Loggbok i matematikundervisningen : Elevers perspektiv på skrivande i matematik / Journals in mathematics education : Students' perspective on writing in mathematicsJohansson, Emil January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to illustrate how using journal writing in mathemathics education acts as a tool to support the learning of students. The questions asked to investigate if the purpose was met were: - In what way do students use journals as a tool to reflect over their own learning? - In what way do students use journals as a tool to reflect over their effort in class? During six weeks, eighth grade students from two different classes wrote journals after each mathematics lesson. In the journals they wrote about what they learnt during class and about their effort. After the six weeks nine students were interviewed. The students describe how the journal writing helped them think metacognitively about what they learnt and how they worked during class. In addition, they have had a better direct contact with their teacher who has read the students’ entries and the response given was seen as positive for learning.

La présence du français en Arabie : les revues culturelles saoudiennes / The presence of French in Saudi : saudi cultural magazinesAlmalki, Ali 09 February 2015 (has links)
This thesis is about the francophone reality in Saudi Arabia. It starts by reviewing the relationship between the two countries from the French campaign in Egypt and Syria until today. These relationships were enriched by the stories of French travelers. The influence of historical facts on the Francophone reality and on the teaching of French is thus highlighted, as well as the representation of France and its language in the writings of the Kingdom and in Saudi opinion. Furthermore, this research details the specifics of the Saudi cultural environment ranging from censorship to the literary elite as well as the struggle for modernity. This first approach demonstrates that the presence of the French language in the Kingdom was largely due to political events. Following this, we focus on Saudi cultural journals. Five of these journals were chosen for their spatial and temporal coverage: al-Manhal, Qãfilat al-zayt, al-Maǧalla al-ʿarabiyya, Qawāfil and Nawāfiḏ. Al-Manhal and al-Maǧalla al-ʿarabiyya were particularly open from their inception to French classical Literature, while Qãfilat al-Zayt focused more on English literature. Qawāfil and Nawāfiḏ, being more recent, published some contemporary texts. This thesis concludes with a critical analysis of the translation of two French texts published in Saudi journals: Lamartine’s poem Le Lac and Marguerite Yourcenar’s short story La fin de Marko Kraliévitch in which the influence of Saudi cultural specificities on the choices in how to translate the texts is analyzed.

How Can we Derive Consensus Among Various Rankings of Marketing Journals?Theußl, Stefan, Reutterer, Thomas, Hornik, Kurt 15 October 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The identification of high quality journals often serves as a basis for the assessment of research contributions. In this context rankings have become an increasingly popular vehicle to decide upon incentives for researchers, promotions, tenure or even library budgets. These rankings are typically based on the judgments of peers or domain experts or scientometric methods (e.g., citation frequencies, acceptance rates). Depending on which (combination) of these ranking approaches is followed, the outcome leads to more or less diverging results. This paper addresses the issue on how to construct suitable aggregate (subsets) of these rankings. We present an optimization based consensus ranking approach and apply the proposed
method to a subset of marketing-related journals from the Harzing Journal Quality List. Our results show that even though journals are not uniformly ranked it is possible to derive a consensus ranking with considerably high agreement among the individual rankings. In addition,
we explore regional differences in consensus rankings. / Series: Research Report Series / Department of Statistics and Mathematics

Shaping This Space Between Us: using a reflexive journaling process to explore the complex and malleable space in which identity existsMaHusain, Lina 04 December 2013 (has links)
While some parts of identity remain constant throughout one’s life, many aspects of a person’s identity are subject to rapid and constant change and negotiation. Using theories regarding the role possessions play in the construction, reinforcement, and manifestation of a person’s identity, this thesis project explores the potential to facilitate meaningful insights and awareness into one’s own identity. This will be achieved by designing a reflexive journaling process. A qualitative evaluation of this prototype journal process used by a pilot group of young creative individuals will generate an assessment of the proposed process

Avaliação da qualidade de vida do portador de hemofilia e implementação do diário de infusão / Assessment of the quality of life of hemophilia patients and implementation of the infusion diaryPoncio, Thiara Guimarães Heleno de Oliveira 08 May 2018 (has links)
Patients with hemophilia are predisposed to bleeding, both post-traumatic as spontaneous, occurring mainly in the joints (hemarthrosis) and, when recurrent, they may contribute to the establishment of hemophilic arthropathy, which makes the disease potentially disabling and painful, and considerably affects the quality of life (QoL) of patients with the disease. Evaluate the QoL of these patients gives us the subsidy to provide measures that aim to improve the assistance provided and the patients well-being. In this regard, through an important edition of the infusion journal it is possible to follow the care provided. The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of life of hemophilia patients followed by the HEMOMINAS Foundation clinic in Manhuaçu, using specific tools and implement the use of an Infusion Diary as a strategy to increase assistance. This is a descriptive quantitative study. For the evaluation of QoL, it was used the ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health) proposed by the WHO. The tools include: a sociodemographic questionnaire; Haem-A-Qol; Haemo-Qol; HAL, pedHAL; HJHS e FISH. 30 male patients with hemophilia joined the study, which represented 90.9% of the eligible sample. In patients older than 18 years (n = 24), the Haem-A-Qol average score was 53.39. In the HAL, the average was 67.26. In the HJHS, the average score was 37.33. In the FISH, the average score was 25.96. In patients under 18 (n = 06), the Haemo-Qol was answered by patients and their parents. In the questionnaire answered by the patient the average score was 50.36, and in the parents\' score was 55.16. In PedHAL, the average score of the patients was 88.59 and their parents 83.15. The average score in the HJHS was 5.67. Regarding FISH, all patients under 18 years of age (n = 06) reached a maximum score and performed all activities without assistance. The journal of infusion was built and implemented as a tool to enhance the assistance, aiming to stimulate the progressive improvement of the quality of life. The quality of life of patients followed was different, younger ones with better results. The reality of hemophilia management is challenging. It is necessary to reorient care, the focus should not be in the disease, it is necessary to look for the individual, who should be fully assisted in the holistic way.

Dos prazeres venéreos à diabólica moléstia:o general José Vieira Couto de Magalhães diante da sífilis no final do século XIX / From the venereal pleasures to the diabolical disease: General José Vieira Couto de Magalhães and syphilis at the end of the 19th centuryAlmeida, Maria Jose Saenz Surita de Pires 12 May 2016 (has links)
As an influential politician and a successful industrialist, and having written a number of books, General José Vieira Couto de Magalhães (1837-1998) was one of the few men of his time leaving a register with precious information about everyday life concerning medicine and body care aiming to the restoring of health. His personal notes correspond to two different moments of his life. Firstly, to the beginning of the 1880s, when he was affected by digestion problems. In this phase, Couto demonstrated more interest in self-medication based on the reading of medical compendiums. Afterwards, between 1887 and 1890, the General kept a notebook in which he wrote brief reference notes on the syphilis diagnosis he was given at home by two doctors. At this time he was 52 and used to be the president of the Province of São Paulo. Incurable and closely related to moral issues, syphilis was then associated with prostitution, being considered one of the causes of degeneration in offspring. At the third stage of the disease, the General was quite impaired and thus had appointments with the best physicians in Brazil as well as in France, where he travelled to twice during the treatment. In an attempt to understand the implications of such diagnosis for a man in a high social position, this study faces crucial issues for that time period. One of them concerns the usually difficult and much less prestigious life of medical doctors who were for a long time analyzed from a predominantly foucaultian perspective as having a disciplinary power over society. In order to work with Magalhãess life story and notes and above all with the silences inside his writings I try to compare the information in his journals with other from periodicals , theses and medical books from that historical period.
