Through the state commission of the Brazilian Legion of Assistance (LBA) was designed a whole policy that took the life of children as an object of definition and prescription, being articulated and legitimized by medical, legal and pedagogical knowledge that circulated at the time. This text analyzes the discourses through which the childhood was invented as an object of government and the infant body as the surface of a series of events and knowledges that aimed at caring, educating, sanitizing and disciplining, producing this body historically and culturally. Therefore, I analyze a series of texts and images present in the Bulletin of the LBA, a journal produced by this institution with the objective of giving visibility and repercussion to the policies developed in the state and in the country around childhood and maternity. Articulating it with other printed sources that circulated at the time, I construct the procedures of a genealogy of the practices of government of the childhood. The body is a historical invention and the infant body does not escape this, inasmuch as it has been historically constructed in relations of power and knowledge that fabricated it as the object of a government. Dialoging with Michel Foucault's theoretical-methodological formulations on genealogy and biopolitics and with Giorgio Agamben on bare life and the relations between state, population and life, I try to think about the technologies through which a policy on child life Emerged in Paraíba and Brazil in the period under review, creating the contours so that a power over life - and a certain way of thinking about the future of the child as the future of the nation - was historically possible. / Entre palavras e gestos, entre imagens e enunciados numéricos (como signos do controle demográfico) a infância foi historicamente analisada na Paraíba, entre as décadas de 1940 e 1950, como um problema político, mas de um modo diferente do que ocorreu em outros momentos históricos. Por meio da comissão estadual da Legião Brasileira de Assistência (LBA) foi desenhada toda uma política que tomou a vida infantil como objeto de definição e prescrição, sendo articulada e legitimada por saberes médicos, jurídicos e pedagógicos que circulavam na época. Este texto analisa os discursos por meio dos quais a infância foi inventada como objeto de governo e o corpo infantil como superfície de uma série de acontecimentos e saberes que visaram cuidar, educar, higienizar e disciplinar, produzindo esse corpo histórica e culturalmente. Para tanto, analiso uma série de textos e imagens presentes no Boletim da LBA, um periódico produzido por essa instituição com o objetivo de dar visibilidade e repercussão às políticas desenvolvidas no estado e no país em torno da infância e maternidade. Articulando-o com outras fontes impressas que circularam na época, construo os procedimentos de uma genealogia das práticas de governo da infância. O corpo é uma invenção histórica e o corpo infantil não escapa a isso, na medida em que foi urdido historicamente em relações de poder e saber que o fabricaram como objeto de um governo. Dialogando com as formulações teórico-metodológicas de Michel Foucault acerca da genealogia e da biopolítica e com Giorgio Agamben em torno da vida nua e as relações entre Estado, população e vida, procuro pensar sobre as tecnologias por meio das quais uma política sobre a vida infantil emergiu na Paraíba e no Brasil no período em análise, criando os contornos para que um poder sobre a vida – e uma determinada forma de pensar o futuro da criança como futuro da nação – fosse historicamente possível.
