Des Algériennes à Lyon. 1947-1974 / Algerian women in Lyon. 1947-1974

André, Marc 04 April 2014 (has links)
This thesis focuses on Algerian women who arrived in Lyon and surrounding areas before 1962. It presents a historical analysis which cross-compares their point of view and that of the metropolitan French, with regard to their interactions. It first examines the context in which these women arrived: the growth of Algerian nationalism and the Algerian War in metropolitan France. On the one hand, it analyses the discourses and social practices of journalists, photograph reporters, authorities, experts in demographics, judges. These discourses and social practices bear witness to the colonial era’s legacy in terms of prejudice and to the way in which this prejudice subjected Algerian women to effacement – the process in which a group of people within a society become less visible because they do not match the characteristics that are expected from them. On the other hand, through their social habits and defence strategies, these women showed their consciousness of the stereotypes affecting them: they subjected themselves to effacement and used it strategically as a camouflage. During the Algerian War, as it took shape in metropolitan France, effacement facilitated their mobilization in the two opposing parties: both FLN and MNA integrated women in their clandestine networks. This research analyses all the aspects of their involvement in the struggle: clandestine actions, repression prison, violence, mourning, flight, etc. Beyond the war as an event, this thesis moves on to resituate Algerian women in their migratory dynamics and their process of settling in, in metropolitan France, up to 1962. The study of their education, socio-professional insertion, and marriages highlights the diversity of Algerian women living in Lyon and surrounding areas. Although they benefited from welfare, they were far from being idle, and created networks that defined their own urban territories. More generally speaking, Algerian women formed a discreet diaspora. Based on a study of the press and on interviews and previously unpublished sources, this thesis highlights the evolution of a media discourse on Algerian women and cross-compares it with a sociological data base. This allows us to lay the foundations of an original form of social integration after 1962 which is community-based but not communitarian as made visible by the evolution of the association Amicale des Femmes Algériennes. It is the result of a series of cultural and political resistances in relation to which and with which Algerian women constructed their identity in metropolitan France.

De Marchi, Renato José January 2007 (has links)
The aged population is growing faster than any other group worldwide. This process reached an increasing rate in developing countries including Brazil. Oral health and general health cannot be seen separately, and the impacts of a compromised dental function are more prevalent in elderly, who accumulate through life the consequences of oral diseases, frequently reflected in extensive tooth loss, dry mouth, denture use and chewing problems. The association between dental and nutrition status of elderly has received increasing attention from researchers, and different authors have reported that tooth loss and compromised dental function are related with selection of foods easier to chew, leading to restrictions in diet. Studies carried out with different samples of elderly have demonstrated a relation between tooth loss and other oral health variables with nutritional risk, and also between compromised dental function and frailty in institutionalized elderly. The objective of this study was to verify the association between oral and nutritional status of independently-living elderly of Carlos Barbosa, RS. Four hundred and seventy-one individuals aged 60 years or above had participated in the research. A questionnaire was applied including the description of general and oral health, and socio-demographic variables. An oral examination was carried out where the tooth number, use of prosthesis and the state of the mucosa were registered. The data collection was carried between March and December of 2006, with the support of Municipality of Carlos Barbosa. The results of this study demonstrated an association between oral status and nutritional status through Mini- Nutritional Assessment. Edentulous without the use of one denture and those who reported their gingival health as unsatisfactory had been in risk of malnutrition/malnutrition (p<0,05). These results allow us to conclude that the nutritional status of independently-living elderly can be related with its oral status, and according with previous literature, edentulous elderly without the use of dentures can be in increased risk for malnutrition.

Subnutrição e risco para subnutrição: incidência e associação com variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas, em idosos domiciliados no município de São Paulo, Brasil : Estudo SABE - Saúde, Bem-estar e Envelhecimento, 2000 e 2006 / Undernutrition and risk for undernutrition: incidence and associated in elderly community-dwelling of older adults in São Paulo, Brazil: SABE Survey - Health, Wellbeing and Aging, 2000 and 2006

