This research aims to better understand how organizational communication texts contribute to the setting of a strategic discourse and a textual agency by focusing on the process of elaboration of an in-house journal. Our main topics of interest are the personal strategies of those who contribute to the preparation of the in-house journal, the reasons for their day-to-day involvement and the change it brings to the working practice. Our approach is structured around participant observation within the Communication department of Préventika. Based on the data collected for a period of two years, we conduct a mixed methods analysis (thematic and longitudinal) of eleven editions of the in-house journal since its creation. This research contributes to the textual agency approach developed by The Montréal School of Organizational Communication in which the in-house journal texts are seen as agents able to act on and to make act on the organization and its members.

"Uso de periódicos científicos eletrônicos por docentes e pós-graduandos do Instituto de Geociências da USP" / "Use of electronic scientific journals by professors and pupils from the course of graduation at the Instituto de Geociências at the USP."Oliveira, Erica Beatriz Pinto Moreschi de 08 November 2006 (has links)
In the past years, scientific communication has been through changes generated by information technologies and communication, specially Internet and its graphical interface, the Web. The scientific journal, as a main formal means of communication, has not been immune to those changes, expressed through its availability whithin the electronic field. In this context, this research analyzes the periodic acceptance and use of electronic scientific journals by professors and pupils from the course of graduation at the Instituto de Geociências at the University of São Paulo, and has as objective to identify the use, the perception of positive and negative points and the possibility of the library being a facilitator/intermediator of this process. 178 questionnaires had been sent, with 79,8% return rate (142 questionnaires). The results indicate that the professors and gradutation students have a routine of using the electronic journal in their activities of education and research, although printed culture is still strongly present. The biggest difficulty observed was in the identification and selection of the more adjusted informational resources, which to a series of possibilities for the role of the library, as much in the spreading of the resources as in the orientation of the users. It is considered that, although journals are used as routine, questions such as preservation and information filling, guarantee of access throughout the time, development of trustworthy interfaces and availability of retrospective collections need to be defined and to be decided for the acceptance of electronic scientific journal.

Number of Authors Predicts Influence on Evaluations of Journal SubmissionsLim, Likie Shawn January 2010 (has links)
180 students from the University of Canterbury were randomly assigned to reading and evaluating 4 counterbalanced abstracts under the cover story of a departmental journal submission procedure. This study tested whether the number of authors assigned to a journal submission is an influential factor on the acceptance rate of a submission regardless of the quality of the abstract. Also, it assessed whether the influence of a number of authors on the chance of acceptance interacts with the acceptance rate of the journal. In other words, the study investigated not only the extent to which number of authors influences acceptance regardless of quality, but how much of an influence this has for which kind of journals (in terms of the journal’s acceptance rate). The study also measured how much individual personality variables such as guilt-proneness and tendency to adhere to descriptive norms influences a reviewer’s willingness to accept a journal submission. Results found that number of authors had a significant effect on evaluation. Possible reasons and study limitations were discussed.

Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2004. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This project was undertaken in order to investigate the phenomenon of repositioning/rejuvenation
in the South African women magazine industry, rooi rose and SARIE in particular. These two
women magazines, already in a mature phase and seemingly showing very little difference in
identity, have been constantly competing with one another for many years.
One of the goals of the study is to determine whether the manner in which repositioning is applied
would be a sustainable solution and/or whether, considering the saturated market in SA, this
would be the sole solution. Hypothetically speaking, the recipe for success may be embedded in
new or innovative information and information to support the adopting process of the reader. The
Diffusion of Innovation theory is used as the theoretical platform.
A content analysis of rooi rose and SARIE for the period July 2002 to December 2003 has been
conducted and applied to seven categories. The data has been scientifically analysed using the
Student’s t-test. It emerged from the quantitative study that no correlation could be found between
innovative content and content supporting the adopting process, and the fluctuation of the ABC
figures during that time period. By no means is this an indication that innovative content does not
play an important role in the editorial mix, only that SARIE’s better performance since its
repositioning should be attributed to other factors.
The two magazines are almost similar in terms of positioning, content and target market. For this
reason, the role that publicity plays at the launch of each monthly issue should not be
underestimated. The Afrikaans women magazine market shows meagre growth that points
publishers into other directions such as the expats market, for future growth and survival.
Finally, the general interest women magazine should seriously consider her own role in providing
innovative information for her reader in order to counter the strong upcoming niche magazine
market, which seems to have taken over this very important function of providing innovative
information and content supporting the adoption process.
In the meantime, change as the only constant means that repositioning or rejuvenation is a given
factor in the game of survival.
oorlewing.
