Funtional composition and applications / Composição final e aplicações

Martins, Mayler Gama Alvarenga January 2012 (has links)
This work presents functional composition (FC) as a new paradigm for combinational logic synthesis. FC is a bottom-up approach to synthesize Boolean functions, being able to evaluate the cost of intermediate sub-functions, exploring a larger number of different candidate combinations. These are interesting advantages when compared to the top-down behavior of functional decomposition. FC presents great flexibility to implement algorithms with optimal or suboptimal results for different applications. The proposed strategy presents good results for the synthesis of Boolean functions targeting different technologies. FC is based on the following principles: (1) the representation of logic functions is done by a bonded pair of functional and structural representations; (2) the algorithm starts from a set of initial functions; (3) simpler functions are associated to create more complex ones; (4) there is a partial order, enabling dynamic programming; (5) a set of allowed functions can be used in order to reduce execution time/memory consumption. This work presents functional composition algorithms for Boolean factoring, including optimal factoring, Boolean factoring considering the exclusive-OR operator, minimum decision chain computation and synthesis of functions considering only majority and inverter logic gates.

O estado de exceção em Giorgio Agamben: contribuições ao estudo da relação direito e poder / Giorgio Agambens state of exception: contributions to the analysis of the law and power relationship.

Guilherme de Andrade Campos Abdalla 15 June 2010 (has links)
The complex philosophy of Giorgio Agamben summons us to review the crisis of the existing political-juridical models and the on-going governmental security rationale, which, based on a pre-oriented administration of fear, aims at eliminating those somehow non-adapted, as well as to join a defence towards a new political ontology beyond the tradition of sovereignty and law. Through the confront of semantically distinct definitions of life and its relation with the sovereign power, including under a biopolitical normalizing society, emerges the protagonist of Agamben`s work, the bare life. A life that is not a modern phenomena but the original activity of the sovereign power, that is, a life exposed to death that can be found either in the pólis or the civitas - in the form of homo sacer or in the modern totalitarianism as well as the democracy that we live in. A life that is permanently subject to death and, founded on an inclusive exclusion relation, that is, a relation of abandonment, exposes the real social bound. The state of exception links life and law, violence and norm. The law is applied through its own withdrawal: the force-oflaw exercised in the state of exception does not posit nor conserve the law, but conserves it through its suspension and posits it through the exception. A place where factum and ius are brought into conjunction and homines sacri are freely produced, a space where traditional political categories such as right and left, public and private, loses clearness and intelligibility. A zone of indistinction materialized in the camp, either of refugees or concentration camps or those in full force and effect and yet unnamed. The camp is the contemporary political paradigm and this is the era in which the exception becomes the rule. The way out to deactivate such relation is to profane, a political task in search for a new form-of-life that abolishes any remembrance of theological sovereign politics and law and that reflects a coming community able to turn inoperative the biopolitical machine producer of bare life: a new community that thinks beyond sovereignty, the sovereign band and the law itself. A community composed of singularities, with no identity nor properties or destinies, but pure potentiality. A community free of means in search for an end, but solely a community of pure means without ends.

Estimativas dos efeitos dos determinantes do aleitamento materno em inquéritos na América Latina e Caribe / Estimates of the effects of determinants of breastfeeding on surveys in Latin America and the Caribbean

