Comparison of the accuracy of direct versus indirect bracket placement in orthodontics: An in vitro studyStreit, Günther Arthur January 2020 (has links)
Magister Scientiae Dentium - MSc(Dent) / The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of direct versus indirect bracket placement in
orthodontics in a controlled setting. The more accurate the initial bracket placement is the less time
will be required in terms of treatment. Accurate bracket placement can reduce the envelope of error in
the three dimensions of vertical (incisal height, height of tooth), horizontal (mesial-distal) and angular
(degrees incisal to root apex causing rotational irregularities) based on Andrews’ six keys to normal
occlusion (Andrews, 1979).
In this comparative experimental study, 10 Class I molar relation study models were selected from the
researcher’s practice archives. Only the MBT pre-adjusted or angulated orthodontic brackets were
used on manikins, followed by the use of 3D CAD CAM technology to evaluate the results against a
pre-determined golden standard.

ExigÃncias nutricionais de cordeiros da raÃa Somalis brasileira / Nutritional requirements of brazilian Somali lambsRildson Melo Fontenele 07 November 2014 (has links)
We used 48 sheep Brazilian Somali growing, non-castrated, age and body weight (BW) average of 60 days and 13.47 1.76 kg respectively. After a 20 day adaptation period, eight animals were slaughtered and used as a reference for estimates of empty body weight (EBW) and initial body composition of other animals. The remaining animals were distributed in a randomized block design, with the treatments, diets with different levels of metabolizable energy (1.18; 2.07; 2.25; 2.42 and 2.69 Mcal/kg DM), with eight repetitions. The weight of slaughter animals was determined when the weight average of the five treatments was 28 kg. The net energy requirement for maintenance was estimated extrapolating the logarithmic regression equation of heat production, depending on the metabolizable energy intake (MEI) to the zero level of MEI. The daily excretion of nitrogen (N) was estimated by extrapolating to N consumption regression equation (g/BW0.75 kg/day) as a function of the N retention (g/BW 0.75 kg/day) for consumption zero. They were adjusted regression of log equations fat content, protein and energy in the logarithm of EBW animals. The concentration of net energy for maintenance diet was obtained by dividing the heat production in fasting, the DMI to maintain energy balance in g DM/kg EBW0.75. The validation of the SRNS model was performed using the simple linear regression model fit between the predicted values (independent variable) and observed (dependent variable), variables were analyzed DMI and BWG. The body composition was determined using the composition of the right half carcass, as well as a sample of the section HH, obtained from the left crankcase half. In middle housing cooled left, retreated cutting the section HH, the cross section of the 9th-10th-11th rib at the point corresponding to 61.5% of the distance between the sectioned vertebrae and the beginning of the 12th rib cartilage in then, the HH section was ground in grinder industrial and homogenised meat. The average daily gain and empty body weight gain increased linearly with increasing metabolizable energy levels. But the final body weight, body weight at slaughter, empty body weight, dry matter intake and metabolizable energy intake showed a quadratic effect (P<0.001) with increasing energy level. Energy and fat EBW of the animals increased from 2.77 Mcal/kg to 209.17 g/kg to 3.47 Mcal/kg to 294.08 g/kg EBW, respectively, and increased the BW 13.00 to 28.70 kg. Consumption of nitrogen showed quadratic effect with point of maximum of 2.59 Mcal/kg DM of metabolizable energy, corresponding to the maximum consumption of N of 2.90 g/kg BW0.75/day. As for the nitrogen retained daily, there was a positive linear correlation with the increase in metabolizable energy levels in the diets. There was a decreased amount of protein in the empty body of animals with increased EBW, from 143.71 to 122.52 g/kg EBW, when the animals increased the body weight of 13.00 to 28.70 kg. The daily excretion of N was estimated at 0.128 g/BW0.75 kg/day. The body composition of Brazilian Somali sheep ranges from 538.28 to 593.93 g/kg EBW for water, from 228.17 to 353.13 g/kg EBW for fat, 114.53 to 157.93 g/kg EBW for protein and from 17.94 to 31.68 g/kg of EBW of mineral matter, for diets containing 1.18 to 2.69 Mcal/kg DM, respectively. The net energy requirement for maintenance is 45.63 g/kg EBW0.75/day. The increase in animal weight of 13.00 to 28.70 kg BW increases the deposition of fat from 283.75 to 398.93 g/kg EBW and energy of 3.42 to 4.30 Mcal/kg EBW. The protein requirement for maintenance is 0.80 g/BW0.75 kg/day, with a decreased protein requirement for EBW of 119.72 to 102.07 g/kg EBW, as the weight increases by 13.00 to 28.70 kg. The use efficiency of metabolizable energy for maintenance is 0.67. Already use efficiency of metabolizable energy for gain varies from 1.85 to 0.43 for diets containing 1.18 to 2.69 Mcal/kg DM, respectively. The net requirements of energy and protein increase with increasing body weight and increase in body weight gain of Brazilian Somali sheep. The model Small Ruminant Nutrition Systems is sensitive to predict dry matter intake, however, underestimated in 5.18% the average daily weight gain. The section HH satisfactorily estimated the chemical composition of water, protein and fat in the carcass and empty body, while the mineral content was underestimated around 27.07% 14.91% housing and empty body. The water content, crude protein and carcass fat can be predicted by section HH. Finally, the chemical composition of section HH can be used to replace the chemical composition of the carcass to predict chemical composition of empty body in Brazilian Somalis sheep. / The objective of the following work to determine the nutritional requirements of energy and protein in Brazilian Somali sheep. The Duke of Uncertainty -Aspects of Professional SkillAlsterdal, Lotte January 2001 (has links)

