiwan and United States through the method of FECM model.

Factors that affect the share price index of Taiwan's solar energy industry¡Ðthe crude oil prices and industry scale

Deng, Yu-chi 19 June 2012 (has links)
This paper discusses the factors that affect the share price index of Taiwan solar power industry, crude oil prices and the size of the solar manufacturers in Taiwan and Taiwan's market index into the consideration. In addition, considering whether the policies implemented by our government would change the solar industry in Taiwan¡¦s stocks structural .Using the correlation coefficient, the unit root test, Chow test, cointegration test , vector error correction model, impulse response and forecast error variance decomposition to explore their relationship respectively. The study period starts from January 3,2002 until December 30,2011, a total of 2450 daily data for empirical analysis. By Chow test , we find that there is no structural change of solar stock index after the implementation of the domestic policies. Three international crude oil prices and the total share capital of solar manufacturers in Taiwan and the Taiwan solar power industry stocks index has co-integration relationship, means the three international crude oil prices and solar companies total share capital of solar stock index has a long-run equilibrium relationship. By the error correction model of West Texas crude oil price of Brent crude oil prices, the total share capital of the solar companies in Taiwan and Taiwan solar stock index mutual interaction, and the relationship between changes in Taiwan's solar stock price index and Brent crude oil price, West Texas crude oil prices and the total manufacturers of solar energy manufacturers in Taiwan¡¦s share capital are positive, besides, I also found a positive relationship in the impulse response.

The Baseband Signal Processing and Circuit Design for IEEE 802.12.4a-2007 Impulse Radio Ultra-Wideband System

Wu, Jia-Hao 13 August 2012 (has links)
In recent years, the requirement of application such as wireless sensor networks and short-range wireless controllers caused the growing of ZigBee technology. ZigBee is a communication technology developed specifically for short-range, low rate, low-cost wireless transmission. There are some characteristic such as short-range, low rate, low cost, and low power. The ZigBee Aliance group developed the specifications of software, and IEEE 802.15.4 group developed the specifications of hardware. IEEE 802.15.4a impulse radio UWB physical layer is one of the ZigBee physical layers. In our study, we designed a baseband signal processing algorithm meeting the specifications of IEEE 802.15.4a. The data processing flow in transmitter followed the specifications. In receiver, we designed baseband algorithms based-on the non-coherent energy detection scheme. Our algorithm including packet detection, synchronization and demodulation, and considering the implementation of algorithm, reducing the complexity of hardware as possible and improving the efficiency. Finally, the system performance is 3.9dB better than the receiver sensitivity.

The Relationship between Price Indices and the Prices of Property Stocks

Hsu, Hua-wen 14 August 2012 (has links)
As the price level soars up, it become more important to study the dynamic relation between stock prices, price indices. In this paper we suspect that property stocks serve as tools of anti-inflation and examine whether there exists a positive correlation between the prices of property stocks and price indices, such as the Rent Index, CPI, and WPI. Our results confirm the positive correlation between the prices of property stocks and the price indices. More precisely, it is revealed by applying VAR and the impulse response analysis that the positive correlation between the prices of property stocks and CPI/WPI in the short run. Using the cointegration analysis, we detect the long-run relation between the prices of property stocks and the Rent Index.

Research on Immediately Promote E-coupon to Improve Retailer Yield Management Problems

Chang, Cheng-hsuan 16 August 2012 (has links)
As the e-coupon group-buying is getting popular, there are many sellers using e-coupon group-buying as an advertising strategy by providing e-coupon with big discount. However, there were many complaints from consumers saying that they couldn¡¦t reserve the services on peak time as they wished. It turns out that the sellers could not achieve the advertising effect but the negative image. We found the good time for sellers doing advertising by selling e-coupon is on the off-peak time. Based on above observation, this study tried to explore whether the service industry can enhance the impulse buying behavior and thus improve yield management performance by selling e-coupons through mobile devices. An online experiment with questionnaire was implemented to collect research data. The research results include: (1) The quantity of e-coupon provided by the sellers will not have significant impact on time pressure perceived by the consumers directly. However, if the limited quantity lets consumer recognize its scarcity, it will increase consumer perceived time pressure and perceived value as well. (2) In addition to the perceived scarcity, the e-coupon discount also has positive influence on consumer perceived value. (3) The shorter distance the location of the store is, the better perceived location will be. (4) The consumer impulse buying intention will be impacted by the perceived time pressure, perceived value, perceived location and impulse characteristic of the consumer. Among them, the perceived value has highest influence and the second is consumer impulse characteristic followed by the perceived location.

Ultra WideBand Impulse Radio in Multiple Access Wireless Communications

Lai, Weei-Shehng 25 July 2004 (has links)
Ultra-Wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) technology is an attractive method on multi-user for high data rate transmitting structures. In this thesis, we use the ultra wideband (UWB) signal that is modulated by the time-hopping spread spectrum technique in a wireless multiple access environments, and discuss the influences of multiple access interference. We discuss two parts of the influences of multiple access interference in this thesis. The first, we analyze the multiple access interferences on the conventional correlation receiver, and discuss the influences by using the time hopping code on different multiple access structures. The second, we know that the performances of user detection and system capacity would be degraded by the conventional correlation receiver in the multiple access channels. The Probabilistic Data Association(PDA) multi-user detection technology can eliminate multiple access interferences in this part. We will use this method to verify the system performance through the computer simulations, and compare to other multi-user detectors with convention correlation receivers. Finally, the simulation results show that the performance of the PDA multi-user detections is improved when the system is full loaded.

Incorporation of Finite Impulse Response Neural Network into the FDTD Method

Chou, Yung-Chen 26 July 2005 (has links)
The Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method (FDTD) is a very powerful numerical method for the full wave analysis electromagnetic phenomena. Due to its flexibility, it can be used to solve numerous electromagnetic scattering problems on microwave circuits, dielectrics, and electromagnetic absorption in biological tissue at microwave frequencies. However, it needs so much computation time to simulate microwave integral circuits by applying the FDTD method. If the structure we simulated is complicated and we want to obtain accurate frequency domain scattering parameters, the simulation time will be so much longer that the efficiency of simulation will be bad as well. Therefore, in the thesis, we introduce an artificial neural networks (ANN) method called ¡§Finite Impulse Response Neural Networks (FIRNN)¡¨ can speed up the FDTD simulation time. In order to boost the efficiency of the FDTD simulation time by stopping the simulation after a sufficient number of time steps and using FIRNN as a predictor to predict time series signal.

The Cause of Current Account Deficit of The United States

Lai, Sue-ping 28 July 2005 (has links)
Trade deficit, financial deficit, and current account deficit of the United States have all been problems deeply concerned by economists and politicians in recent decades. Since the third season of 2000, a recession of the United States and the whole world has gradually started to appear. In addition, as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq the stock market has begun to decline significantly. In order to promote the recovery of its economy, the federal government determines to adopt the expanded financial policy which will most likely in the end cause its financial deficit more serious. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors that influence the current account deficit of the United States. Because the study considers foreign variables that related researches ignore, we choose five variables as follows: regional output differential, regional interest rate differential, terms of trade, regional real effective exchange rate, and current account. Therefore, we adopt the Unit Root Test, the Granger Causality Test, the Co-integrating Test, and SVAR (Structural Vector Autoregressive) model to run RATS and E-views. It is the finding of empirical result that the United States government considers terms of trade and current account that can't be quantized of the first importance rather than the exchange rate factor that general research is thought. This is one of the contributions of the study.