Fernanda Alves Pereira 14 September 2018 (has links)
Métodos-Foram utilizados microdados coletados no projeto Monitoring and Evaluation to Assess and Use Results Demographic and Health Survey. / Introduction-Breastfeeding promotes benefits for the child, woman and society. However, breastfeeding rates, especially exclusive breastfeeding, are below desired levels in many countries. The identification of the determinants of the interruption precociated and the quantification of interaction factors are crucial to establish, evaluate and promote public policies in breastfeeding practices. Objective-Estimate the effects of factors associated with the prevalence of exclusive, predominant and continued breastfeeding in the first and second years of life in Latin American and Caribbean countries from 2000 to 2016.Methods- We used microdata collected in the project Monitoring and Evaluation to Assess and Use Results Demographic and Health Survey. In addition to the information, aggregated World Bank data was collected. The indicators analyzed were exclusive breastfeeding (EB), predominant breastfeeding (PB) and continuous breastfeeding (CB) in the first and second years of life; the values were expressed in prevalence and stratified by quintiles of wealth. The last available survey of each Latin American and Caribbean country with data between the years 2000 and 2016 was selected. The variables were selected according to availability and framing in the conceptual model proposed by ROLLINS et. al. (2016). The model used in the study was chosen after analysis with Poisson Regression and later, multi-level mixed-effects logistic analysis was performed to quantify the effect of each determinant of the fixed effect adjusted by the random effect. Results- The prevalence of indicators ranged from 7.4% to 60.3% EB, 13.9% to 71% in PB, 35.0% to 86.6% in CB in the first year, and 18.9% to 55.0% in CB in the second year of life. Bolivia and Guatemala stand out for having the highest rates of EB, 60.3% and 54.2%, respectively. The countries presented a higher prevalence of indicators in the lower quintiles of income, especially the associations of the pattern of increase of the magnitude of the negative effect as the fifth of income increases. EB and PB were directly associated with \"first-time breastfeeding\", \"marital status\" and \"wanted the last child; \"maternal age\" and \"work status\" were inversely associated with the CB indicators in the 1st and 2nd years of life. In the mixed effects analysis, the EB and PB indicators were directly associated with \"first-hour breastfeeding\" and \"marital status\" and inversely to the variables \"place of birth\" and \"work status\".The maternal schooling presented an inverse association with the PB, CB indicators in the 1st and 2nd years of life, and the fifth of the wealth had an inverse association with all the indicators studied. The EB shows greater variance explained by the individual level, while the CB in the second year of life suffers great influence at the contextual level (8.99e-15% and 69.7%, respectively). Conclusion- The variables related to the individual were the ones that best explained the variance of the model for EB, PB and CB in the 1st year of life. The variables related to the context explain a greater variability of the prevalence of CB in the second year of life, showing the greater interference of GDP and national influences.

The concurrent jurisdiction of the Labour Court and the High Court

Wagener, Pieter Cornelius January 2002 (has links)
An overview is given of the difficulties surrounding the concurrent jurisdiction of the Labour Court and High Court The main categories of the jurisdictional dispute are identified and systemised. The main branches are those of statutory overlap and interpretation of statutes. Statutory overlap concerns matters remaining from the industrial court era, urgent applications, delict and law of contract. Statutory interpretation mainly involves the interpretation of provisions in the Bill of Rights of the Constitution. An overview of the principles of jurisdiction with respect to the different courts, as well as a brief historical review of the development of such jurisdiction is given. Particular attention is given to the role of fundamental rights in the Constitution. Broad principles are identified whereby the difficulties may be addressed.

Laghi Rey, A, Yaipen Ayca, A., Risco Denegri, R.V., Pereyra Elías, Reneé 24 November 2015 (has links)
Background: Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) has proven to be highly beneficial for children’s health. Identifying the associated factors with its cessation is useful in order to target specific groups for preventive interventions. Objective: To evaluate the associated factors with EBF cessation before six months of age in women with infants, living in a district in Lima. Methods: A cross-sectional analytic study was performed. It evaluated mothers with infants aged 6-24 months, in a periurban district in Lima, Peru, 2013. The study outcome was cessation in EBF before six months of age. Sociodemographic variables, factors related to gestation and delivery, and factors properly related to breastfeeding were assessed. Crude and adjusted prevalence ratios and their respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were calculated through simple and multiple Poisson regression. Results: From the 109 mothers included in the analysis, 85.3% were 18 years old or more and all of them had a monthly family income under 250 US dollars. Seventy percent of women interrupted EBF before six months of age. Statistically significant association was found between EBF cessation and being primiparous (PR: 1.54; 95%CI: 1.20-1.98), having problems with the nipples (PR: 1.58; 95%CI: 1.07-2.33) and the perception of infant’s persistent hunger with EBF (PR: 1.35; 95%CI: 1.01-1.79). Conclusion: EBF cessation frequency was high in the study sample. Primiparity, having problems with the nipples and the perception of infant’s persistent hunger with EBF were found as associated factors. Preventive strategies might specially focus in mothers with this characteristics.

