Characteristics of the subsidence inversion over the eastern North Pacific Ocean north of the 48th parallel

Lilly, Kenneth E. Jr 28 November 1977 (has links)
Average characteristics of subsidence inversions associated with the Pacific High have only been documented for areas along the U.S. West Coast and over the tropical eastern North Pacific Ocean. This study, which is based on 3414 upper-air soundings for June through September of 1964 and 1965, shows the average summer season characteristics of the inversion from Tatoosh Island, Washington northward along the coast of the Gulf of Alaska. A comparison is also made with the subsidence inversion found over the eastern North Pacific Ocean from Johnston Island (17°N, 168.5°W) to Ocean Station PAPA (50°N, 145°W). Some of the more notable findings are: (a) a diurnal oscillation of the height of the inversion base exists, except in the regions of Yakutat and Anchorage, Alaska; (b) the height of the inversion increases with increasing latitude from Tatoosh Island to Anchorage; (c) the inversion thickness decreases from Tatoosh Island to Anchorage; (d) subsidence inversions are most pronounced over the California coast compared to any other location between Johnston Island and Anchorage. / Graduation date: 1978

Essays on sticky prices, aggregate investment and monetary policy.

Weinke, Lutz 31 March 2005 (has links)

Time change of the tropical inversion layer and of turbulent statistics

Rossignol, Dominique Jacques January 1973 (has links)
Measurement of turbulent fluctuations of wind temperature and humidity to determine the momentum, sensible heat and latent heat surface fluxes were made in Bimini Island, in April - May 1971 over Grand Bahamas Banks. The temperature spectralshape and WT cospectral shape showed strong time dependency. The temperature and humidity turbulent fluxes were dissimilar some of the time as in the case of B.O.M.E.X. This dissimilarity and time dependency of the spectra and cospectra depend on the structure of the vertical profile of deeper layers which is determined by the evolution of the tropical inversion layer. / Science, Faculty of / Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Department of / Graduate

Why Corporations Avoid Taxes Through Inversions: How To Fix the United States Tax System

Naon, Joshua 01 January 2015 (has links)
The current United States tax code regarding inversions and collection of foreign taxable income is outdated in a heavily globalized world market. Multinational corporations have played games to circumvent the current inversion tax code, Section 7874, in order to lower their effective tax bill. The avoidance of taxes stems from the high corporate tax rate combined with the United States’ worldwide taxation policy, which few countries in the developed world implement. The fear for United States politicians and citizens alike is that the current trend of tax inversions will increase to the point of an exodus of corporations to tax havens. This paper will begin by analyzing inversions, from both a corporate view and a government view. It will delve into why inversions have become so prevalent today. This paper will offer a proposal to prevent unfair inversion practices by U.S. corporations and make suggestions to remove the root of the problem: a high corporate tax rate. Ultimately, this paper will conclude that an adaption of the current inversion prevention provision combined with lower taxes will not only benefit the U.S. corporations, it will maintain the current government tax revenue received from corporations, and increase cash flow into the United States.