Alencar, Daniele Lima de 30 August 2011 (has links)
Conclusão: A subnutrição e o risco para subnutrição apresentaram incidência elevada e associação direta com depressão e grupo etário 75 / Introduction: Increasing age is considered risk for undernutrition in the elderly. Objective: Identify the incidence of undernutrition and risk for undernutrition in the elderly, living in São Paulo / Brazil, in 2000 and 2006, and association with sociodemographic and clinical variables. Methods: We used data from the SABE Survey: Health, Wellbeing and Aging, cohort, epidemiological, household-based, conducted in 2000 (n = 2,143) and 2006 (n = 1,115), interviewing the elderly ( 60 years) of both sexes, selected by random sample. The study included individuals who had all the necessary data for identification of undernutrition and risk for undernutrition by the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA®), considering undernutrition (MNA® <17 points), risk for undernutrition (MNA® 17 - 23.5 points), and that in 2000, did not show this nutritional disorder. The variables were: dependent - undernutrition and risk for undernutrition, explanatory - gender, age groups (60 - 74; 75), income, depression (Geriatric Depression Scale), dementia (Mini Mental State Examination) home company and number of reported illnesses (cancer, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, coronary disease, chronic pulmonary disease, cerebrovascular disease, joint disease and osteoporosis To identify the association among the variables, it was applied the Rao Scott test, for complex samples, multiple logistic regression (p<0.05) and statistical software Stata/SE 10.0 for Windows. Results: We reviewed 636 elderly and the incidence rate of undernutrition and risk for undernutrition was 17.1 / 1,000 person-years. The largest proportion (21,4 per cent ) of undernourished individuals or risk for undernutrition, was composed by the group 75 years (p = 0.002) and depressive symptoms (23,5 per cent ) (p=0,000). Undernutrition and risk for undernutrition were associated directly to the age group 75 (OR = 2.47, CI = 1.42 to 4.29) and depression (OR = 2.90, CI = 1.64 - 5.13).Conclusion: Undernutrition and risk for undernutrition had high incidence and direct association with depression and age 75

Modelování elektrických obvodů ve specializovaném paralelním systému / Electric Circuits Simulations in a Specialized Parallel System

Janko, Roman January 2013 (has links)
This work provides an overview of methods for the numerical solution of differential equations. Options of their parallelization, a division of computational operations on multiple microprocessors, are provided with emphasis placed on the Taylor series. The next part of the work is devoted to the description of a specialized parallel system, which was design to fast solving of these equations. Differential equations are appropriate to describe electrical circuits. An important characteristic of each circuit is its behavior in the frequency domain. The aim of this thesis was to design and implement a program which investigate frequency characteristics of AC circuits. A method for analyzing a circuit and automatically assembling corresponding equations is presented. These differential equations are then solved in TKSL. At the end of this work a time consumption is evaluated and compared with Matlab.

Tlili, Ayoub 10 1900 (has links)
The monitoring of urban areas and their spatiotemporal dynamics is an important issue for the urban population, at the environmental, economic, as well as social level. With the launch of satellites carrying next-generation synthetic aperture radars (TerraSAR-X, COSMO-SkyMed, ALOS, RADARSAT-2, Sentinel-1, Constellation RADARSAT), it is possible to obtain time series of images with fine temporal and spatial resolutions. These multitemporal data help to better analyze and describe urban structures, and their variations in space and time. Satellite interferometry is performed by comparing the phases of SAR images taken at different satellite passes over the same territory. By opt-ing for satellite positions separated by a long baseline, InSAR leads to the creation of digital elevation models (DEM). If this baseline is short and, at the limit zero, we have the case of differential interferometry (DInSAR) which leads to the estimation of the possible movement of the land between the two acquisitions. In both InSAR applica-tions, two operations are important that ensure the generation of quality interferograms. The first is the filtering of ubiquitous noise in the interferometric phases and the second is the unwrapping of the phases. These two operations become particularly complex in urban areas where the phase noise is added to the frequent jumps and discontinuities of phases due to the presence of buildings and other raised structures. The objective of this research is the development of new filtering and phase unwrap-ping algorithms that can perform better than algorithms considered as reference in this field. The goal is to generate quality InSAR products in urban areas. Regarding filtering, we have established an algorithm that is a new formulation of the adaptive anisotropic Gaussian filter. As for the phase unwrapping algorithm, it is based on the minimization of energy by a genetic algorithm using contextual modelling of the phase field. Various tests have been carried out with simulated and real SAR images that demonstrated the potential of our algorithms that in many respects exceeds that of standard algorithms. Finally, to achieve the goal of our research, we integrated our algorithms into the SNAP software environment and applied the entire procedure to generate a DEM with high-resolution RADARSAT-2 images from an area of the City of Montreal (Canada) as well as maps of land movement in the Mexico City region (Mexico) with relatively medium-resolution Sentinel-1 images. Comparison of the results with data from external quality sources also demonstrated the strong potential of our algorithms.

