Particle Size and Its Effect on Flotation Performance of a Well Liberated Zinc Ore

Juan Luis REYES-BAHENA Unknown Date (has links)
Mineral flotation is the most widely used separation process applied for the concentration of metals sulphide particles from finely ground ores. However, flotation is a process that often has many problems which can affect its efficiency, mainly due to: • Variability of the feed stream characteristics • Inability to measure important process variables, such as the mineral floatability • A lack of understanding of the effect of circuit configuration and the mineral behaviour through the circuit The aim of this thesis is to investigate these issues using a steady state model applied to industrial data. The plants examined in this thesis were the Pillara Concentrator in Western Australia and the Charcas Concentrator in Mexico. In both cases the zinc circuit was surveyed to provide data for evaluation of simulation methods. The main characteristic of these ores is that the minerals are well liberated, and thus, the properties of flotation models can be evaluated without the confounding effects of composite particles. In terms of model building, there are a number of papers in the literature that offer models of various aspects of the flotation process such as chemistry, hydrodynamics, process kinetics, characterisation of the mineral flotation properties, and phase effects. The current JKMRC model methodology was developed in order to put together some of these aspects for the cases where the chemical environment remains constant. With aid of relatively simple well liberated ores this thesis investigates the combined use of plant data and batch cell flotation results from the various plant streams, as a means of determining additional properties of the process streams in the plant. It is shown that additional useful information is available for the batch tests. It is both an advantage and a problem that different types of data are obtained from the batch cells and the continuous plant cells. The ability of the models to predict is limited by the staged addition of reagent that change, as might be expected, the flotation properties of the ore. It is found for constant reagents and froth recovery that the models are capable of predicting the performance of parts of the industrial flotation plant. A recommendation for further work on the effects of froth recovery and reagents is made.

A Foreshadowing of Women's Liberation as Seen in Selected Plays of Molière

Owen, Jacqueline 05 1900 (has links)
The problem with which this investigation is concerned is that of revealing certain liberated female traits that are to be found as early as the seventeenth century in certain plays of Moliere. A study of the major events in Moliere's life and of the social climate and salons of his time, together with a close analysis of the plays themselves, is necessary to understand this important aspect of his works. In essence, this study attempts to show how Moliere's women emerge as independent individuals who refuse the role society usually assigns them. Although these female characters are products of the seventeenth century, their actions and attitudes are used in this thesis to indicate a foreshadowing of the twentieth-century, liberated woman.

Os meia-cara: africanos livres em São Paulo no século XIX / The \"meia-cara\": liberated African people in São Paulo at 19th century

Bertin, Enidelce 13 December 2006 (has links)
This research aims the liberated Africans who had been under the State guard, serving on the province of São Paulo public institutions. The main subject of this research is the analysis of diverging relationship between liberated African and the State, realizing the different meanings of \"public tutorship\" for both parts. Aware of their singular condition, liberated African faced the public authorities as free individuals, which was clearly against their tutors practice. For public administrators, liberated African shouldn\'t be unaware of the slavery logic, and this is why all \"protection\" by means of tutorship was related to a perspective of slavery maintenance. Trying to investigate liberated African\'s daily opposition to tutorship, we could disclose strong links of brotherhood kept among them, as well as the preservation of a common historic experience memory, often sketched since the atlantic traverse. Therefore, our approach is focused on the comprehension of liberated Africans as historical individuals, deepened into slavery relationship and acting to oppose latent slavery. Because we suspected that their presence in the 1800\'s was more active and effective than pointed out by the public administrators speech, our challenge is on restoration of experience lived by them. By focusing that population so, we aim to get an analysis of their historical experience as workers under the tutorship of public institutions in São Paulo.

Summary Judgement at Dachau: Exploiting the Massacre of SS Guards by Allied Liberating Troops at Dachau

Unknown Date (has links)
This research analyzes how American soldiers reacted to the Dachau concentration camp, and offers statistics that counter the arguments made by Holocaust deniers and revisionists. It compares how the Soviets, British, and Americans conducted themselves as they freed other prisoners, and discusses why every camp liberation was dissimilar. Evidence gathered from the liberators who executed the SS disproves the argument that they were premediated killers and emphasizes how unique Dachau’s conditions were on the day of liberation, when compared to other concentration camps. It also directly refutes many arguments made by Holocaust deniers, and addresses their erroneous narratives, statistics, and conclusions regarding the Dachau liberation, and the Holocaust in general. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2019. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

