A pesquisa foi realizada em periódicos como jornais, revistas e outras publicações locais, além de fotografias que retratam a vida e paisagem urbana da cidade, em diferentes momentos. A relação entre lazer e vida urbana é analisada em três perspectivas. Primeiro, considerando a manifestação do sagrado, do profano e do cívico a partir das festas realizadas na cidade. Segundo, tendo em vista os espaços público e privado e suas inter-relações. Por fim, lazer e vida urbana é abordado em face das transformações na cidade que caracterizam a passagem do predomínio do rural para o urbano. Nos primórdios da cidade, o lazer era ainda aquele relacionado ao modo de vida rural. Mas com o crescimento da cidade, formas de lazer típicas da sociedade urbana passaram a predominar. Essas novas formas de lazer integram o conjunto de valores e práticas sociais que dão sentido e significado à vida urbana. / This work aims to identify the leisure practices during the history of the city of Presidente Prudente (Brazil), linking them with the urban life development. The data was found in the newspapers and the magazines, rather then the photographs of different periods. The relationship between leisure and urban life is analysed in three approuch. Firstly it is considered manifestations of the sacred and profane and civic in the feast which take place in the city. Secondly it is considered public and private space and their inter-relationship. Finnally the leisure and urban life are survey in face of the city changes which are characterized by rural to urban predominating influence. The research demonstrates that at early times, the leisure was still related to rural way of life. But the leisure practices changed with the growth of the town and became closest to the urban way of life. / Mestre
