A redução/desnasalização de ditongos nasais átonos finais e a marcação explícita de CVP6

Chaves, Raquel Gomes January 2017 (has links)
Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Linguística, Florianópolis, 2017. / Made available in DSpace on 2018-01-16T03:23:24Z (GMT). / Abstract : In this thesis, the correlation between two shifting phenomena in Brazilian Portuguese (BP) in spoken data from the non-urban community in Costa da Lagoa (Florianópolis Santa Catarina, Brazil) is addressed. The first phenomenon concerns the reduction/denasalization of final unstressed nasal diphthongs RED/DES (from the Portuguese redução/desnasalização) as in the examples: ordem ~ ordi ( order ); órgão ~ órgu ( organ ); podem ~ podi ( can , third person plural), falam ~ falu ( speak , third person plural). The second phenomenon addressed is explicit marking of verbal agreement for the third person plural CVP6 (from the Portuguese concordância verbal), as in: eles pedem~ eles pedi ( they ask ), eles falam~ eles falu( they speak ). Starting from the theoretical and methodological background of Language Variation and Change Theory (WLH, 1968; LABOV, 1972, 1994, 2001, 2010), and also supported by Experimental Phonetics, the main objective is to discuss how these two phenomena are embedded in the linguistic and social concomitants matrix of the community under study. The results of the analyses indicate: (i) the intrinsic relation between both phenomena in a subgroup of third person plural verb forms, referred by Guy (1981, 1996) as ambiguous data , in which it is not possible, from the output form, to identify when a certain phenomenon or other has made itself manifest; (ii) significant changes in results related to CVP6 explicit marking when the ambiguous data were excluded from the variationist analyses; (iii) the correlation between both phenomena and the level of schooling of the subjects informants with more schooling present smaller rates of RED/DES and higher rates of CVP6 explicit marking, an opposing trend to the one seen in the informants with less schooling; (iv) moderate negative correlation between the RED/DES and CVP6 explicit marking phenomena, as evidentiated by Guy (1981, 1996) in spoken carioca data subjects that apply more a phenomenon tend to apply the other one less. Moreover, with basis on the acoustic study performed, the need to rethink the phonic salience hierarchy proposed by Naro (1981) is highlighted. Finally, this work suggests that the RED/DES phenomenon is a changing phenomenon in the community of the study (apparent time change), differently from the CVP6 explicit marking phenomenon, which would be in stable variation.

Made available in DSpace on 2015-02-05T20:43:41Z (GMT). The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the prosody of non-exhaustivesentences in Brazilian Portuguese (BP) to determine whether prosody isenough to mark this kind of focus or if other factors, like lexical order, grammar or syntax, are needed. Sentences with exhaustive focus andcontrastive focus were also analyzed for comparing and investigating theexistence of a specific prosody of non-exhaustive focus. This work is dividedinto theoretical review, presentation of the pilot study, description ofmethodology, description of production and perception experiments, analysisof results and conclusions. Through experiments, it was identified theintonation of non-exhaustivity, where one of the factors that characterized itis the height of pitch range, with about 4 semitones higher than in sentenceswith contrastive focus. Furthermore, it was found that the marking ofcontrastive and exhaustive foci only by prosody seems to be insufficient;informants reported a need for lexical support for marking these two types offocus. Moreover, the obtained data seem to support that the possibility ofmarking focus can occur in two ways in BP: by prosody, keeping theconstituents in their canonical positions, or through syntax, moving theconstituents within sentences.

This study aims to analyze how and what knowledge about the language are mobilized and how they relate in the constitution of the syllabuses of Letters course aimed at Portuguese language teachers‟ training. The study was based on theoretical and methodological perspective of Brazilian-French Discourse Analysis in dialogue with the Linguistic Ideas History. The archive was the Educational Project of the course of graduation in Portuguese and Spanish Languages - from the Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul, from which the discursive-documental corpus of research was constituted, consisting of a set of discursive snippets made of discursive sequences highlighted of the curriculum components‟ syllabuses for the field of Portuguese language - specifically the nominations and menus of the required curriculum components - emerging discourse about the place of knowledge about the language in the constitution of the course. We also mobilize the historicity of the constitution of higher education, the courses of Letters and the teaching of the Portuguese language in Brazil, to understand the functioning of the discursive and institutional memory that resonate in the constitution of the institutional discourses of the present time. Through the analysis of regularities of linguistic-discursive marks, we found that knowledge of the structure-language and event-language circulate and complement each other in the syllabuses of the Course, besides relating through institutional and discursive memory, with knowledge, discourses and lines of teaching the Portuguese language put into circulation in other times and places.

