Today, solid waste management in coal mines is an urgent requirement for the coal mining industry. The overlying materials removed from a seam of coal are solid wastes transported to dumping sites and should be strictly, efficiently managed and monitored by an automatic system. These wastes must be separated for use as leveling and filling materials or residue materials need to be processed in order to minimize the impact on the environment. The system was designed to manage and monitor vehicles transporting solid waste in open coal mines to force them in tasks of taking solid wastes and giving out these wastes in the right places, to help collect and process suitably. The results showed that the calculation of numbers of trips using the software program named "Management of trucks" achieved the statistics of running trucks between the points of removing wastes and dumping sites, in which the numbers of valid and invalid trips were given out. The monitoring process obtained the statistics of active and inactive total time of vehicles transporting solid waste. From that we can calculate and classify them at each dumping site. In addition, the statistics of productivity of power-shovels, fuel consumption levels of excavators and trucks were also gained. / Hiện nay quản lý chất thải rắn tại các mỏ than là một yêu cầu cấp bách đối với ngành khai thác than. Các chất thải khi bóc vỉa được chở đến các bãi đổ cần có một hệ thống quản lý giám sát chặt chẽ. Những chất thải này phải được phân loại để làm vật liệu san lấp hoặc vật liệu cần xử lý nhằm giảm thiểu các tác động tới môi trường. Hệ thống được thiết kế có nhiệm vụ quản lý và giám sát các xe chở chất thải trong quá trình khai thác tại các mỏ lộ thiên, đảm bảo các phương tiện này được xúc và đổ đúng nơi quy định, giúp thu gom, xử lý một cách phù hợp. Kết quả cho thấy rằng việc tính toán số lượng các chuyến xe bằng cách sử dụng chương trình phần mềm có tên là "Quản lý xe tải" thu được các số liệu thống kê xe chạy giữa các điểm xúc chất thải và các điểm đổ, trong đó thống kê được số lượng các chuyến đi hợp lệ và không hợp lệ. Quá trình giám sát thu được các số liệu thống kê của tổng thời gian hoạt động và không hoạt động của các phương tiện vận chuyển chất thải rắn. Từ đó chúng tôi có thể tính toán và phân loại chúng ở mỗi điểm đổ chất thải. Ngoài ra, cũng thu được các số liệu thống kê năng suất hoạt động của máy xúc, mức tiêu thụ nhiên liệu của máy xúc và xe tải.

Managing populations in the face of uncertainty: adaptive management, partial observability and the dynamic value of information.

The work presented in this thesis falls naturally into two parts. The first part (Chapter 2), is concerned with the benefit of perturbing a population into an immediately undesirable state, in order to improve estimates of a static probability which may improve long-term management. We consider finding the optimal harvest policy for a theoretical harvested population when a key parameter is unknown. We employ an adaptive management framework to study when it is worth sacrificing short term rewards in order to increase long term profits. / Active adaptive management has been increasingly advocated in natural resource management and conservation biology as a methodology for resolving key uncertainties about population dynamics and responses to management. However, when comparing management policies it is traditional to weigh future rewards geometrically (at a constant discount rate) which results in far-distant rewards making a negligible contribution to the total benefit. Under such a discounting scheme active adaptive management is rarely of much benefit, especially if learning is slow. In Chapter 2, we consider two proposed alternative forms of discounting for evaluating optimal policies for long term decisions which have a social component. / We demonstrate that discount functions which weigh future rewards more heavily result in more conservative harvesting strategies, but do not necessarily encourage active learning. Furthermore, the optimal management strategy is not equivalent to employing geometric discounting at a lower rate. If alternative discount functions are made mandatory in calculating optimal management policies for environmental management, then this will affect the structure of optimal management regimes and change when and how much we are willing to invest in learning. / The second part of this thesis is concerned with how to account for partial observability when calculating optimal management policies. We consider the problem of controlling an invasive pest species when only partial observations are available at each time step. In the model considered, the monitoring data available are binomial observations of a probability which is an index of the population size. We are again concerned with estimating a probability, however, in this model the probability is changing over time. / Before including partial observability explicitly, we consider a model in which perfect observations of the population are available at each time step (Chapter 3). It is intuitive that monitoring will be beneficial only if the management decision depends on the outcome. Hence, a necessary condition for monitoring to be worthwhile is that control polices which are specified in terms of the system state, out-perform simpler time-based control policies. Consequently, in addition to providing a benchmark against which we can compare the optimal management policy in the case of partial observations, analysing the perfect observation case also provides insight into when monitoring is likely to be most valuable. / In Chapters 4 and 5 we include partial observability by modelling the control problem as a partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP). We outline several tests which stem from a property of conservation of expected utility under monitoring, which aid in validating the model. We discuss the optimal management policy prescribed by the POMDP for a range of model scenarios, and use simulation to compare the POMDP management policy to several alternative policies, including controlling with perfect observations and no observations. / In Chapter 6 we propose an alternative model, developed in the spirit of a POMDP, that does not strictly satisfy the definition of a POMDP. We find that although the second model has some conceptually appealing attributes, it makes an undesirable implicit assumption about the underlying population dynamics.