The Duke of Uncertainty - Aspects of Professional Skillis a dissertation whose title is a literary metaphor designedto draw attention to encounters with unforeseen problems anddilemmas at work.

The first part of the dissertation presents the skill andtechnology tradition that has developed over the last twentyyears through explorative case studies. These have covered theskills of various occupational groups, such as processoperators in the paper-and-pulp and chemicals industries, managers and systems engineers working on real timeapplications in specialized knowledge intensive firms as wellas doctors and nurses.

The theoretical perspective is the epistemology of skillfocusing on the phenomenon of tacit knowledge. This has itsroots in Wittgenstein's philosophy of language as developed bythe philosophers Allan Janik and Kjell S. Johannessen.

The methodological framework develops indirect analogicalthinking which is a prerequisite for knowledge based onexperience, through exemplification.

The empirical part of the work shows knowledge offamiliarity among members of an occupational group with lowformal training but extensive practical experience, namelyassistant nurses. A comparative analysis is undertaken inrelation to previous case studies in the field of skill andtechnology aimed at occupational groups with high formaleducational qualifications.

A particular aspect to which attention is drawn is therhythm in work that unites occupational groups regardless ofeducational background. Occupational skill is treated as acapacity developed to find rhythm in action when confrontedwith situations that are hard to handle. The dissertationconsiders aspects that can be tried out in other occupationalarenas and paves the way for identifying phenomena in workinglife that hinder the development of rhythm in work.

The dissertation contributes to the setting-up ofundergraduate-level training for groups of people who have notpreviously had access to higher education, and aims tointroduce new aspects into the development of analoguethinking.

Key words: practical versus theoretical knowledge, skillof epistemology, tacit knowledge, comparative case study, literary metaphor, analogical thinking, indirect method, occupational training.

