A descoberta da magnetoresistência (GMR) em materiais granulares gerou um grande interesse no estudo destes materiais, havendo um empenho particular no estudo de grãos de CO em CU e AG. Como as propriedades de transporte estão ligadas intimamente às estruturais, o entendimento da GMR nestes materiais requer uma descrição acurada destas características. Neste trabalho, procurando determinar algumas características magnéticas locais, usamos o método RS-LMTO-ASA para realizar um estudo sistemático dos momentos magnéticos locais e campos hiperfinos com respeito ao tamanho de grãos de CI com até 135 átomos em matrizes de CU e AG fcc. Além disso, estudamos FE e CO nas configurações espaciais seguintes em hospedeiro AG: impurezas isoladas, dímeros FE-FE e FE-CO e precipitados com 13, 19 e 43 átomos. Calculamos o FE enquanto impureza central nos grãos de CO e, para os clusters com 13 e 19 átomos, também consideramos a impureza em posições de interface. Encontramos para os grãos em AG momentos magnéticos bastante estáveis e, para o CU, obtivemos uma ligeira dependência do momento magnético médio com o tamanho do grão. Nossos resultados mostram que há uma diferença significativa no comportamento de grãos e clusters livres. Para os campos hiperfinos, mostramos que este segue comportamentos semelhantes em todos os casos, tendo uma dependência sistemática com relação ao sítio / The discovery of giant magnetoresistance (GMR) in granular materiais generated a great interest in the study of these systems. Special attention has been devoted to Co grains inside Cu and Ag medium. As the transport properties are closely related to structural characteristics, an accurate description is required in order to understand the GMR behavior in these materiais. Here we use the Real Space-LMTO-ASA method to perform a systematic study of the site and grain size dependence of local magnetic moments and hyperfine fields at Co grains ( up to 135 atoms) in fcc Ag and Cu hosts. We have also studied Fe and Co atoms in different spatial configurations in Ag hosts: isolated impurities, Fe-Fe and Fe-Co dimmers and precipitates containing 13, 19 and 43 atoms. Special attention is given to the differences between central and interface positions of Fe atoms in the two smallest Co clusters. We found a very stable value for the local moment at Co atoms in Ag hosts whereas the average local moments for Co grains in Cu tend to be slight ly larger for larger grains. we show that free and embedded Co clusters have very different magnetic behavior. The hyperfine fields present similar values in both matrices and exhibit a systematic site dependence.

Measurement of the magnetic moment of the 2+ state of 72Zn via extension of the high-velocity transient-field methodFiori, Enrico 13 December 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Les moments magnétiques peuvent donner des détails sur la structure nucléaire et sur la composition de la fonction d'onde du noyau, tout spécialement si le caractère de particule indépendante du noyau est prépondérant. Pour cette raison, le moment magnétique du premier état excité du noyau radioactif riche en neutrons 72Zn a été mesuré au Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL, Caen, France). Le résultat de l'expérience a confirmé les prédictions du modèle en couches, même si l'incertitude sur la mesure ne pouvait pas contraindre fortement les modèles. La mesure a été effectuée en utilisant la technique du champ transitoire (TF) et les noyaux d'intérêt ont été produits par fragmentation. Avant cette expérience, la technique TF à haute vitesse n'avait été utilisée qu'avec des projectiles allant jusqu'à Z=24. Ce fut donc la première fois qu'un moment magnétique d'un ion lourd avec Z >24 avait été mesurée à cette vitesse. Afin de développer la technique et de recueillir des informations sur l'interaction hyperfine qui agit entre les électrons et les noyaux polarisés, deux expériences ont été menées au Laboratorio Nationale del Sud (LNS, Catane, Italie). Dans cette thèse, je présenterai le développement de la technique TF à haute vitesse pour les expériences g(2+;72 Zn) et BTF (Kr, Ge). L'analyse des résultats et leur interprétation seront ensuite discutées.

High-quality lattice-matched LaNiO3/LaMnO3 superlattices with monolayer terrace structure have
been grown on both (111)- and (001)-oriented SrTiO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition. In contrast
to the previously reported experiments, a magnetic exchange bias is observed that reproducibly
occurs in both (111)- and (001)-oriented superlattices with the thin single layers of 5 and 7 unit cells,
respectively. The exchange bias is theoretically explained by charge transfer-induced magnetic
moments at Ni atoms. Furthermore, magnetization data at low temperature suggest two magnetic
phases in the superlattices, with Néel temperature around 10 K. Electrical transport measurements
reveal a metal-insulator transition with strong localization of electrons in the superlattices with the
thin LaNiO3 layers of 4 unit cells, in which the electrical transport is dominated by two-dimensional
variable range hopping.

An emerging branch of electronics, the optospintronics, would be highly boosted if the control of
magnetic order by light is implemented in magnetic semiconductors’ nanostructures being
compatible with the actual technology. Here, we show that the ferromagnetic magnetization of low
Fe-doped ZnO nanowires prepared by carbothermal process is enhanced under illumination up to
temperatures slightly below room temperature. This enhancement is related to the existence of an
oxygen vacancy VO in the neighborhood of an antiferromagnetic superexchange Fe3+-Fe3+ pair.
Under illumination, the VO is ionized to to V+O giving an electron to a closeFe3+ ion from the antiferromagnetic
pair. This light excited electron transition allows the transition of Fe3+ to Fe2+ forming
stable ferromagnetic double exchange pairs, increasing the total magnetization. The results presented
here indicate an efficient way to influence the magnetic properties of ZnO based nanostructures
by light illumination at high temperatures.

Magnetic spin structures in epitaxial BiFeO3 single layer and an epitaxial BaTiO3/BiFeO3
multilayer thin film have been studied by means of nuclear resonant scattering of synchrotron
radiation. We demonstrate a spin reorientation in the 15 x[BaTiO3/BiFeO3] multilayer compared
to the single BiFeO3 thin film. Where as in the BiFeO3 film, the net magnetic moment m→ lies in the (1–10) plane, identical to the bulk, m→ in the multilayer points
to different polar and azimuthal directions. This spin reorientation indicates that strain and interfaces play a significant role in
tuning the magnetic spin order. Furthermore, large difference in the magnetic field dependence of
the magnetoelectric coefficient observed between the BiFeO3 single layer and multilayer can be
associated with this magnetic spin reorientation.

Room temperature magnetoelectric BiFeO3-BaTiO3 superlattices with strong out-of-plane
magnetic anisotropy have been prepared by pulsed laser deposition. We show that the out-ofplane
magnetization component increases with the increasing number of double layers.
Moreover, the magnetoelectric voltage coefficient can be tuned by varying the number of
interfaces, reaching a maximum value of 29 V/cmOe for the20×BiFeO3-BaTiO3 superlattice.
This enhancement is accompanied by a high degree of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy,
making the latter an ideal candidate for the next generation of data storage devices.