This study, which has been inserted in the Discourse Analysis of French Line, aims to investigate the language representations which resound on the official discourse, representing the discourse of the State through official documents, such as ordinances, laws, notices, etc.. It is based on the Regulation of the „Programa Institucional de Bolsas de Iniciação à Docência‟ (PIBID), as well as the projects and subprojects of the Language Study area of the Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul, that aims to promote the initiation to teaching, contributing to graduation of teachers and the improvement of the brazilian basic public education. The corpus was constituted based on file discursive sketches, according to the regularities concerning the language that allowed the research problem to be answered: which language representations emerge from official discourse materialized on documents of PIBID? Thus, a historic-conceptual path of the question was traced as long as the “interpretation gesture” was also traced, articulating the theoretical and analytical device. The analysis was based on three regularities, highlighted according to differentiated aspects concerning the language representations on this Program, considering its stricto sensu articulation (school x university) and lato sensu (State x language x society), getting to know: Theoretical orientation, a dispersion of the senses; The integral formation – looking for the subject completeness; The “new” as a rupture – an “improvement” wish. The language representations that emerge from the official discourse resound on the Program working, as it guides and determines the practice of Scholarship users on the school context. On the analyzed corpus different language representations emerged, however not excluding, which set up a filiation of senses regarding the standard language, taken as the State language, as well as senses linked to the language as a system, adopted by the Generative Grammar that understands language as a human innate capability. Nevertheless, it is understood that there is a recurrence to the language as an interaction source for the Textual Linguistic perspectives, Bakhtin dialogic and Discourse Analysis discursive, taken as a social approach, extrapolating the immanence of the system and bringing the social-historic context as constitutive. It was also observed that there is a tendency to homogenization of the senses about language, from the moment that it is recognized the standard language as (and the only) official variety of the nation. There is no retrenchment about the theoretical perspective to the LP teaching unless it is developed as the formal rules instructions, the State language, the standard language. Thus, the corpus discursive working comprehension of this study allows understanding the way the official discourse intends to constitute these scholarship users under graduation, future teachers, other people‟s formers, as well as understanding and making the language conception work.

Relativas livres e interrogativas encaixadas no português brasileiro

This work is dedicated to the study of Brazilian Portuguese (PB) embedded sentences: free relatives and indirect questions, through the scope of generative studies, like Ross (1967), Chomsky (1977), Bresnan and Grimshaw (1978) among others. The motivation for this research is, beside personal interest, the finding that these sentences may have the same linearity, as in João comeu [RL o que Maria cozinhou] e João perguntou [IE o que Maria cozinhou]. In addition, as highlighted in Caponigro (2003), Móia (1992) and Prestes (2012), there is no consensus on the status of embedded sentences introduced by verbs: ver (to see), ignorer (to ignore), esquecer-se (to forget), lembrar-se (to remind), saber (to know), reveler (to reveal), descobrir (to discover), perceber (to seem), notar (to note) and ouvir (to hear). According to these authors, these verbs are ambiguous because both select free relative and indirect interrogative, as in the embedded sentence: João sabe/viu/revelou [RL/IE o que Maria cozinhou, which constitutes a problem for generative theory. In this way, through this study we aim to: a) establish the proprieties of free relatives and indirect questions; b) compare syntactically and semantically the two types of embedded sentences, besides to apply available tests in literature to identify free relatives and/or indirect questions; c) observe the behavior of embedded sentences selected by verbs considered ambiguous (cited above) and apply them in the same tests which identify the type of embedded; d) identify a possible solution to the problem in the differentiation of free relatives and indirect questions. With this study, we encounter, among other aspects that the verbs which are considered ambiguous pass in the biggest part of the tests (which identify free relatives and indirect questions). So, like a temporary solution, not free of problems, we will follow the studies of Suñer (1991 and 1993), Matos and Brito (2013) and Nye (2013) and we affirm that the embedded sentences are, in fact, resolutive sentences, in the term of NYE, 2013) or improper indirect question sentences (in terms of MATOS;BRITO, 2013). These sentences do not present feature [+interrogative] (like a real interrogative); have declarative nature and are selected by ambiguous verbs here analyzed.