Computational Tools for Improved Analysis and Assessment of Groundwater Remediation Sites

Joseph, Joshua Allen Jr. 06 August 2008 (has links)
Remediation of contaminated groundwater remains a high-priority national goal in the United States. Water is essential to life, and new sources of water are needed for an expanding population. Groundwater remediation remains a significant technical challenge despite decades of research into this field. New approaches are needed to address the most severely-polluted aquifers, and cost-effective solutions are required to meet remediation objectives that protect human health and the environment. Source reduction combined with Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA) is a remediation strategy whereby the source of contamination is aggressively treated or removed and the residual groundwater plume depletes due to natural processes in the subsurface. The USEPA requires long-term performance monitoring of groundwater at MNA sites over the remediation timeframe, which often takes decades to complete. Presently, computational tools are lacking to adequately integrate source remediation with economic models. Furthermore, no framework has been developed to highlight the tradeoff between the degree of remediation versus the level of benefit within a cost structure. Using the Natural Attenuation Software (NAS) package developed at Virginia Tech, a set of formulae have been developed for calculating the TOR for petroleum-contaminated aquifers (specifically tracking benzene and MTBE) through statistical techniques. With the knowledge of source area residual saturation, groundwater velocity, and contaminant plume source length, the time to remediate a site contaminated with either benzene or MTBE can be determined across a range of regulatory maximum contaminant levels. After developing formulae for TOR, an integrated and interactive decision tool for framing the decision analysis component of the remediation problem was developed. While MNA can be a stand-alone groundwater remediation technology, significant benefits may be realized by layering a more traditional source zone remedial technique with MNA. Excavation and soil vapor extraction when applied to the front end of a remedial action plan can decrease the amount of time to remediation and while generally more expensive than an MNA-only approach, may accrue long-term economic advantages that would otherwise be foregone. The value of these research components can be realized within the engineering and science communities, as well as through government, business and industry, and communities where groundwater contamination and remediation are of issue. Together, these tools constitute the Sâ ªEâ ªEâ ªPâ ªAGE paradigm, founded upon the concept of sound science for an environmental engineering, effectual economics, and public policy agenda. The TOR formulation simplifies the inputs necessary to determine the number of years that an MNA strategy will require before project closure and thus reduces the specialized skills and training required to perform a numerical analysis that for one set of conditions could require many hours of simulation time. The economic decision tool, that utilizes a life cycle model to evaluate a set of feasible alternatives, highlights the tradeoffs between time and economics can be realized over the lifetime of the remedial project. / Ph.

Tudela Marco, Lorena 19 November 2015 (has links)
Tesis por compendio / [EN] The Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) include a wide range of issues; those that cover food safety, animal health and plant protection, are known as Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS). SPS are a key element in the agrifood trade and a major challenge for trade policy and food safety. The application of the SPS is a dynamic and complex process due to the diversity of actors involved and the heterogeneity of objectives pursued: political, social, economic and environmental. In this global scenario, with increasingly complex regulations and organizations that affect the rules of agricultural trade, it is necessary to know more about its operation. This research aims to improve the understanding of the implementation of SPS in the agrifood trade. It challenges the assumption that the application of MNA is directly or exclusively linked to technical issues or others related to food safety, aiming to investigate other drivers that influence its application. An analysis of the implementation of SPS is carried out through two research questions: Q1) whether the implementation of NTMs is related to the elimination of trade tariffs, ultimately, the existence of policy substitution between NTMs and tariff; Q2) the application of NTMs is motivated by a systematic behaviour, guided by economic considerations and policies beyond the application of specific food notifications and health problems. The Q1 is studied in the countries of the South and East Mediterranean (SEMC) while Q2 is studied at the European Union (EU). The methodology used to address the first hypothesis, the policy substitution, begins with an analysis of the state of the art, continues with the classification into categories based on the use of NTMs and tariffs, and finally applies multiple regression models to test the hypothesis. To compare tariffs and NTMs, the research works with the Ad Valorem Equivalents (AVEs) established by Kee et al. (2009) and supported by an extensive literature. To address the second hypothesis, the source of information used is the RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed) database. The methodology applied begins with the construction of a tool able to transform the descriptive information from the RASFF into the numerical coding of the Harmonized System (HS) of trade, to subsequently apply the Negative Binomial model (NB) and Zero-Inflated Negative Binomial model (ZINB), thus identifying the determinants of the notifications process included in the RASFF from several Member States (MS) studied. The thesis presents the four articles written throughout the investigation. The results indicate that: (i) there is need for pursuing a new approach in agrifood trade policies, beyond the economic sphere, to strengthen the partnership between the EU and other countries, particularly the SEMC, and among the countries belonging to the latter ; (ii) the SEMC are at very different stages of harmonization of trade policies, but in regards to agrifood trade SEMC countries generally show low level of tariff protection, although levels of implementation of NTMs are variable and substitution policy is recognized in some specific sectors; (iii) the EU MS studied show homogeneous implementation of food notifications regardless of the country of origin. At product level, a correlation has been found between the notifications applied one year and the expected number of notifications in the following years (path dependence and reputation effect); (iv) however, there is a tendency among the EU MS studied to adopt common behaviours in implementing food safety measures. / Tudela Marco, L.
