Finanskrisens effekt på utbildning : En paneldatastudie på kommunnivå över sambandet mellan finanskrisensrealekonomiska konsekvenser på Sveriges ekonomi och den potentiellainverkan på de nationella proven

Finanskrisen 2008–2009 medförde förödande konsekvenser för hela globen förra decennietvilka sipprade in och orsakade rippeleffekter på oväntade områden. Uppsatsens syfte kommervara att undersöka ett outforskat område, nämligen finanskrisens kausala inverkan påstudieresultat. Studien kommer ämna att använda instrument som mäter finanskrisens effektmot respektive kommun tillsammans med difference-in-difference metoden för att mäta omkommuner med hög exponering mot konjunkturkänsliga branscher presterar relativt sämre påde nationella proven i engelska, svenska, matematik och genomsnittligt meritvärde jämförtmed kommuner med låg exponering. Resultatet var att difference-in-difference estimateten förmatematik och genomsnittligt meritvärde var negativa och statistiskt signifikanta menpräglades av osäkerhet.

The alcohol use disorders identification test (AUDIT), a screening instrument to identify individuals at risk of alcohol use-related problems, has not been validated in a Russian primary care population. We assessed the reliability, factor structure, sensitivity, and specificity of AUDIT scores among 254 subjects initiating tuberculosis treatment from 2005 to 2007 in Tomsk City. Our findings support the use of the AUDIT as a screening instrument among Russian individuals seeking primary care. We discuss implications, limitations, and future research.

DNA Polymerase λ Can Elongate on Dna Substrates Mimicking Non-Homologous End Joining and Interact With XRCC4-Ligase IV Complex

Non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) is one of two pathways responsible for the repair of double-strand breaks in eukaryotic cells. The mechanism involves the alignment of broken DNA ends with minimal homology, fill in of short gaps by DNA polymerase(s), and ligation by XRCC4-DNA ligase IV complex. The gap-filling polymerase has not yet been positively identified, but recent biochemical studies have implicated DNA polymerase λ (pol λ), a novel DNA polymerase that has been assigned to the pol X family, in this process. Here we demonstrate that purified pol λ can efficiently catalyze gap-filling synthesis on DNA substrates mimicking NHEJ. By designing two truncated forms of pol λ, we also show that the unique proline-rich region in pol λ plays a role in limiting strand displacement synthesis, a feature that may help its participation in in vivo NHEJ. Moreover, pol λ interacts with XRCC4-DNA ligase IV via its N-terminal BRCT domain and the interaction stimulates the DNA synthesis activity of pol λ. Taken together, these data strongly support that pol λ functions in DNA polymerization events during NHEJ.

Discrete Mitochondrial Aberrations in the Spinal Cord of Sporadic ALS Patients

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an adult onset neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration in the brain and spinal cord leading to muscle atrophy, paralysis, and death. Mitochondrial dysfunction is a major contributor to motor neuron degeneration associated with ALS progression. Mitochondrial abnormalities have been determined in spinal cords of animal disease models and ALS patients. However, molecular mechanisms leading to mitochondrial dysfunction in sporadic ALS (sALS) patients remain unclear. Also, segmental or regional variation in mitochondrial activity in the spinal cord has not been extensively examined in ALS. In our study, the activity of mitochondrial electron transport chain complex IV was examined in post-mortem gray and white matter of the cervical and lumbar spinal cords from male and female sALS patients and controls. Mitochondrial distribution and density in spinal cord motor neurons, lateral funiculus, and capillaries in gray and white matter were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Results showed that complex IV activity was significantly decreased only in gray matter in both cervical and lumbar spinal cords from ALS patients. In ALS cervical and lumbar spinal cords, significantly increased mitochondrial density and altered distribution were observed in motor neurons, lateral funiculus, and cervical white matter capillaries. Discrete decreased complex IV activity in addition to changes in mitochondria distribution and density determined in the spinal cord in sALS patients are novel findings. These explicit mitochondrial defects in the spinal cord may contribute to ALS pathogenesis and should be considered in development of therapeutic approaches for this disease.

