No. of bitstreams: 1 ValkiriaAiresViegas.pdf: 8922033 bytes, checksum: 379eb5178100f51a32bb17c3542c5ef6 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-06-25 / Brazil possesses a wealth of natural resources, however part of the population, even living near these resources, has a low quality of life. This same context can be perceived in Maranhão. The state has diverse vegetation composed of the Amazon Forest, savanna, mata dos cocais (coconut wooded region), swamps and the second largest coast in the country with immense marine biodiversity. However, the state of Maranhão has the municipalities with the lowest Municipal Human Development Index (MHDI). In this context, the dissertation directs the perspective to Sustainable Design seeking to understand which Project strategies can stimulate the valorization of local resources and the form in which such strategies can be understood and applied to lead product development, services and sustainable communication in a Maranhense context. The hypothesis of this research is that Design possesses tools and the capacity to stimulate and increase local activities, and from this point, improve people’s quality of life. The research was carried out in three stages: Theoretical Foundation composed of bibliographical and documental research; Intensive Direct Observation which combined simple and contextual observation with structured and semistructured interviews; and finally, Qualitative Analysis of data obtained in these stages using the babaçu coconut productive chain in the Itapecuru Mirim micro-region in Maranhão as demarcation. As a result of this study, relations were establishe between Design management levels, the main obstacles in the babaçu cocnut productive chain and sustainable design strategies that favor the valorization and promotion of local resources in Maranhão.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Roberta Motta de Oliveira Silva.pdf: 4716767 bytes, checksum: 6f34f75542671777edea9997cd69fff4 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-06-10 / The relevant increase in the number of select companies in the garment industry and related activities with the Secretary of the State of Pernambuco in the county of Riacho das Almas, shows the share of the relevant municipality in APL clothing in Pernambuco state. This activity is already established and ingrained in the cities of Caruaru, Santa Cruz do Capibaribe and Toritama. This research aims to review developments and to characterize the production of the garment industry in the county of Riacho das Almas - which is slightly less than 20 km from the city of Caruaru, one of the three major cities of the Garments 'Pole' of the Agreste of Pernambuco, and 162 km from Recife, capital of the state - by examining the consequences of growth and development of this activity, especially in the rural area. Within the perspective of this research is a survey and analysis of the installation of these companies in the Rural Zone, and the consequent transfer of the labor force for rural local garment industry, without the necessary qualifications or expertise, in addition to examining the high rate of informal enterprises and hiding their employees. Another aspect of this research is to identify measures and projects which the government is taking to support the growth and structure of this branch of activity, including providing environmental preservation, since many of these companies are based in the rural municipality.

Οικονομικά θέματα ανάπτυξης του αγροτικού τουρισμού σε μειονεκτικές περιοχές / Economic issues of rural tourism development in lagging regions

Πέτρου, Αναστασία 25 June 2007 (has links)
The demand for rural tourism is analysed using a proper economic and econometric model. Public Market Trade Areas: Local Goods, Farmers, and Community in the U.S. Southwest Region, 1996-2016

Oppenheim, Vicki Ann 05 1900 (has links)
The number of public markets in the United States increased from more than 300 in the 1970s to more than 8,600 by 2016. This increase in markets is related to changes in food production, localism and the local food systems movement, socioeconomic changes, cultural changes, and perceptions of embeddedness. Research on the underlying conditions for the success of public markets is scant in the United States, and especially in the USDA Southwest Region. This study provides analysis of public market locations as compared with non-market locations by drive-time trade areas during a 20-year period, 1996 and 2016, to gain further insights into factors leading to their success. The results from logit regression analyses and simulations of socioeconomic, college-town status, and climate-grid classifications find an increased likelihood of public markets with population, education, college town status, and some climate-grid locations. Median income, surprisingly, has an inverse relationship with public market success. Qualitative data and a literature review point to three types of embeddedness that motivate customers to attend public markets. This study concludes that "local nontradable consumer goods" tied to place are offered at these "nontradable consumption amenities." These amenities are "third places" that promote social interaction and become important places of community, farmer support, and commerce across the Southwest Region.