In this research, we aimed to comprehend the discursive functioning of international events of Portuguese Language, organized and promoted by International Institute of Portuguese Language, from the textualization available in the events' web site. We analyzed according to theoretical-methodological perspective of Discourse Analysis based on the work of Michel Pêcheux and Eni Orlandi, articulated to Linguistic History of Ideas. The questions that guided this work were: (i) what is the linguistic politics that constitute senses about Portuguese language? (ii) what sense affiliations do the events conform the relation between unit and diversity of Portuguese in the events analyzed? In order do developed our interpretation gesture, we constructed an archive with the textualization of the cutouts from seven scientific events' web site held between 2010 (date of the first event) and 2013. We concluded that the events are conformed by senses constituted by the function of globalization and the Lusofonia imaginaries. Senses produced by these imaginaries constitute a politic of unit, homogeneity, university of language and of the States of Community of Countries of Portuguese Language (CPLP). Portuguese language is meant as united, equal in all countries of CPLP, having as reference the colonizer language, silencing the linguistic decolonization senses. These imaginaries, however, do not constitute without equivocal, contradictions, resistance produced by linguistic diversity, by the politic function that destabilize the unit senses.

All languages have some way to express verbal denial, but each one has its own strategies for their achievement. In light of Variationist Sociolinguistics and based on the sample PortVix (Portuguese spoken in the City of Vitoria), which has as social parameters gender/sex of the speaker, their age and their level of education, this study examines the variation in the use of structures of denial in Portuguese spoken in the city of Vitoria/ES, in order to place, from this phenomenon, capixaba variety in Brazilian Portuguese. This study is also based upon the proposal of Schwenter (2005) that the three variants alternate only when denied content is activated in speech. Thus, if the proposition denied conveys a status of new information, just preverbal negation can be employed. Thereby, in our research, we seek to understand what factors influence the alternation of forms of denial and verify the linguistic-discursive contexts that bring this variation. When we compared our results with those of other studies, we found that double denial is quite productive in capixaba speech, representing 21.1 % of a total of 2263 data. When performing rounds in which two variants were amalgamated and opposed to one another, were selected by the program Goldvarb X (SANKOFF, TAGLIAMONTE and SMITH, 2005) and, therefore, considered statistically relevant to the double denial the following variables: the dialogical sequences, the absence of negative reinforcement, the absence of conversational markers and complete sentences. For postverbal negation, the following variables were selected: denied propositions directly activated and dialogical sequences. For pre-verbal negation, the statistically significant factors were: narrative and argumentative sequences, the presence of negative reinforcement, the presence of conversational markers, main clauses and male gender. The results revealed that the variation in the use of negative structures is essentially a discursive phenomenon, but this variation is also influenced by some syntactic factors.

_____________________________________________________________________________________ / ABSTRACT: This paper has been oriented to sociopragmatics analysis on the usage of “tu” and você” present in the letters written by João Pinheiro da Silva at the end of the XIX century and beginning of the XX, from the relations established between the sender and his recipients. To systematize the type of relation (symmetry and asymmetrical descendant) it had been used the theories from Brown and Gilman (1960) about the semantics of power and commiseration. It had also been taken into account the Politeness Theory from Brown and Levinson (1987) in a way to enable the analysis of the uses “tu” and “você” in terms of face threat attack, uttered from João Pinheiro. In summary, this thesis converges to results obtained from other studies done in the period covered from epistolary production of João Pinheiro: the high productivity of the pronoun “tu” at the end of the XIX century and beginning of the XX century besides the hybrid behavior of “você” that either was shown quality from the destiny category, or the prim traces inherited from the nominal approach in which it had been originated from.

