Projekt inovace procesu plánování a kontroly JCL skriptů na systému mainframe / Innovation of planning process and control of JCL scripts on mainframe system project

Valášek, Petr January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to create, for a particular company, an innovative approach for the ongoing process of planning and verification of JCL scripts integrated in the system mainframe. These processes are currently inefficient and must be improved. During the planning process of JCL scripts an internal application will be created that increases team effectiveness and simplifies the preparation of procurement reports. With the internal application the company will also need a system upgrade of the mainframe Control-M from BMC software company, which will significantly improve the process of verifying JCL scripts. This thesis includes a functional application with the source code.

Preparation of a hands-on tutorial teaching basics of Mainframe ISPF programming / Preparation of a hands-on tutorial teaching basics of Mainframe Assembler and ISPF programming

Vašák, Michal January 2010 (has links)
This paper is primarily focused on developers wanting to learn the essentials of developing mainframe applications on the IBM`s Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF) platform. It describes the components of the ISPF environment, focusing mainly on the two components most used in mainframe application development: The ISPF Dialog Manager and the ISPF Program Development Facility (PDF). Second part of the paper is a hands-on tutorial, where the reader is guided trough the creation of a set of simple interactive ISPF applications, with focus on covering the most used features of the platform. Within the paper it is assumed that any reader interested in this topic has basic mainframe skills and knowledge, including user knowledge of ISPF PDF, as it is usually the primary tool for dataset manipulation and editing in the z/OS mainframe environment. A wider skill set is assumed for readers who want to go through the tutorial, for example REXX and z/OS assembler basics. However none of these skills are necessary, nor expected, from those who are mainly interested in finding out what ISPF is and what it can offer to z/OS applications and their developers.

IBM mainframe : a study in business strategy

Slanda, Arkadiusz Marcin 13 August 2010 (has links)
On April 7, 2009, IBM celebrated the mainframe’s 45th year. Drawing on its roots in punch-card tabulators, the machine has come a long way to become many customers’ preferred e-business solution. Throughout its lifetime, IBM’s strategy adapted the machine to the changing market. During the late 1960s, the introduction of the System/360 provided customers with compatibility and scalability across various computer lines. Popularity of the system began to suffer during the client/server era of the 1990s but it quickly recovered as the z Series server line was developed to support e-business solutions. IBM’s strategy made the mainframe successful but continued improvements are still necessary to ensure its future success. / text

Hur ser framtiden ut för mainframes?

Birch-Jensen, Fredrik, Sylve, Alexander January 2019 (has links)
This Essay is meant to look into the possibilities of the mainframe systems and whether they have a spot as one of the leading information system service providers in the foreseeable future. In conclusion, “How does the future of the mainframe look?”. Numerous big IT media providers such as news services, blogs and forums have written about the subject of whether the mainframe is going to last as one of the go-to platforms for core operation information systems. This essay is going to look into the actual state of the mainframe, and where the mainframe is heading in the future. It also delves further into what options there currently are to the mainframe platform and why these options might be better or worse than the mainframe. To answer these questions the essay will present the results of research from multiple large international companies such as IBM, Ericsson and Volvo. During these interviews questions have been answered about the current situation of the mainframe, why it is currently suffering from rumors about being on the brink of death, and what the companies actually think about the mainframe. The Essay does not look too deeply into the technical aspects of the mainframe platform, but more at the system as a whole, and its organizational impact in larger companies. To help do this the essay makes use of the DeLean and McLone model of information system success. As with all matters regarding the future, even this essay could not with certainty state exactly what will happen with the mainframe platform in the future. However multiple interesting conclusions were made about the future and alternatives of the mainframe.

A Migration Management Framework Proposal For Cobol/cics Based Mainframes

Kaplan, Halil 01 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Today, mainframes contain a considerable portion of business applications worldwide. It is estimated that the current inventory of production COBOL running on mainframes is 150 to 200 billion lines of code. Despite the efforts to change within the mainframe environment, these mainframes, nowadays, face major problems for host organizations due to a combined set of financial, business related, technical and organizational problems. Moreover, the factors like diminishing resources (COBOL programmers), lack of documentation, inability to integrate with other systems, increasing maintenance costs, etc. have caused the organizations search for migration solutions. To overcome this problem within the context of modernization, over the years several main migration approaches that ranges from simple screen scraping methods to complete re-write of applications or re-hosting of platforms have been developed. To contribute to the solution of this overall problem, this thesis proposes a methodology framework specifically for the COBOL/CICS based mainframes. The research studies in this topic within this field are mainly focused on the technical aspects whereas our concentration is covering not only that but the other essential aspects of the problem domain. These are organizational view, project management view and process view. Within the thesis study, a special interest is given to the modernization strategy selection among migration, rewrite, packaged and do-nothing alternatives. Experimental results are also provided within the thesis to prove the usability of the approach for this selection.

Orientador: Marcius Fabius Henriques de Carvalho / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Mecanica / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-13T18:34:00Z (GMT). / Abstract: This dissertation proposes a method to reduce process response time in mainframes without modifying the software codes. Due to the differences between disks and processors speed, the benefits were reached through the disk queue reduction applying some concepts of operations management such as Queuing Theory, Theory of Constraints, Batch Processing and Setup Time reduced the response time in mainframes. The method proposed restructured the use of the hardware available instead of modifying the software codes or increasing hardware capacity, which are two options for response time reduction. Mapping the steps in information technology processes and using concepts of production improvement reduced the influences of a competitive operational environment on software performance. The outcome was a significant processor and run time reduction, without business environment risks. / Mestrado / Engenharia de Fabricação / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica
