Development of a Compact Drive System for Total Artificial Heart / Utveckling av en kompakt drivenhet för ett totalt artificiellt hjärtaBakhtiari, Hossin January 2023 (has links)
Over eight decades of research into total artificial hearts (TAHs) has significantly contributed to saving end-stage heart failure patients. However, at the current stage of development TAHs have several limitations, one of them being their bulkiness. Hence this thesis, with the goal to evaluate the right pump of the TAH developed by Scandinavian Real Heart and propose a compact right drive system without consuming significantly more power than the initial system. In order to do this, the requirements for the right drive systems are evaluated and defined. These requirements are then used to develop a methodology, including a MatLab simulation, for examining and selecting motors for the drive unit of the TAH. Subsequently, the methodology and the simulation are used to identify and assess over 200 motors, as well as select 3 motors for real-world experimental analysis. The suggested motors and the initial motor are then tested in a mock circulatory loop to investigate the performance characteristics and power consumption of the motors. This is done to select the final motor for the right drive unit, as well as verify and validate the created simulation. Based on careful analysis of the mathematical models used in the simulation and presented experimental data, the simulation was accepted to be verified. However, the support for validation of the simulation was lacking, as conflicting outcome for some cases were observed between the simulation and experimental data. Furthermore, given the empirical evidence, a brushless dc motor for the right drive unit and its implementation was proposed. The proposed motor has 11% reduction in size, 20% reduction in power consumption and 34% reduction in weight compared to the initial motor. Therefore, a drive unit with the suggested motor can have a significant impact on the right pump, and potentially even the left pump. Furthermore, the utilisation of the developed simulation can ultimately result in efficient and cost-effective motor selection and provide valuable contribution to the field of drive system development for TAHs.

Simulační modely synchronního stroje pro výukové potřeby / PMSM models for educational purposesLidmila, Petr January 2016 (has links)
This master´s thesis deals with synchronous motor model creation in MATLAB – Simulink program, with purpose of usage in AC Drives class. Models are created for motor with permanent magnets and for motor with wound rotor. The models are designed to enable simulation with both different longitudinal and transverse inductance, thus with salient rotor and non-salient rotor. The models can also be powered directly from three-phase sinusoidal source or a simple vector control can be used for their acceleration. All models are aligned so that their parameters can be set in only one m-file. Furthermore, automatic generation of phasor diagrams for steady-state motor, which serves as an interactive tool in class, is also created.

Estudo de máquinas elétricas especiais: motor monofásico de pólos inscritos / not availableAmêndola, Cesar Augusto Moreira 29 August 2002 (has links)
This work deals with a theoretical study on Written-PoleTM single-phase motor. Initially, we present the results from the bibliographical research on the Written-PoleTM motor, evidencing its constructional features, operation process, operational characteristics and some possible applications. Afterwards, we elaborate a physical model based in the theories of the doubly fed induction motor and the hysteresis motor, which incorporates the operational characteristic of Written-PoleTM motor and reproduces the written-pole dynamic process. Starting from this physical model we propose a mathematical model, based on the theory of the magnetically coupled circuits, constituted by the set of differential equations deduced from the doubly fed induction motor, the hysteresis motor and the stator and rotor voltage sources. We deduced theoretically all the computational simulation necessary parameters. We perform its computational simulation in the software Matlab/SimulinkTM, whose results illustrate the dynamic behavior of its voltages, currents, fluxes, torques and speed. Comparing the results obtained from the computational simulation with the CEPEL\'s test results, we concluded that the proposed mathematical model and the deduced parameters can be considered validated. Finally, we suggest a permanent-magnet smooth-pole single-phase motor as an alternative to Written-PoleTM motor. This alternative, even being simpler from the constructional point-of-view, presents operational characteristics similar to the Written-PoleTM single-phase motor.

In order to achieve a commercial advantage, manufacturers have focused on improving the NVH performance of their products to cope with a competitive global market scenario. To verify the behavior of the system during the design process, computational methods are applied to find a better approach and foresee problems, saving company budget and time spent in prototypes and tests. In this work, gear rattle, a impact-induced noise caused by the unloaded gear teeth inside the gearbox, will be modeled and simulated. It is diagnosed with a higher intensity in diesel vehicle engines at idle speed and in a more specific way excited when a range of frequency that causes large amplitude of vibration in the internal elements of the gearbox is reached. Linear models of the powertrain operating in idle and traction will be studied, in order to understand its basic characteristics, such as natural frequencies and associated vibration modes that could be representative to this phenomena. This system has elements with strong nonlinearities such as the stratified stiffness with hysteresis of the clutch and the backlash between the gear teeth. A more realistic feature will be included in the model with a time variable stiffness for the helical gear mesh, used in all manual transmissions, with a suitable dissipative component for the impacts. To verify operational conditions which can only be evaluated with nonlinear formulation, simulations will be made to verify the effectiveness of solution guidelines and modification procedures found in literature / Mestrado / Mecanica dos Sólidos e Projeto Mecanico / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica

This diploma thesis deals with the possibility of using a concentrated winding in an induction motor and the use of copper bars in a rotor cage. The first part of the thesis explains the basic theoretical knowledge of the operation and principle of the induction machine. In this theoretical part we will learn what is actually a concentrated winding and how it is placed on the stator. The second part is focused on the analytical design of the machine with classical distributed winding and with concentrated winding. The third theoretical part is an introduction to the issue of influencing the motor harmonics. The last final part of the thesis shows differences in operational properties of designed machines.

Analýza a inovace elektrických motorků pro automobily / Automotive Electric Motors Analysis and InnovationVala, Tomáš January 2012 (has links)
Electric drives used in automotive industry are often based on standard DC motor as it is widely recognised as mature and reliable technology. The most common applications of DC motors in automotive industry are starters and wind screen wiper motors. Aim of this thesis is to provide design overview of typical automotive DC motor therefore main parts and features of the machine will be described in detail. Main disadvantage of DC motor is „sliding contact“ between commutator and carbon brushes which introduces source of electromagnetic disturbance and requires regular maintenance. Within this project different aspects of DC motor design and innovation are expected to be tackled including examples of loss calculation.
