K’asba’e T’oh: sustaining the intergenerational transmission of TāłtānMorris, Kāshā Julie Anne 01 September 2017 (has links)
The Tahltan language is endangered and at a critical juncture because there are now fewer than 30 fluent speakers. The Tahltan Nation is working to change this by creating many different opportunities for language learning, focusing on programming, documentation, and professional development and training. One way that our language is being revitalized is through immersion programs for young children. Using ‘Tahltan Voiceability’ as the overarching methodology, this study reports on the language nest model as an immersion method of Indigenous language revitalization in Tahltan communities in northern British Columbia. Parents, language mentors, and administrators shared their perspectives and experiences regarding the way in which K’asba’e T’oh (the Dease Lake Language Nest) began in Tātl’ah (Dease Lake), how things are progressing, and what motivated and continues to motivate people to be involved. Through an analysis of these conversations, I share esdahūhedech (their tellings) and report on emerging themes. With this immersion setting in place, there is hope that this program will create speakers, inspire others to learn our language, and be part of increasing the proficiency of language learners, thereby moving our language out of the endangered status. <b>A Case Study for a Language Nest in Limonese Creole</b>Margie Cubillo Araya (20313723) 10 January 2025 (has links)
<p dir="ltr">Limonese Creole is an endangered Creole language spoken in Costa Rica. During the last decade, researchers alongside the community have produced various studies on the language structure, as well as revitalization efforts such as an orthography, translations, workshops, presentations, and a bill to recognize Limonese Creole as a language in the Political Constitution of the country, among others. However, can a mere political recognition change the language reality and encourage people to use the language more? The answer is simple, no. Hence, this case study aims to propose a curriculum for a Limonese Creole Language Nest that will contribute as an instrument for empowering the community and revitalizing their language. The language nest model portrays an innovative, immersion-based approach to early childhood language education and revitalization (Chambers, 2015). In language nests, older members of the community provide care for children while they speak their language with them. The purpose is to expose children as much as possible to the language so they will acquire native fluency. The long-term projection of this study is to set the basis for a Limonese Creole Language Nest curriculum as an effective vehicle for revitalizing the language.</p> Read more

Les causes de l'affaiblissement du nasa yuwe étant multiples, les stratégies de revitalisation sont également variées. Le nid linguistique de Tóez Caloto est un exemple des nombreuses façons de revitaliser une langue. Ainsi qu'un exemple des facteurs qui influencent le transfert linguistique, résultant d'aspects personnels tels que les traumatismes liés à l'utilisation de la langue à la suite d'abus physiques et psychologiques, la discrimination linguistique, la migration, la nécessité d'intégrer le marché du travail et l'accès à l'éducation scolaire. Ensemble avec des facteurs communautaires, sociaux, économiques, environnementaux et politiques.
En ce sens, l'enseignement et l'apprentissage du nasa yuwe dans l'espace éducatif du nid linguistique de Tóez Caloto visent non seulement à enseigner la langue, mais aussi, à travers elle, à transmettre la culture nasa. En plus d’autres éléments liés à l'identité qui se construit dans l'imbrication de la vision du monde, de l'histoire, de l'organisation sociale, de la politique et de la vie communautaire. Éléments considérés comme des inséparables dans ce processus, qui vise à laisser derrière eux les sentiments de honte et d'humiliation vécus par les générations précédentes, en créant une relation de bonheur, d'amour et de fierté dans la langue, qui conduira également à la récupération de la valeur des langues indigènes au sein des communautés et des sociétés nationales. / As the causes of the weakening of Nasa Yuwe are multiple, the strategies for revitalization are also

In this sense, the teaching and learning of Nasa Yuwe in the educational space of the linguistic nest
of Tóez Caloto aims not only to teach the language, but also, through it, to transmit the Nasa culture.
In addition to other elements related to the identity that is built in the interweaving of the world
view, history, social organization, politics, and community life. Elements considered inseparable
in this process, which aims to leave behind the feelings of shame and humiliation experienced by
previous generations, creating a relationship of happiness, love, and pride in the language, which
will also lead to the recovery of the value of indigenous languages within communities and national
