Robust Issue Tracking Application (RITA) : Developing an issue tracker using modern web technologies

Åhman, Stefan January 2017 (has links)
Issue tracking is one of the vital parts in maintaining computer  systems.  It is utilized in anything from small independent companies to large enterprises. The tracking does not just provide developers and other personnel with crucial information regarding their systems current state, but additionally stores useful documentation if any error reoccurs in the future. However, if the tracking issue would be deficient in some way, the complete process of developing or maintaining a system could affected negatively in great extent. This thesis work has looked into a scenario where the tool has been to slow, overly complicated and obsolete. It has made a large negative impact on the work force that uses the tool and made tracking issue to a discouragement. The thesis work has thence investigated features of the existing tool, suggested a better solution to use based upon these findings, followed by the development of a web application. When the application was finished, its usability was tested by the intended staff and performance tests were conducted. The test results showed that the application had been implemented successfully in many aspects. Unfortunately, due to deficient technical choices, the project did struggle with implementing all features as expected. The thesis work did consequently learn the hard way the importance of a choosing development techniques very thoroughly.

Využití MongoDB s Node.js / Application of MongoDB with Node.js

Hejtmánková, Kateřina January 2015 (has links)
The aim of my thesis is to provide a collection of examples about document oriented MongoDB database using Node.js platform, specifically using the Mongoose program, for object-document mapping (ODM). The aim is met by analysis of Mongoose and Async module, which provides functions for more comprehensive asynchronous querying, needed for working with input/output to the MongoDB database in Node.js. The main merit of this thesis is (in the general sense) a demonstration of how to create a administration part of web application (backend) in Node.js, applying document oriented MongoDB database. The thesis discusses, in the theoretical part, about characteristics and significance of document oriented MongoDB database, about characteristics and architecture of Node.js platform employing untyped and multiplatform JavaScript language and about object document mapping (ODM) programs for Node.js on MongoDB. The practical part contains a collection of examples, where in the first chapter introduces an instalation and execution manual of necessary programs. The next chapter is dedicated to simple examples of Mongoose module and in the last chapter there are stated the complex examples of Mongoose and Async modules, which are the main merits of this thesis.

Reminiscence Computer Therapy for People with Dementia / Vývoj asistenční aplikace pro lidi s demencí

Černý, Martin January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to implement a presentation layer for the Reminiscence Computer Therapy application. Reminiscence Therapy involves the discussion of the past memories and it is believed to help people with dementia to improve their well-being and sustain their memories. Computer Reminiscence Therapy involves technology in this therapy. The research introduces into Dementia and Reminiscence Therapy with and without using technologies. The application developed as part of this diploma thesis uses picture upload and speech recognition techniques for the memory input. This is used to support remembering of past memories and to increase discussion. The application can be used with or without the carer as well as with friends and family members. The six most important requirements on the developed application are the speech recognition, picture upload, asking questions about the previous recordings, asking questions about tagged friends, using old stories for discussion and presenting the statistics. The application was developed as a part of the competition made by AngelHack organization. Presentation, business and persistence layers of the application are discussed in this diploma thesis as well as user manual and persistence layer implementation of the requirements. The presentation layer was developed using React framework for JavaScript. Other libraries have to be used as well with the most important being Redux library for storing application state. This library affected the structure of the persistence layer.

WebAssembly for Web Developers

Lauri Boström, Olle January 2019 (has links)
One of the latest tools in the strive troughwards a fast and secure Web is called WebAssembly. It is a low-level, assembly-like language that can run in the browser alongside JavaScript. WebAssembly is designed to load fast and aims to execute at near-native speed. Being a compilation target for system languages like C, C++, and Rust, WebAssembly is not very accessible from a Web developer perspective. This project explores ways to generate WebAssembly directly from JavaScript code, in order to lower the learning curve, and allow for a more widespread adoption of WebAssembly. This has resulted in a utility tool called Esmbly, which can turn simple JavaScript programs into WebAssembly binaries by collecting and utilizing type information from various flavours of statically typed JavaScript.

Sleevecore

Wara, William January 2020 (has links)
The motivation for this work has been to develop a web platform for a game concept where the underlying code acts to enable users to customize their game markers and place orders for them. This report deals with the creation of this website that in itself is not a webstore in classical terms but rather offers a process of it’s own for users to pick the looks of a product, place it in a cart and pay for it. The website communicates with an external payment processor that has been implemented. The process also includes prepatory work and the handeling of graphics and both client and server-side coding. The report covers the programming of the website and speculates in its application of usability standards from evaluating of user tests.

Performance of Multi-threaded Web Applications using Web Workers in Client-side JavaScript

Djärv Karltorp, Johan, Skoglund, Eric January 2020 (has links)
Context - Software applications on the web are more commonly used nowadays than before. As a result of this, the performance needed to run the applications is increasing. One method to increase performance is writing multi-threaded code using Web Workers in JavaScript. Objectives - We will investigate how using Web Workers can increase responsiveness, raw computational power and decrease load time. Additionally, we will conduct a survey that targets software developers to find out their opinions about performance in web applications, multi-threading and more specifically Web Workers. Realization (Method) - We created three experiments that concentrate on the areas mentioned above. The experiments are hosted on a web server inside an isolated Docker container to eliminate external factors as much as possible. To complement the experiments we sent out a survey to collect information of developers' opinions about Web Workers. The criteria for the selection of developers were some JavaScript experience. The survey contained questions about their opinions on switching to a multi-threaded workflow on the web. Do they experience performance issues in today's web applications? Could Web Workers be useful in their projects? Results - Responsiveness shifted from freezing the website to perfect responsiveness when using Web Workers. Raw computational power increased at best 67% when using eight workers with tasks that took between 100 milliseconds and 15 seconds. Over 15 seconds, sixteen workers improved the computational power further with around 3% - 9% compared to eight workers. At best the completion time decreased with 74% in Firefox and 72% in Chrome. Using Web Workers to help with load time gave a big improvement but is somewhat restricted to specific use cases. Conclusions - Using Web Workers to increase responsiveness made an immense difference when moving tasks that is affecting the users responsiveness to background threads. Completion time for big computational tasks was quicker in use cases where you can split the workload to separate portions and use multiple threads in parallel to complete the tasks. Load time can be improved with Web Workers by completing some tasks after the page is done loading, instead of waiting for all tasks to complete and then load the page. The survey indicated that many have performance in mind and would consider writing code in a multi-threaded way. The knowledge about multi-threading and Web Workers was low. Although, most of the participants believe that Web Workers would be useful in their current and future projects, and are worth the effort to implement.
