EU - Karibik: špecifiká úrovní vzájomných vzťahov / EU – Caribbean: special levels of their mutual relationsZaujecová, Ľubomíra January 2010 (has links)
The objective of the thesis is to analyse mutual relations between the European Union and the Caribbean region, especially to study and subsequently evaluate the various levels in which these relations take place. The first chapter deals with the mutual relations of the EU and the Caribbean as a part of the ACP group of states, which represented the beginnings of their collaboration. In addition to the characteristics of the group as a whole and their common features, it addresses also specific features of different regions while trying to distinguish the Caribbean from the other two. Its main part is a legal institutional form of their relations as well as its practical form. The second chapter is the level at which the EU cooperates with the various groupings of the Caribbean. It discusses the legal institutional framework ensuring their relations, trade and development cooperation. The last, third chapter is devoted to the national level and explains how the ongoing humanitarian assistance and implementation of development programmes works thanks to participation of both, the local authorities of the Caribbean countries and the European Union.

TROPICKÝ PAVILON PRO BRNĚNSKOU ZOO / TROPICAL PAVILION FOR THE ZOO BRNOKolibačová, Alžběta January 2019 (has links)
The thesis deals with the design of the architectural study of the Caribbean pavilion in Brno Zoo. The building will be located in the area of Mniší hora on the site of today's greenhouse pavilion from the 1960s which is ending its life expectancy I designed a comprehensive pavilion presenting the tropics ecosystem, fauna and flora from the Caribbean, Central America and Amazon. The building also includes a restaurant, a view point and a sanitary facility. The study also deals with the urban design of the entire section of Caribbean in the Brno Zoo and the design of exterior furniture. The designed solution creates space for animal breeding in harmony with current zoological trends like being as close as possible to their natural environment in which man and animal are equal. It also offers other zoo features such as visitor education, a meeting place, rest and relaxation.

Velké matky: ženská síla ve vybraných románech Toni Morrisonové. / Great Mothers: Female Empowerment in Selected Novels by Toni MorrisonIoannou, Eleni January 2013 (has links)
81 Abstract This thesis argues that motherhood as depicted in Toni Morrison's novels Song of Solomon, Beloved and A Mercy is a site of female empowerment. Its emancipating potential is set against the context of slavery and patriarchy found in the narratives and shows how mothers are able to resist oppressive structures and secure their children's well-being. Slavery practices severed family ties and caused its dismemberment by separating parents from their children. In the novels under study the recovery of those ties happens in an imaginative re-writing of history. Mother figures, such as Beloved's Sethe, come to terms with the re-embodiment of a painful familial past and deal with its traumatizing effects to be able to renounce it and move on. Others like Song of Solomon's Pilate cling to their past and act as mediators between the community's history and its descendants. A re-writing of history is urgent for African American writers and peoples who share slavery pasts, and who thus need to deal with their lasting legacies in the present. Motherhood is thus identified in several recurring patterns. Toni Morrison describes physical aspects of mothering from the point of view of the mother and uses the female body as a life-giving source that cancels the objectification of female slave bodies....