Sentenças exclamativas em português brasileiro

Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Linguística, Florianópolis, 2016. / Made available in DSpace on 2017-01-10T03:14:42Z (GMT). As SCLs cujo predicado tem a presença de um intensificador, ?muito+adjetivo? e DP, são mais reconhecidas do que as SCLs cujo predicado é composto por apenas um adjetivo.<br> / Abstract : This dissertation is part of the grammar interfaces field and it has as its object of study the exclamative clauses in Brazilian Portuguese (BP), more specifically, the wh-exclamatives with wh 'que', 'como' and 'quanto' and free small clauses (FSCs). The aim of this research is to answer some questions, including: (i) Are the wh-exclamative and the FSCs an exclamative clause type or an illocutionary type?; (ii) Are there different types of wh-exclamative elements present in these kind of clause?; (iii) Is there more than one intonation pattern for wh-exclamatives in BP, depending on the wh-element present on them?; (iv) Is there more than one intonation behaviour for FSCs in BP, depending on composition of the predicate of these clauses?; (v) Is the intonation behaviour of the wh-exclamatives with 'que' (as Que inteligente esse menino! ) similar to FSCs whose predicate is composed by an adjective (as 'Inteligente esse menino!')?; (vi) Can the speakers/listeners of BP, residents from Florianópolis (SC), recognize the difference between the intonation behaviour of an exclamative clause and the intonation behaviour of an interrogative clause produced by a BP speaker, variety from Florianópolis, even if these sentences are out of their contexts of production? To achieve our goals, we discussed some theoretical issues related to the semantic-pragmatic, syntactic and prosodic characteristics of these types of clauses, and applied some intuitive tests, which allowed us to answer questions (i) and (ii). Moreover, in order to investigate the intonation behaviour of these clauses, and also to answer questions (iii), (iv) and (v), we carried out a speech production experiment whose data were analyzed quantitatively. For the fundamental frequency analysis, measured in Hertz and semitones in four target points of the clauses of our corpus, we used the MOMEL/INTSINT for PRAAT script. We also applied two perception experiments with filtered speech stimuli (i.e. only with tonal information), aiming to answer question (vi). According to the theoretical framework assumed in this dissertation, based on Zanuttini and Portner (2003), the results revealed that the wh-exclamative clauses is an exclamative clause type, and that the FSC is an illocutionary type only, since the FSCs do not present, unlike wh-exclamative, a wh operator-variable and a factive operator. Furthermore, in Brazilian Portuguese, as in other Romance Languages, there are two different types of wh-exclamatives in BP, one that occurs only in exclamative clauses, associated with the wh-elements como and que+AP , E-only type, and another one that occurs both in exclamative and in interrogative clauses. This last one is associated with the wh-element quanto and que+NP , the non-E-only type. As regards the intonation behaviour, the results of the speech production experiment showed that there are three different behaviours for the wh-exclamatives in BP. The first one for como , another one for que and a third one for quanto . Likewise, we found that there are three different intonation behaviours for the FSCs, one for the FSC with muito+adjective predicate, another one for DP predicate, and a third one adjective-only predicate. In addition, we conclude that the intonation behaviour of wh-exclamative with 'que' is different from FSCs whose predicate is composed by an adjective. The results of the perception experiment revealed that BP speakers/listeners, residents from Florianópolis (SC), recognize the difference between the intonation pattern of an exclamative clause and of an interrogative clause produced by a Brazilian speaker from Florianópolis, even though if these clauses are out of their production contexts. As it was expected, the interrogative clauses presented a percentage of expected responses greater than the wh-exclamatives and FSCs, since the wh-interrogative clauses, in opposition to the exclamative, exhibited only one intonation pattern. In addition, the E-only wh-exclamatives, with como and que+AP , are more recognized as exclamative than non-E-only wh-exclamatives. The FSCs, which predicate is composed of muito+adjective and DP are more recognized as exclamatives than the FSCs whose predicate is composed of only the adjective.
