O objetivo do presente trabalho é realizar uma leitura crítica pelo viés materialista dialético do romance Jubiabá (1935), de Jorge Amado, obra abarcada no projeto de romance proletário empreendido pelo autor na década de 1930. Este trabalho propõe-se a analisar elementos que contribuam para a compreensão da estrutura interna dessa obra, bem como para a compreensão de sua posição no conjunto das ambições literárias e políticas de Amado no período. Interessa-me investigar as relações entre a forma literária de Jubiabá e os processos sociais referidos na obra, sobretudo no que diz respeito aos ideais da esquerda em relação às alterações históricas da organização do trabalho no Brasil, procurando observar por quais caminhos esse dado material é mimetizado na estrutura interna do romance. Acerca dessa estrutura interna, enredo, configuração do protagonista e perfil do narrador serão os elementos privilegiados pela análise, tanto individualmente quanto nas relações entre si. O ponto de chegada deste trabalho encontra-se na interpretação voltada para a dinâmica que se estabelece entre a obra e a tradição formativa social brasileira em suas especificidades enquanto nação periférica ao processo capitalista mundial, em suas aproximações simbólicas e materiais, literárias e extraliterárias, em relação ao centro do mundo civilizado ocidental. / This work aims to perform a critical reading of Jorge Amado’s novel Jubiabá (1935), a work which is part of the project of the proletarian novel undertaken, by the author in the 1930s. We seek an analytical description of the elements that may contribute to the understanding of the internal structure of the work, as well as its position in Amado's literary and political ambitions in them. Thus, we are interested in investigating the relationship between the literary form of Jubiabá and the social processes which the work refers to, especially with regard to the left-wing ideas in relation to the historical changes in the organization of labor in Brazil, seeking to understand how the aesthetic aspect of the novel clarifies the author’s position. With the aesthetic aspect in mind, we paid particular attention to the construction of the plot, the composition of the leading character, and the narrator’s profile in relation to the whole of the work's structure, as well as in relation to one another. This paper concludes with an interpretation of the dynamics established between the work and the Brazilian social formative tradition in its specificities as a nation on the periphery of world capitalism, in its symbolic, material, literary, and extra-literary proximities to the center of the civilized Western world.

We aim also as the author involved with throbbing political issues of that historic moment, he highlights in his literary production, sympathy by the communist party and the engagement in the class struggle, to bring the scene fictional tensions and latent conflict in bahian society the first decades of the 20TH Century. We are concerned with in perceiving the lineaments in relation to the universe of Candomblé and the positioning of the work in relation to the class struggle. It is a question of looking at how this writer moves the events of the universe of Candomblé and of the work recorded in his memory - most of the times by participant observation - for the pages of his novels. It was as analysis, an entire system of beliefs of the candomblé baiano, inside of a broader historical frame, of conflict between labor and capital / Nesta dissertação de mestrado fazemos uso do romance Jubiabá (1935) de Jorge Amado (1912-2001) enquanto possibilidade de documentação empírica ao historiador interessado em certos aspectos da cultura brasileira, sobretudo no que diz respeito às religiões afro-brasileiras. Objetivamos também como o autor, envolvido com questões políticas pulsantes daquele momento histórico, evidencia em sua produção literária, simpatia pelo Partido Comunista e o engajamento na luta de classes, ao trazer à cena ficcional tensões e conflitos latentes na sociedade baiana das primeiras décadas do século XX. Ocupamo-nos em perceber os lineamentos em relação ao universo do Candomblé e o posicionamento da obra em relação à luta de classes. Trata-se de analisarmos como este escritor desloca os acontecimentos do universo do Candomblé e do mundo do trabalho registrados em sua memória na maioria das vezes pela observação participante para as páginas de seus romances. Foi como desvelamos todo um sistema de crenças do Candomblé baiano, dentro de uma trama histórica mais ampla, de conflito entre força de trabalho e capital

Esses elementos são analisados segundo os estudos de teóricos, como Bakhtin, Benjamin, Antônio Cândido, Miécio Táti, entre outros. Da análise evidenciou-se a construção da obra em seus traços épicos e romancescos que a tornam expressão literária dentro do regionalismo brasileiro dos anos trinta do século XX. A narrativa de Jubiabá é composta de contos e lendas que fazem parte do imaginário do povo nordestino, além das histórias de marinheiros viajantes que levam uma vida de constantes perigos. Essas histórias educam a personagem Balduíno durante toda a primeira e segunda parte do romance. Os traços romanescos seguem paralelos aos traços épicos, sendo mais intensos na segunda e terceira parte do romance. Abordamos, também, os elementos tempo, espaço e personagem dentro do mesmo enfoque, que fazem do romance uma singular obra literária. / This text is about the novel named Jubiabá by Jorge Amado in its structural elements: characters, time and space. These elements are analysed according to Bakhtin, Benjamin, Antonio Candido, Miércio Táti among others. The construction of the novel was evidenced in its epic and romanesque features which make it a literary expression within Brazilian regionalism of the 30s from the 20th century. The narrative is composed by short stories which integrates the imaginary thinking of the nordestinosas well as by the stories of sailors who have a life with constant risks. These stories educate the protagonist Balduíno during the first and second part of the novel. The romanesque features follow in parallel with the epic ones and become more intense in the second and in the third parts of the novel.