Using Self-management Interventions to Increase On-task Behaviors of Students with Intellectual Disabilities in Inclusive Classrooms in Türkiye (Turkey)

<p>Low levels of on-task behaviors can be troublesome for both teachers and students leading to difficulties associated with regulating off-task and disruptive behaviors and providing continuous prompts. Research indicates that students with intellectual disabilities (IDs) frequently engage in off-task and disruptive behaviors (e.g., talking, sleeping, and making negative statements). According to teachers, the on-task behaviors of students with IDs are unsatisfactory due to a behavioral deficit; as a result, these students demand more individual time and attention from adults than their typically developing classmates. This dependence on external prompts can have negative consequences for students with IDs, including exclusion from general education classes and school dropout. Although empirical investigations to address on-task behaviors is limited in Türkiye, Turkish educators indicated that one of their primary concerns was to manage off-task behaviors of students with disabilities in their classrooms. General education classroom teachers also have suggested that special education classrooms were a better placement for students with IDs because of the need to manage off-task behaviors via one-on-one or small group instructional arrangements. As a result of these off-task issues, there is a need for interventions to assist teachers in improving on-task behaviors of students with IDs which may, in turn, promote the inclusion of these students into general education classrooms. </p> <p>  One such intervention is self-management. Self-management strategies in general and self-monitoring in particular have been found to be effective in enhancing on-task behaviors of students with IDs due in part to intrusiveness, adaptability, and reactivity impact. These interventions can also be used to promote inclusion because the responsibility of behavior management passes from the teacher to the student.This change in responsibility could leave teachers more time to teach instead of providing continuous prompts given the higher teacher-student ration in general education classrooms. Unfortunately, there are several limitations in self-management research in Türkiye including the following: (a) the implementation of self-management interventions to improve on-task behaviors has been prominently conducted with students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and learning disabilities (LD); (b) the vast majority of these interventions has been conducted in segregated settings such as special education classrooms in middle school settings; and (c) systematic planning in generalization and maintenance has been lacking or limited that have caused lack of generalization of increased on-task behaviors to other settings. Given that Türkiye has only two studies investigated self-management interventions with students with IDs, these interventions have similar concerns as Western countries including lack of investigations in general education classrooms and the absence of generalization and maintenance planning.  </p> <p>In the current data set, self-management interventions (i.e., self-monitoring, self-evaluation, token economy) was utilized to improve on-task behaviors of 4 students with IDs in general education classrooms in Türkiye. A single case multiple-baseline across participants design was used. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate (a) the magnitude of the effect of self-monitoring of the on-task behaviors of Turkish students with IDs, (b) the extent to which the on-task behaviors of Turkish students with IDs generalized and maintained after exposure to self-monitoring training, (c) the effect of self-monitoring on the academic behaviors of Turkish students with IDs, and (d) the relationship between the implementation of self-monitoring and teacher reports on changes in students’ on-task behaviors.  Self-management interventions were implemented across three settings (i.e., Turkish-Language Art [TLA], math, social studies), and generalization data were collected in English-Language Art classes (ELA). Additionally, an average of 16-week maintenance data were collected from all the intervention settings (i.e., TLA, math, social studies). Based on two statistical analyses (i.e., Tau-U and Performance Criteria Based Effect Size [PCES]), the effect of self-management interventions was <em>immediate</em>, <em>generalized</em> across settings, and <em>maintained</em> over long period of time. PCESimmediate was computed to be 1.14 with a significant effect. The overall impact of the Tau-<em>U</em> intervention was 1.00 CI95 (.705 to 1.00), with generalization and maintenance effects of 1.00 CI95 (.695 to 1.00) and 1.00 CI95 (.592 to 1.00), respectively. The total PCES values were determined to be 1.2 for high effectiveness, 1.08 for generalization, and 1.2 for strong effect maintenance. The classroom teachers’ overall classroom behavior ratings were also aligned with the increased on-task behaviors. Therefore, study findings suggested that self-management interventions that originated in the West can be implemented in diverse cultural contexts, specifically with Turkish students with IDs in inclusive classrooms. Implications for future studies are discussed.   </p>

The need for a green clean living environment is increasing today, with the boom of the socioeconomic development, educational level. However, the environmental pollution becomes an alerted global issue due to the large amount of wastes discharged making this need to be not easily met at the moment. Greenhouse gas emission mainly from energy, transport and agricultural land use is causing climate change because of their long atmospheric lifetime and trapping the heat in the atmosphere. Harmful effects and damages caused by environment pollution and climate change are unpredictable. It was reported that every year millions of people die because of fine particles when exposing to air pollution and other millions die from water-born diseases. Management and monitoring of air and water pollution by using GIS technology is an effective method. The measured data can be obtained continuously, quickly and accurately at stations in any regions even with complex terrain. This helps reduce the required number of employees, manage automatically and continuously a large number of data. / Ngày nay nhu cầu về một môi trường sống xanh, sạch đang gia tăng, với sự bùng nổ của phát triển kinh tế - xã hội và trình độ dân trí. Tuy nhiên, ô nhiễm môi trường đang trở thành một vấn đề cảnh báo toàn cầu do số lượng lớn các chất thải được xả ra môi trường làm cho nhu cầu này không dễ dàng được đáp ứng tại thời điểm này. Phát thải khí nhà kính chủ yếu là từ sử dụng năng lượng, giao thông vận tải và đất nông nghiệp đang gây ra biến đổi khí hậu vì thời gian tồn tại của cúng dài và giữ nhiệt trong khí quyển. Making the grade : self-monitoring and student public speaking performance

Everyone wants others to think as well of them as possible, particularly during structured social presentations, such as a speech. High self-monitors have an innate facility with impression management-the process of projecting a favorable social image. If a student is a high self-monitor, how might this impact his or her grades? Might low self-monitors' grades improve during the course? Surprisingly the results of this thesis showed that self-monitoring was not correlated with speech grades. Reasons for this finding and possible insights for future research are also discussed.