Knowledge, attitude and practices of nursing staff regarding the baby friendly hospital initiative in non accredited obstetric units in cape town

Jacobs, Lynette Carmen January 2008 (has links)
Magister Public Health - MPH / Background: The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) is considered one of the most successful international efforts to protect, promote and support breastfeeding. The initiative has proven impact, increasing the likelihood of babies being exclusively breastfed for six months. Official designation as Baby Friendly requires careful assessment completed by a trained external team to confirm that the institution is truly carrying out all Ten Steps of successful breastfeeding and conforming to the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes (BMS).The implementation of these principles are however challenging for facilities as it requires "strategic planning, implementation and maintaining change" within the facilities. Aim: To assess the factors influencing the implementation of BFHI principles in non accredited MOU` s in the Metropole region of the Western Cape. / South Africa

Infant feeding practices, knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of mothers with 0-6 month’s babies attending baby friendly accredited health facility and non-baby friendly accredited health facilities in Blantyre, Malawi

Guta, Janet Naomi January 2009 (has links)
Magister Scientiae (Nutrition Management) - MSc(NM) / The Ministry of Health in Malawi promotes exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life and continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary feeding up to two years or beyond. This policy applies to all children unless there are medical indications. Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) is a strategy that contributes to the attainment of this policy. BFHI is a strategy to increase early and exclusive breast feeding rates among mothers. This study is a pilot to evaluate the success of the BFHI initiative in Malawi.Study design. A cross- sectional cohort study of women and their infants, 0-5 months, attending BFHI and non-BFHI accredited health facilities in Blantyre district of Malawi ] between the period from 28th April to 30th September, 2008 was conducted.Data Collection: An in-depth face-to-face interview using an open-ended structured questionnaire was conducted among 202 mothers of infants within the first week of birth.A convenient sample of 102 mothers was selected from prima gravida mothers at a semiurban BFHI accredited facility while the other 100 were from semi-urban non-BFHI accredited facilities. This sample was used for the descriptive component of the study. From the 202 mothers, 30 from the BFHI and 30 from the non-BFHI Accredited health facility(s) were selected randomly as the sample for the longitudinal cohort of the study at 3 and 5 months respectively.Analysis of results: Data was analyzed using SPSS for Windows. Frequencies were tallied for categorical variables and mean standard deviations were computed for continuous variables. Chi-square p-values with health facility type as classification were computed to determine the difference between BFHI and non-BFHI accredited health facility groups for all relevant variables. Results Exclusive breastfeeding rates differed significantly (p- value, 0.0000) within one week after birth (99% for the BFHI versus 68% for the non-BFHI facilities).Thirty percent of the mothers from the BFHI accredited health facility practiced exclusive breastfeeding up to 5 months as compared to none of the mothers in non-BFHI accredited health facilities. All 202 mothers had ever breast feed in both facilities throughout the 5 months study period.Mothers and mothers-in-law were the significant source of complementing breast milk before 6 months of age,[ 25% more influence of mothers and mothers in-law in the non-BFHI accredited facility when compared to BFHI accredited facility].Conclusion:The BFHI strategy has the potential to successfully influence mothers to adhere to global and national recommendations on optimal breastfeeding practices. Special efforts should be made to continue support of and provide information to new mothers during the first week after delivery and unto few months after birth as mothers seem to introduce complementary foods early and prior to the recommended period of 6 months.

The protection of real exclusive securities in the collective proceeding in French-OHADA comparative law.