Avaliação e calibração de um osteodensitômetro para estimação da composição química corporal e composição de tecidos dissecados de suínos / Evaluation and calibration of an osteodensitometer to estimate body chemical composition and dissected composition in porkSilva, Marcos Kipper da 20 February 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / A series of studies have been developed to evaluate and calibrate a bone densitometry device (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry DXA) as an indirect method for body, carcass, and pork evaluation. Thus, the technology was tested for its precision in repeatability and reproducibility conditions. The effect of the sample edge, temperature, and thickness of the sample, and the effect of modifying the composition of the sample by the addition of tissue were also tested. In addition, software packages were evaluated. Finally, a protocol was developed to calibrate the method estimating the chemical composition of entire body and half carcass; and the dissected tissue composition of half carcass and primary cuts. The repeatability and reproducibility of the equipment were in general satisfactory; however, some regions of interest should be avoided, such as the trunk. The reduction of the edge perimeter did not change the results provided by the device. The temperature had a slight effect on the results; however, a wide variation in temperature is necessary to generate a small change in DXA results. The thickness variation of a sample with constant composition was one of the factors that most influenced the DXA measurements. For this reason, the techniques for standardization considering this factor are crucial to enable this device utilization. The evaluated software were Total body and Small Animal, each one with its three configurations totaling six studies. Both software could be used to estimate the composition of dissected tissues; however, the more extensive was the dissection the lower was the accuracy of the method. Thus, estimating an amount of a particular tissue in a half carcass was more accurate than estimating the same tissues in the primal cuts. The calibration procedure allowed obtaining translation models with good accuracy and precision to estimate the chemical composition and dissected tissues. In addition, measurements took in a condition could be used to estimate the composition in another one. However, when the measurement was more specific then greater was the precision of estimation. Accurate results were achieved after small methodological adjustments. This happened because the factors affecting DXA measurements were quantified and easily corrected with method standardization. The DXA is an important tool for animal evaluation. Thus, DXA should be considered in future studies.

NR 20140805

Estudo, in vitro, da influência da técnica e do aparelho de fotopolimerização na resistência de união de pinos intra-radiculares / In vitro study of influence of technique and light curing unit in retention force of fiber post systemNagase, Denis Yudi 04 March 2010 (has links)
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to verify the influence of light curing type on retention force of direct technique and direct-indirect technique. Methods: Fourth bovine single root teeth with 12mm of length were used in this study. The roots were endodontically treated and randomly divided in four groups according to the light curing unit and technique used: group 1(direct technique, halogen lamp), group 2(direct technique, LED), group 3(direct-indirect technique, halogen lamp), group 4(direct-indirect technique, lamp). The retention force was determined sing a Universal Testing Machine (Instron). All data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test. After the test, the failure was examined and classified according to the fracture place: post/ resin; resin/dentin; mix. Results: Group 3 (246,05N ± 29,51) and 4(241,60N ± 28,95)4 (95,18N) did not show statistically difference but presented higher retention force than group 1 (142,30N ± 25,60) and 2 (178,56N ± 25,67). Most of fracture occurred in interface between dentin/resin. Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that adhesive cementation technique influenced in the retention of glass fiber post.

Controle e gerenciamento de uma microrede com célula a combustível, painel fotovoltaico e armazenador de energia / Energy management and control of a microgrid using fuel cell, photovoltaic panel and energy storage deviceFuzato, Guilherme Henrique Favaro 15 July 2019 (has links)
The improvement of techniques and devices applied to the energy conversion of alternative energy sources, in the distributed generation context, has an important role for the definitive establishment of the new paradigm of energy delivery and consumption. In this context, this PhD thesis addresses a proposal of an energy management strategy for microgrids with fuel cells and photovoltaic panels as primary sources, operating with storage devices. In the proposed control scheme, it is possible to highlight two control techniques: droop k-sharing and MPPT-ST. With the droop k-sharing technique, it is possible to design a specific dynamic behavior for the Fuel Cell, while the battery absorbs the complementary (high frequency) spectrum. Additionally, the use of the k-sharing variable with droop technique makes it possible to share the energy between the two sources without the need of a high-speed communication link. On the other hand, with the MPPT-ST technique, the photovoltaic modules can be operated in the MPP or off-MPP by using a simple dynamic anti-windup strategy. For the stability analysis using the Lyapunov Indirect Method, it is proposed a state space technique to couple the DC-DC converters models using the DC-link capacitor. Finally, to evaluate the proposed theoretical algorithm and analysis, simulations and experimental results are presented.
