Like life : data, process, change 1967-1976

Geha, Katie 03 October 2012 (has links)
This dissertation examines the work of artists Vija Celmins, Beryl Korot, and Lee Lozano. I illustrate how these underrepresented artists, working from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s, used new technologies to develop the relationships between media and what I call the ordinary--elements of daily experience that form more of a chronicle than a narrative. In an effort to move away from the emotionalism of abstract expressionism and the rigidity of formalist painting, these artists experimented with photography, drawing, performance, and video art. New approaches to various media allowed artists to use facts, evidence, and data as an artistic refiguration of the experience of life. In Chapter 1, I study the early work of Vija Celmins to argue that her paintings and drawings engage data, a type of information that is verifiable and understandable in and of itself. Celmins depicts images through a translation of media, from the photograph to the carefully mapped out graphite drawing. Instead of producing meaning through narrative, Celmins engages the facts of our ordinary world by provoking the act of looking. In Chapter 2, I discuss the video installation Dachau 1974 by Beryl Korot. This multichannel video presents a concentration camp as an everyday tourist site, devoid of emotion. By reading Dachau 1974 alongside cybernetic theories by writers such as Norbert Weiner and Marshall McLuhan and by discussing the media of video at its earliest incarnation, I contend that this work approaches information directly as process. It is in the accumulation of imagery through the twenty-two minutes of the video that the viewer is able to discern the structure of the work and experience history in time. In Chapter 3, I examine the journals and art-life pieces of Lee Lozano. I argue that once data (Celmins) and processing (Korot) occur in information systems, so too does change. Lozano harnesses change in the embodiment of her life as work and in the creation of her constantly shifting identity as an artist. In my conclusion, I contend that while information may work within the realm of the everyday, ordinary life, its very existence allows for illumination. That is, the facts of the world rendered through information processing can be another artistic experience. / text

It was the purpose of our research to explain facts about Fabiano Lozano (1886-1965) as a Conductor, lnstrumentalist and Pedagogue who was always praised by his disciples and by professionals of different areas with whom he had contact. Furthermore, we collected data about Vocal Pedagogy, which is a very difficult art, and Lozano's procedures as to this subject. We studied his vast musical bibliography and, through interviews with former students, articles and several other texts, we carne to the conclusion that Fabiano Lozano was the first great vocal pedagogue in Brazil, based upon the extension and quality of his works. This dissertation presents the city of Piracicaba, located in the interior of the state of São Paulo, as Lozano' s working place in the first decade of the 20th century. His work for. the benefits of music, choros singing and musical teaching are the basis for this research as well as the data related to the Orfeão Piracicabano, a vocal group created and conducted by him, which was very successful in his time. Thus, the purpose of this dissertation is to recover facts about the Conductor Fabiano Lozano and his contribution to the development of the Vocal Pedagogy in Brazil / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes

Fajardo Chumpitaz, Yovana, Lozano Achuy, Miosoty 05 December 2013 (has links)
The objective of the current research is to describe reading levels of children with hearing impairment, from 3rd grade of elementary school and from 8 to 11 years old, who have been rehabilitated by auditory – oral method. The research design is cross – sectional descriptive study. The sample technique used was intentional, non probabilistic sampling. The characterization process started choosing the school specialized in children with hearing impairment, named CEBE “Fernando Wiese Eslava”, taking the inclusion and exclusion criteria into consideration. Describe the reading levels of third grade children, year in which they graduate to be included in regular schools, was sought. Then, the collection of data was taken using the adapted version of the PROLEC-R Evaluation of Processes of Reading. The objective was to identify the reading learning difficulties and the cognitive processes responsible of them. The results showed the reading level of the selected sample. Subsequently, the data analysis was carried out the performance of the sample was properly interpreting. The sample end the statistical analysis of the results have been defined and classified according to the major indexes and the established categories. The results showed that the evaluated group had the highest percentage in the process of word identification and lexical processes which demonstrate reading and speed. The children of this study presented difficulty in the grammatical structure comprehension at the syntactic process. In the semantic process, there is a remarkable lack of comprehension in sentences as well as oral and text comprehension. / Tesis

Schweizer, Federico Rodolfo, 1970- 18 June 2012 (has links)
This work analyzes Cristobal Lozano's (1609-2667) novel: Soledades de la Vida y Desengaños del Mundo (1658) as a representative work of the author's moralizing ideology related to the Counter Reformation. Lozano was one of the most popular writers in Spain during the second part of the seventeenth century. Today, this writer is almost forgotten and finding the majority of his works is becoming difficult. Part of this dissertation, addresses this issue by locating a large section of his literary work, something that has not been done since the beginning of the twentieth century. Another important aspect of this investigation is that it locates the author in the literary map in relation to other outstanding writers such as Cervantes, Calderon de la Barca and other important previous authors. This research also demonstrates, through the literary analysis, some of the most important aspects of the Barroque period as well as the mentality of many of those who lived during that time period in Spain. This literary analysis attempts to show the reader that Lozano was indeed a writer who knew his craft, one who knew what the Spanish Golden Age audience wanted at the same time he pushed his own ideological religious agenda. / text

Romero Oliva, Silvana Elizabeth 13 September 2021 (has links)

Félix, Valérie 06 1900 (has links)
The interactive action with the digital is daily. However, few thoughts on the subject highlight the importance of the trace in this relationship which links us to the machine. Often, an interactive experience generates a trace and it is from this important element that we are thinking, in this master’s thesis, on the relationship with our interactive digital environment. The trace is then understood as a new epistemological approach to interactive digital arts. To think the digital as immaterial generates an almost non-existent of the trace within a digital work, involving a mystification. Throughout this research, our goal is to give back materiality to this trace, so that it can fit into our landscape called material. The work Pulse Room (2006) by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer will enable us to reflect on the ambivalences and convergences that exists in the approach of a computerized society in front of the digital machine, and understand how we evaluate the trace that is left behind each of our digital performances. It's only when the digital trace will incorporate a certain materiality, that we will be able to see ourselves as an object of reflection, to discern how we behave facing this environment and learn to be critical.