BLACK MAMAS ON THE SCREEN: AFRICAN MATRIARCHY AND AFRICAN AMERICAN MOTHERHOOD IN SPIKE LEE JOINTS

Taylor, Michelle Benée 05 1900 (has links)
Though the portrayal of African American mothers in cinema has been diverse, it has too often misrepresented the lived experiences of mothers and has contributed to negative stereotypes about African American motherhood. Existing analyses have not provided an Afrocentric examination of these specific depictions and their broader societal impact. This dissertation aims to address this gap by investigating the representation of African American mothers in film. Grounded in Afrocentric research, scholarship, and theories, the project seeks to develop a framework centered on African Matriarchy and the experiences of African American mothers. This paper introduces the Taylor Test, a comprehensive rubric informed by the Afrocentric paradigm, film theories, and feminist and womanist theories. Through the application of the Taylor Test, a content analysis was conducted on select films by renowned African American filmmaker Spike Lee, including Crooklyn (1994), She Hate Me (2004), and Chi-Raq (2015). The findings of this research contribute to the development of an Afrocentric film analysis framework, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Taylor Test. Additionally, it offers insights into fostering a "liberated maternal" identity by leveraging media, particularly film, to reshape narratives surrounding African American motherhood. / Africology and African American Studies

« Entreprises libérées », parole libérée ? Lectures critiques de la participation comme projet managérial émancipateur / « liberated companies », liberated speech ? critical readings of participation as an emancipatory managerial project

Picard, Hélène 03 December 2015 (has links)
This research tackles the issue of a reappropriation of emancipatory themes in contemporary management. The thesis is focused on two cases of so-called « liberated » companies, which are supposed to illustrate the economic and humanistic successes that result from opening up discussion of working and organizing issues (« liberating speech ») and from breaking from authoritarian and hierarchical relations (« liberating structures »). The thesis questions the effects of such dispositives and practices of organizational members, at the individual and collective levels. In doing so, the thesis draws from two distinct theoretical frames: the communicational theory of Jürgen Habermas; and the organizational psychoanalysis, specifically in reference to the thought of Jacques Lacan. The thesis contributes to the existing debates over employee participation, in contemporary contexts in which a « post-authoritarian » turn in more clearly affirmed. We put forward some prerequisites to sustaining open speech that makes room for the subject, as rational actor as well as « divided » subject whose inconscious desire should be respected. The thesis also falls in with Critical Management Studies, as we explore the darker sides of emancipatory ideologies in contemporary management.

Continuous speech recognition : an analysis of its effect on listening comprehension, listening strategies and notetaking : a thesis presented in part fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctorate in Education, Massey University

McIvor, Tom January 2006 (has links)
This thesis presents an investigation into the effect of Liberated Learning Technology (LLP) on academic listening comprehension, notetaking and listening strategies in an English as a foreign language context (L2). Two studies are reported: an exploratory study and subsequent main study. The exploratory study was undertaken to determine L2 and native speaker (L1) students' perceptions on the effectiveness of the technology on academic listening and notetaking. The main study took a more focused approach and as a result, extended the exploratory study that was done in an authentic lecture context in order to gather data to measure listening comprehension and notetaking quality. The participants in the main study comprised six L2 students: five of whom intended to go to university. The methodology was a multimethod one: data was gathered from notetaking samples, protocol analysis, email responses and a questionnaire. Results indicated that continuous speech recognition (CSR) has the potential to support the listening comprehension and notetaking abilities of L2 students as well as facilitate metacognitive listening strategy use and enhance affective factors in academic listening. However, it is important to note that as CSR is an innovative technology, it first needs to meet a number of challenges before its full potential can be realized. Consequently, recommendations for future research and potential innovative uses for the technology are discussed. This thesis contributes to L2 academic listening and notetaking measurement in two areas: 1. the measurement of LLP-supported notetaking; and, 2. the measurement of LLP-supported academic listening comprehension.

In this study I investigate black family life in the context of the slave-based society of Bahia, Brazil in the second half of the 19th century. My research particularly examines how social, economic and political changes in the final decades of slavery influenced family relations among blacks, whose legal statuses often differed within the same kin group. I argue that in order to best understand this experience, we must consider it within a distinctly emancipationist set of conditions ¿ including the gradual abolitionist policies constructed and controlled by the State, as well as the self-directed actions toward the liberation of family members by enslaved, free and freed black people. Given these particular historical circumstances, interactions developed among individuals of different legal statuses linked to each other through family ties, affective relationships and broader community connections. This study contributes to understanding a remarkable Afro-Brazilian history of individuals and families in complex and uncommon situations, many of which are reflected in stories told in this work. The study is based on extensive investigation in archival and historiographic sources, by means of which I was able to illuminate important scholarly questions related to 19th century black family life and the daily experience of slavery. A combination of qualitative and demographic sources facilitated an exploration of the meanings that blacks conferred on their own personal and collective experiences as members of family groupings / Doutorado / Historia Social da Cultura / Doutor em História