Large Eddy Simulation Studies of Island Effects in the Caribbean Trade Wind RegionJähn, Michael 04 April 2016 (has links) (PDF)
In dieser Dissertation wird das kompressible, nicht-hydrostatische und dreidimensionale Modell
All Scale Atmospheric Model (ASAM) für Grobstruktur- bzw.
Strukturen mittels angeschnittener Zellen (engl. cut cells).
In this thesis, the fully compressible, three-dimensional,
nonhydrostatic atmospheric model called All Scale Atmospheric Model
(ASAM) is utilized for large eddy simulations (LES)
to investigate local island effects at the Caribbean.
Since the model has not been applied to LES for moist boundary layers
and heterogeneous surfaces so far, several parts are added to the model code
or reworked. A special focus lies on the inclusion of orographical structures
via the cut cell method. Spatial and temporal discretization as well as
necessary physical parameterizations are summarized in a thorough model description.
The robustness of the model formulation is confirmed by a set of idealized
test case simulations.
Large eddy simulations are performed for the area of the Caribbean island Barbados to investigate
island effects on boundary layer modification, cloud generation and vertical mixing of aerosols.
Due to the presence of a topographically structured island surface in the domain center,
the model setup has to be designed with open lateral boundaries.
In order to generate inflow turbulence consistent with the upstream marine boundary layer forcing,
the newly developed cell perturbation method based on finite amplitude perturbations is applied.
Observations from the SALTRACE field campaign are used to initialize the model runs.
Several numerical sensitivity tests are carried out
to demonstrate the problems related to \"gray zone modeling\" beyond LES scales
or when the turbulent marine boundary layer flow
is replaced by laminar winds. Especially cloud properties west of Barbados (downwind)
are markedly affected in these simulations.
Results of an additional simulation with a strong trade-wind inversion
reveal its effect on cloud layer depth and height.
The modification of Saharan dust layers reaching Barbados via
long-range transport over the North Atlantic is analyzed.
Effects of layer thinning, subsidence and turbulent downward transport
near the layer bottom become apparent.
The position of these layers and strength of downward mixing is found
to be mainly controlled atmospheric stability, inversion strength and wind shear.
Comparisons of LES model output with wind lidar data show similarities in the
formation of the daytime convective plume and the vertical wind structure.

Cruise industry - analýza, postavenie a potenciál lodných zájazdov v oblasti cestovného ruchu / Cruise industry - analysis, role and potential of cruises in the tourism industryKocún, Jozef January 2010 (has links)
This final thesis deals with cruises and cruise line industry in general. The first chapter describes cruises and highlights their particulars. The second chapter analyzes all the available statistics (secondary data) that depict the role of cruise line industry in the field of tourism (fleet, cruise lines, passengers, destinations, ports, economic impact). As for the primary research, I created a questionnaire to determine the requirements of respondents for an ideal cruise. I have conducted a mystery shopping, together with a personal interview with an employee of an travel agent's to analyze the state of the market and the sale of cruises both in Czech and Slovak Republic. The last chapter discusses the current and future trends in the cruise industry. The results of this thesis confirm the hypothesis that Czech Republic and Slovakia have the potential to attract customers and bring potential customers.

The economics of organized crime: evidence on FDI attraction in Latin America and Caribbean / Ekonomika organizovaného zločinu: Přímé zahraniční investice v Latinské Americe a KaribikuTošovský, Štěpán January 2016 (has links)
This paper attempts to investigate the degree to which organized crime affects FDI in 15 Latin America and Caribbean countries during 2006-2014 period. We employed four crime proxies: homicide rate, organized crime index, business cost of terrorism index and business cost of crime index and analyzed their impact on overall, sectoral and industrial FDI inflows. We find evidence of a deterrent effect of organized crime on FDI inflows; in particular on FDI in secondary and tertiary sectors. On the contrary FDI inflows in more extractive industries - primary sector - are less affected by the presence of organized crime

Špecifiká ekonomík Karibiku v kontexte Ekonomických partnerských dohôd a vzťahy s EU / Specifics of the Caribbean economies in the context of Economic Partnership Agreements and the relations with the EUTotkovičová, Lucia January 2011 (has links)
Diploma thesis deals with the relations between the European Union and the Caribbean, principally with agreements forming their legal and institutional framework. It is theoretically based on the official rules of international trade agreed by the members of the World Trade Organization and on the Articles GATT and GATS. The first part gives information about the Caribbean region, its position in the world economy and about regional intergration, which is the corner-stone of Caribbean's external relations. The second chapter comprises analysis of the specifics of Caribbean countries that form their interests in the international field. Relations with the European Union, agreements that deal with them and specific treatment of developing countries are the subjects of chapter three. The thesis focuses on the Economic Partnership Agreement between the EU and CARIFORUM. Emphasis is on the basic provisions of this agreement on trade, compliance with WTO rules, impact on the Caribbean economies as well as the criticism and evaluation of its benefits. Attention is given to the development aspect of EPA. Last but not least, the thesis refers to the future cooperation under the provisions of this regional agreement.