Chemistry of Oxidomolybdenum(IV) and -(VI) Complexes with ONS Donor Ligands: Synthesis, Computational Evaluation and Oxo-Transfer

A series of dioxidomolybdenum(VI) complexes, [MoVIO2L1–6] (1–6) and [MoVIO2L1–6(solv)] (1a–6a) {where solv (solvent) = DMSO (1a, 3a, 5a and 6a) and H2O (2a and 4a)} have been synthesized using thiosemicarbazone ligands, H2L1–6. Furthermore, six monooxidomolybdenum(IV) complexes [MoIVOL1–6(N-N)] (7–12) {where co-ligand (N-N) = 2,2′-bipyridine (bipy) (7, 10 and 11) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) (8, 9 and 12)} have also been synthesized from the corresponding Mo(VI) precursors, [MoVIO2L1–6] (1–6) by oxygen atom transfer (OAT) reaction. Complexes have been characterized by conventional methods, including X-ray crystallography, and DFT (density functional theory) calculations. OAT reactivity of Mo(VI) and Mo(IV) complexes have been successfully established through the formation of OPPh3 and Me2S. These OAT products have been characterized by 31P NMR (OPPh3), UV–Vis spectroscopy and GC–MS (Me2S) and DFT simulations supported this finding through the prediction of ΔGtotsol for the reaction of oxygen atom transfer. DFT methods suggested that the oxygen atom transfer from [MoVIO2L] species to PPh3 to give [MoIVOL(bipy)] and from DMSO to [MoIVOL(bipy)] to yield [MoVIO2L] is strongly favored, whereas the formation of μ-oxido dimer [MoV2O3L2], is much less probable.

Electrical analysis of interface recombination of thin-film CIGS solar cells

In this master thesis, electrical characterization of thin film CuInxGa(1−x)Se2 solar cells produced by Midsummer AB were performed with the aim of determining the dominant recombination path of these cells. Current-Voltage (IV), Quantum Effinciency (QE), temperature dependent IV (IVT) and Drive-Level Capacitance Profiling (DLCP) was used with the objective to investigate the dominant recombination path as well as provide some insight of the solar cells in order to create a baseline model using the modelling software SCAPS (Solar cell CAPacitance Simulator). The IV produced mostly consistent results with slight variation, most likely due to non uniformity of equipment. The QE showed consistent results between all cells indicating a stable process for the sample preparation. Using IVT measurements were taken from a temperature of 115K −300K in order to obtain the activation energy for the dominant recombination path. By comparing it with the band gap energy from the QE measurement, it was found that the dominant recombination path is in either the space charge region or in the bulk of the CIGS and not at the hetero interface. DLCP measurement were made at both low temperature and at room temperature and revealed that the cells had a similar doping as other comparable cells at 7×1016cm−3 . The initial baseline model created in SCAPS show a good agreement with the measured IV and currently indicates a spike in the band alignment, supporting the results for the IVT measurement.

Current Clinical and Curricula experiences of Postgraduate Pediatric Dentistry Programs on non-IV conscious sedation in the United States

Purpose: The aims of this study were to: (1) evaluate the prevalence of compliance of Postgraduate Pediatric Dentistry Programs (PPDPs) in the United States with the current American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) sedation guidelines and Commission On Dental Accreditation (CODA) sedation curriculum requirements and identify barriers to and facilitators for implementation of such guidelines; (2) identify changes to-date in sedation practices of PPDP since the previously published AAPD sedation guidelines (2011); and (3) determine the independent association of compliance of PPDP with program setting. Methods: A 40-item questionnaire was emailed to all postgraduate pediatric dentistry program directors (PPDPDs) of CODA accredited programs in the U.S. (n=74). Bivariate analysis, chi-square, Monte Carlo simulation and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to analyze the data. Results: 70% of surveyed participants responded (n=52). On average, PPDPs were found to be compliant with both AAPD and CODA sedation standards. The bivariate analysis showed that both current setting of PPDPs and PPDPDs training setting did not affect the compliance of the program with the AAPD and the CODA sedation guidelines. Directors that stated receiving an “excellent sedation training” were more likely to be compliant with the CODA sedation standards (p=0.01). In this study, a major perceived barrier for increasing the number of non-IV conscious sedation cases per residents was a lack of patient pool (37%). When comparing changes in the sedation practice of PPDPs between 2009 and 2011, more sedation emergency drills were found to be performed in 2015 (p=0.05). Conclusion: Most PPDPs were compliant with both the AAPD and CODA sedation standards. Most PPDPDs were in favor of the 2013 increase number of sedation required by CODA. Both PPDPD training setting and PPDP setting did not affect the compliance of the programs with the AAPD sedation guidelines and the CODA sedation standards. PPDPs with PPDPDs who reported an excellent sedation training were more likely to be more compliant with the CODA sedation guidelines. Finally, PPDP setting did not affect the number of patients receiving non-IV conscious sedation or the number of sedation ER experienced per year.
