A vida social das formas literárias : crítica literária e ciências sociais no pensamento de Antonio Candido / The social life of literary forms : critical literacy and social sciences at the thought of Antonio Candido

Ramassote, Rodrigo Martins, 1979- 10 July 2013 (has links)
Orientador: Heloisa Andre Pontes / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-23T11:10:47Z (GMT). This thesis aims at discussing the possible intersections between literary criticism and social sciences throughout the intellectual production of Antonio Candido. Although well commented - though, in most cases, in a rather disqualifying manner - there are few studies that advance in the direction of a substantive analysis of the implications, effects and impacts of this close interaction between the fields, reflections and researches to which he was dedicated along his trajectory. Accordingly, I intend to contribute to the expansion of a line of investigation that evoked scarce attention, but in recent years has been receiving significant contributions: a survey of the thematic connections and common analytical challenges that are found throughout the work of Candido. Therefore, I selected a representative portion of his production, in a broader effort to deepen its reading and interpretation, departing from information coming from his social and familial experiences, his political affiliation and institutional path, and, on the other side, major academic and intellectual debates in which he participated. This thesis is divided into two parts: first, the focus is on the literary footnotes signed by Candido in the main newspapers of São Paulo as well as a significant portion of his books thereof. In the second, the attention turns to two of his main literary studies by examining the effect of certain sociological theses defended by the author in his writings in the area of social sciences in the analytical study of classic Brazilian novel / Doutorado / Antropologia Social / Doutor em Antropologia Social

A coragem da verdade e a ética do intelectual em Michel Foucault / The courage of truth and ethics of intellectual Michel Foucault

Vieira, Priscila Piazentini, 1981- 21 February 2013 (has links)
Orientador: Luzia Margareth Rago / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-22T08:05:14Z (GMT). This thesis handles the interest of Michel Foucault in the question of parrhesia in the ancient culture as well as his reflections on the ethical construction of the individual. This problematization integrates the philosopher's late studies, from 1982 to 1984, dedicated to working on the ethics, the aesthetics of existence and the care of the self in the Greco- Roman world. It is also inserted in his considerations on a "historical ontology of ourselves", based on a historical critique that aims at releasing and surpassing the existing conditions of the present time. The change in Foucault's mind between the late 1970 and early 1980, especially in what concerned the problem of the truth, is then highlighted. When favoring the ancient idea of courage of the truth, he tries to escape from the predominant ways to understand the truth in the modernity, which are connected with the christianity and the modern science. In this context, the return to Antiquity through the studies of the Socratic and Cynic parrhesia, for instance, allows Foucault to question the figure of the "universal intellectual" dominant over the nineteenth and twentieth century's and propose, via the figure of the "specific intellectual", a new relation among the truth, the politics and the production of knowledge. The study of GIP (Information Group on Prisons) showed the peculiarity of Foucault's own activism, as it problematized the figure of the intellectual as the guide of the masses, the relation between theory and practice, the distinction between proletariat and the lunpemproletariat, the notion of self-criticism, etc. From among Foucault's thought and experience, it is seen the emergence of the ethics of the intellectual committed to the refusal of the individualization and subjection promoted by the modern State and who urgently aims at creating in his time ethics that invest in the creation of new ways to live / Doutorado / Historia Cultural / Doutor em História

Odisseu e o abismo : Roger Bastide, as religiões de origem africana e as relações raciais no Brasil

Nucci, Priscila 12 December 2006 (has links)
Orientador: Elide Rugai Bastos / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-07T19:52:36Z (GMT). In this thesis we analysed how the French sociologist Roger Bastide (1898- 1974) articulated the terms race/religion in this thought, and how, from this uses he elaborated a very peculiar reflections about prejudice and ¿race relations¿ in Brazil. Our analysis focused in specifics aspects of Bastide¿s texts, in which we can search his formulation to the debate of acculturation, cultural interpenetration, afrobrazilian religions and race relations. The candomblé from the nagô rite is showed in his texts as a sui generis case of integration and seems to be the key for understanding the reasons through which the author elaborated a certain kind of image and analysis about the afrodescendent population in this context. The others keys are: the polemic around the reportages published in Paris Match and O Cruzeiro ¿ about the secret rituals of the candomblé and the possible uses that the author did for the surrealism and the history in O Candomblé da Bahia and As Religiões Africanas no Brasil. All those directions contributes to a complex analysis and suggests new functions and intentions for some of most importants texts of Roger Bastide, considering the time in which the were written / Doutorado / Pensamento Social Brasileiro / Doutor em Sociologia

