In this work a block parameter estimation method for linear periodically time-varying systems is discussed. The whole work consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is based on the description of the model, its creation and structure. Furthermore, Markov estimation or an estimation of the least squares generalized method and the description of the generalized model are described in this work. The practical part is devoted to carrying out of the experiments and their description. The experiments of modeling have been performed using MATLAB program. In addition, the functions matrica, period were created and used to do the estimations. The results of the experiments are illustrated in charts and diagrams. Finally, the conclusions about the efficiency of the block parameter estimation method are done.

Fairness Perceptions and Compliance Behaviour: Taxpayers' Judgments in Self-Assessment Environments

This cross cultural study compares the fairness perceptions of New Zealand and Malaysian individual taxpayers of their respective income tax systems, and investigates the consequences of those perceptions, together with other important variables, on their compliance behaviour. A theoretical framework was developed based on Equity Theory and the Theory of Planned Behaviour. The study’s hypotheses were tested using the responses to questionnaire surveys (which included two scenarios) and in-depth telephone interviews, which were conducted sequentially in both countries. Partial Least Squares and thematic analysis were used to analyse the surveys and interviews data, respectively. The results suggest that Malaysian taxpayers have significantly better perceptions of fairness of their income tax systems than their New Zealand counterparts, yet New Zealand taxpayers are more compliant. The most consistently important factor in explaining taxpayers’ compliance behaviour across the two countries is their attitude towards compliance, followed by subjective norms. Fairness perceptions, which are highly influenced by their tax knowledge and perceived complexity of the tax system, are also influential, particularly in the understating other incomes scenario. This cross-cultural study demonstrates that regardless of the differences between the two countries under study (in relation to economies, cultures and ethnicities), taxpayers generally respond in quite similar ways when it comes to meeting their tax obligations.

Tidigare studier visar att ökad handel spelar en tydlig roll för ett lands ekonomiska tillväxt. Genom att träda in på den globala marknaden öppnas många möjligheter för ökad handel och nya arbetstillfällen. Utrikeshandeln är betydelsefull för små öppna ekonomier som till exempel Kenya och bör utgöra en stor del av landets BNP. I och med detta är det viktigt att studera vilka faktorer som påverkar ett lands utrikeshandel. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka vilka faktorer som påverkar Kenyas export. Analysen visar att handelspartnernas BNP har en betydande påverkan på Kenyas export. Det geografiska avståndet har en negativ påverkan på Kenyas utrikeshandel. De regionala handelsavtalen har som förväntat en positiv påverkan på exporten.

Analysis of the Weight Function for Implicit Moving Least Squares Techniques

In this thesis, I analyze the weight functions used in moving least squares (MLS) methods to construct implicit surfaces that interpolate or approximate polygon soup. I found that one previous method that presented an analytic solution to the integrated moving least squares method has issues with degeneracies because they changed the weight functions to decrease too slowly. Inspired by their method, I derived a bound for the choice of weight function for implicit moving least squares (IMLS) methods to avoid these degeneracies in two-dimensions and in three-dimensions. Based on this bound, I give a theoretical proof of the correctness of the moving least squares interpolation and approximation scheme with weight function used in Shen et al. when used on closed polyhedrons. Further, previous IMLS implicit surface reconstruction algorithms that ll holes and gaps create surfaces with obvious bulges due to an intrinsic property of MLS. I propose a generalized IMLS method using a Gaussian distribution function to re-weight each polygon, making nearer polygons dominate and reducing the bulges on holes and gaps.

Integrated Approach to Assess Supply Chains: A Comparison to the Process Control at the Firm Level

This study considers whether or not optimizing process metrics and settings across a supply chain gives significantly different outcomes than consideration at a firm level. While, the importance of supply chain integration has been shown in areas such as inventory management, this study appears to be the first empirical test for optimizing process settings. A Partial Least Squares (PLS) procedure is used to determine the crucial components and indicators that make up each component in a supply chain system. PLS allows supply chain members to have a greater understanding of critical coordination components in a given supply chain. Results and implications give an indication of what performance is possible with supply chain optimization versus local optimization on simulated and manufacturing data. It was found that pursuing an integrated approach over a traditional independent approach provides an improvement of 2% to 49% in predictive power for the supply chain under study.

The ordinary least squares (OLS) is one of the most widely used methods for modelling the functional relationship between variables. However, this estimation procedure counts on some assumptions and the violation of these assumptions may lead to nonrobust estimates. In this study, the simple linear regression model is investigated for conditions in which the distribution of the error terms is Generalised Logistic. Some robust and nonparametric methods such as modified maximum likelihood (MML), least absolute deviations (LAD), Winsorized least squares, least trimmed squares (LTS), Theil and weighted Theil are compared via computer simulation. In order to evaluate the estimator performance, mean, variance, bias, mean square error (MSE) and relative mean square error (RMSE) are computed.

Random Matrix Theory Analysis of Fixed and Adaptive Linear Receivers

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) / This thesis considers transmission techniques for current and future wireless and mobile communications systems. Many of the results are quite general, however there is a particular focus on code-division multiple-access (CDMA) and multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. The thesis provides analytical techniques and results for finding key performance metrics such as signal-to-interference and noise power ratios (SINR) and capacity. This thesis considers a large-system analysis of a general linear matrix-vector communications channel, in order to determine the asymptotic performance of linear fixed and adaptive receivers. Unlike many previous large-system analyses, these results cannot be derived directly from results in the literature. This thesis considers a first-principles analytical approach. The technique unifies the analysis of both the minimum-mean-squared-error (MMSE) receiver and the adaptive least-squares (ALS) receiver, and also uses a common approach for both random i.i.d. and random orthogonal precoding. The approach is also used to derive the distribution of sums and products of free random matrices. Expressions for the asymptotic SINR of the MMSE receiver are derived, along with the transient and steady-state SINR of the ALS receiver, trained using either i.i.d. data sequences or orthogonal training sequences. The results are in terms of key system parameters, and allow for arbitrary distributions of the power of each of the data streams and the eigenvalues of the channel correlation matrix. In the case of the ALS receiver, we allow a diagonal loading constant and an arbitrary data windowing function. For i.i.d. training sequences and no diagonal loading, we give a fundamental relationship between the transient/steady-state SINR of the ALS and the MMSE receivers. We demonstrate that for a particular ratio of receive to transmit dimensions and window shape, all channels which have the same MMSE SINR have an identical transient ALS SINR response. We demonstrate several applications of the results, including an optimization of information throughput with respect to training sequence length in coded block transmission.