Oyono, Marlène 21 September 2016 (has links)
A company, whatever it size, form or importance is never away from financial difficulties that could lead it to collective proceeding. This situation is not without any consequences on the company's players, especially, creditors, who are the main collaborators in the company's exercise. Thus, to protect themselves from the risk of insolvency of the debtor, they can try to get legitimate preferential consideration, called securities. But these one make a complicated ensemble in which we can find subgroups. In French law and OHADA law, there is, in fact, a variety of securities, as well personal securities as securities right. In general terms, it is allowed today, that, in the securities right group, those called "exclusives" - the one based on the retention or on the property of the good, subject of the guarantee - succeed to pull out in case a collective proceeding is opened. Resulting in an absolute protection of these securities. The exclusivity will allow them to avoid the rules following the opening of a collective proceeding. Besides, creditors armed with securities right will be able to break with some traditional regulation from collective discipline. Yet, the protection tied to these securities don't shielded them from the requirements of collectives proceedings. On the contrary, the validity of their protection is wildly subject to their being in these procedures, on one hand, and to the fulfillment of the goal of collective proceeding law, on the other hand. So, even though they are protected, the exclusive securities right are not above the collective procedure

No. of bitstreams: 1 Disserta??o.pdf: 1171570 bytes, checksum: b9d60d56611f65106bfe64f3ae580d37 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-03-31 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) during the first six months of life is essential to promote proper growth and development, and contribute to reducing child mortality. Socioeconomic, demographic, biological, behavioral, psychological among others, interfere with this practice. However, the measurement of some variables has been a challenge due to the subjectivity and limitations of self-report data, both prone to errors. The identification of similar characteristics patterns among nursing mothers and health professionals allows better understanding of the between interrelationship the various factors associated with breastfeeding, and the role of each individual in that process. To this end, theoretical models can be used by Latent Class Analysis (LCA); statistical technique that seeks to identify characteristics of individuals with similar patterns of behavior; and categorize them into their most likely class their responses. The objectives of this study were: a) identify behavior patterns towards EBF among nursing mothers and health professionals; b) evaluates the factors associated with EBF cessation within the first month of life, including variables that were not previously examined in the literature. This is a cohort study with cross-sectional analysis, which used LCA to design a model with four constructs (maternal emotional state, availability to breastfeeding, maternal attitude towards breastfeeding; and health professional?s attitude towards breastfeeding), each with two latent classes, from 15 indicators surveyed in a birth cohort composed 1.309 women interviewed in the first month after delivery. In addition, logistic regression analysis was also performed to investigate the association between EBF interruption at 1 month of life and the latent variables and other covariates. Four constructs were defined using LCA, three related to maternal characteristics: attitude, emotional state and availability to breastfeeding, and on attitude of health professionals on breastfeeding. The frequency of women with unfavorable emotional state was 36.5%; 14.7% had less availability to breastfeed; and 41.5% had a negative attitude towards breastfeeding; and 62.0% of health professionals had negative attitude towards breastfeeding. The classes unfavorable maternal emotional state (OR=1.62; IC95%: 1.28-2.05), unfavorable health professional?s attitude towards breastfeeding (OR=1.31; IC95%: 1.03-1.67) and negative maternal attitude to breastfeeding (OR=2.18; IC95%: 1.73-2.75) were associated with EBF interruption in the 1st month of life. Maternal education up to elementary school (OR=1.47; IC95%: 1.15-1.89) and family income less than one minimum wage (OR=1.41; IC95%: 1.10-1.81) also presented statistical significance for the denouement. The results for education and income were consistent with the literature. The LCA demonstrated behavior patterns of nursing mothers and health professionals on the EBF. The study found new factors associated with interruption of EBF at 1 month of life. Escolaridade materna at? ensino fundamental (OR=1,47; IC95%: 1,15-1,89) e renda familiar inferior a um sal?rio m?nimo (OR=1,41; IC95%: 1,10-1,81), tamb?m foram significativamente associados ao desfecho. O estudo encontrou novos fatores associados ? interrup??o do AME no primeiro m?s de vida.