In 1923 Qu Qiu-bai returned from Soviet Russia to China and gradually aligned himself with the power nucleus of Chinese Communist Party as an important political theorist within the Party. Much of the polyphonic elements exemplary in Qu's thoughts, as seen in his earlier writings, had given way noticeably. As purported by mainstream academic queries, Qu's metamorphosis into a Bolshevik had often been accounted for his nevertheless brief stay at the Soviet Russia. The present study, however, confers a dissimilar view in attempting to locate the polyphonic registers in Qu's thoughts. It is found that Qu's thoughts had been characterized by a strong sense of polyphonic nature throughout, whether in his earlier or later works. / In resembling the overlooked complexity of Qu's thoughts, Chapter 3 goes on to inquire how Qu's construction of subjectivity is determined by his specific perspective of history---one which comprised of a synthesis of Creative Evolutionism and Dialectic Materialism. Such construction of subjectivity is important in understanding Qu's contested presence and agency in revolutionary political situations of the early 20th century. Chapter 3.1, thereafter, locates the relevance of Qu's construction of subjectivity to his notion of "orphan pushed away from track" in a re-reading of his widely acknowledged essay "Preface to Lu Xun's Collected Essays." This reading is coupled with a discussion of Qu's "Travel Notes on New Russia" through which Qu's specifications of "suicide" and spatial imagery of the heterotopias will be expounded. Working upon research outcome of this coupled query, a close reading of Qu's confessional note "Superfluous Words" will serves to elucidate Qu's proposition of a negated subjectivity. Chapter 3.4 gives a comparative analysis of the later political lives of Qu and Nikolai Bukharin. It attempts to establish that the outright negation of subjectivity is an implicit tendency in historical materialism. Lastly, Chapter 4 attempts to illustrate Qu's revolutionary subjectivity and his specific notion of pendulum time in recourse to the tropes of pendulum movements: "Revolution/Work," and "Love/Freedom." / The study begins with a topic of research that mainstream academic queries left mostly unanswered: namely, Qu's appropriations of Bergonism, the Yogacara School and Anarchism exemplary in his early writings. This line of query delineates how the 3 major traditions of thoughts compositely engaged Qu in his approach of Bolshevik political practices and Dialectic Materialism. On the basis of this, the study further examines the trajectory how Qu observed in his endorsement of Dialectic Materialism over Bergon's Creative Evolutionism (L'evolution Cretienne). The study also finds that such a pendulum movement from Philosophy of Life towards Dialectic Materialism largely concurred the thoughts and discourses of Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci, a contemporary of Qu. Following this, the study compares the two men's notions and problematic of "the Intellectuals". A comparative analysis of Qu's theorization of the "Historical Tool" and Gramsci's "The Modern Prince" is offered at this part of study. / Adviser: Lee Ou-Fan; Wang Wai Ching. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 69-08, Section: A, page: 3146. / Thesis (doctoral)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2007. / Includes bibliographical references (p. 243-256). / Electronic reproduction. / The author intends to discuss the reception of Tao Yuanming in the Early Qing Dynasty from the aspects such as the emotions of poets, the changes of poetics, the intentions of poetries, the poetic imageries and the differences of the editions. And, it is the first work focusing solely on the reception of Tao Yuanming in the Early Qing Dynasty. Regarding the research methods, this dissertation not only studies the critiques through the existed methods, but also analyses the existed materials in a different manner. By comparing the literary allusions of Tao Yuanming’s life of 40 scholars lived in Early Qing who had different social background, the thesis discusses how these people constructed the images of Tao Yuanming and how they selected from Tao’s qualities. The thesis also tries to sort out the different attitudes of Tao among scholars of Early Qing and its changes with regard to the historical context. / Based on the research, the author finds out that the existed understanding of the reception of Tao Yuanming in the Early Qing, which focuses on the leftover citizen’s aspect, and which portrays Tao image as a rebellion was largely incomplete. Apart from the vigorous discussions regarding the images of Tao among the leftover citizen, the non-leftover citizen also discussed Tao with great enthusiasm. Under this circumstance, a new form of He Tao Shi(和陶詩) “poems written to match Tao’s , was found in opposite mode in order to response to those leftover citizen. / By appropriation of Tao’s images in their communication and responding each other especially in poems, scholars lived in Early Qing expressed their uneasiness and pain as in the change of the regime through reading, commentary and writing of Tao’s collections. Thus, this special kind of poem allowed the Early Qing scholars to escape from the distress of the reality to an ideal world, a typical example of which was “Peach-Blossom Spring created by Tao Yuanming. This tendency reflected in the editions of Tao’s works in Early Qing Dynasty that Tao’s poems received much attention while other forms of works were not included in the collections of works. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2013. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 331-376) / Abstracts in Chinese and English. / Abstracts in English and Chinese. / Liang Shufeng.
