Mapeamento de perigo de escorregamento na bacia hidrográfica do Rio Grande de Ubatuba - Ubatuba (SP): comparação dos métodos analítico e sintético / Landslide Hazard Mapping in the basin of the Rio Grande Ubatuba - Ubatuba ( SP ): comparison of analytical and synthetic methods

Pedro Carignato Basilio Leal 24 October 2014 (has links)
Geological hazard due landslides is the likelihood of occurrence of such events or phenomena, either induced or not by human activities that can cause human, social-economic or environmental loss. Landslide hazard maps are important tools for territory management among government, private sector, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), local communities and academy. The development of science and techniques brought about many methods for landslide assessment. This work aims to compare two approaches: the syntethic and analytical methods based on Geographical Information Systems (GIS), geoprocessing and cartographic data modeling. The used attributes, organised in numeric rasters were declivity, drainage and lineaments density, water excess and vegetation cover and land use (NDVI). Procedures of map algebra resulted in the Landslide Hazard Indexes, from which the hazard maps were generated. The maps were compared and validated across previous risk and suscetibility maps with high correlation results. It was concluded that rather than opposites both methods are suitable for an complementary use.

Focal Operations with Network Distance Based Neighbourhoods : Implementation, Application and Visualization / Nätverksavståndsbaserade Grannskapsoperationer : Implementering, Applikation och Visualisering

Ottenby, Nore January 2015 (has links)
In spatial analysis, many operations are performed considering the neighbouring locations of a feature. The standard definition of a neighbourhood is an area confined by geometrical length and direction with respect to its focus. When allocating a location for a service, the population distribution is often considered. Standard GIS software includes tools for computations with uniform neighbourhoods, usually equal sized circles. These tools can be used for distribution analysis. Many geographic studies used as basis for city planning decisions use distance as an evaluator. It is a frequent occurrence that the actual distance is approximated using factored straight-line distance. For great distances and large datasets, this is a sufficient means of evaluation, whilst for smaller distances for specific locations, it poses major drawbacks. For distribution analysis in a network space, the neighbourhood would need to be derived from the local set of network features, creating a unique neighbourhood for each location. The neighbourhood can then be used to overlay other datasets to perform analysis of features within the network space. This report describes the application of network distance based neighbourhoods to design a tool, Network Location Analysis, for calculating focal statistics for use as a city planning decision support. The tool has been implemented as a workflow of ArcGIS tools scripted as a Python toolbox. The input required by the tool is a population point layer and a vector network dataset. The output is a grid of points with population statistics as attributes and corresponding neighbourhoods generalized as polygons. The tool has been tested by comparing it to standard focal operations implemented in ArcGIS and by applying it to the dataset used when conducting a study on the location of a new metro station using conventional ArcGIS tools. The results have been analysed and visualized and compared to data used in the study. The result concludes that Network Location Analysis surpasses conventional ArcGIS tools when conducting analysis on features in a network. It derives an accurate set of sum and proximity statistics for all locations within the processing extent, enabling analysis on the population distribution throughout the area and for specific points. The output is intuitive, manageable and can be visualized as raster or by displaying the neighbourhoods as polygons and can be used to evaluate population distribution and network connectivity. The drawbacks of the tool are its lack of robustness, its rigidity to input and the inefficient implementation causing execution time to be unpractical.

No. of bitstreams: 1 AnaBSS_DISSERT.pdf: 3113222 bytes, checksum: 373dd78ed760c50f019d386f79d16af0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-12-21 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior / Provide data and information on watershed becomes important since the knowledge of their physical characteristics, land use, etcetera, allows for better planning and sustainable use of economically, socially and environmentally in this area. The investigation of the physical environment has been commonly given with the use of geoprocessing, which has proved a very efficient tool. Within this context, this research aims at analyzing the river basin Puna? (located in the cities of Touros, Rio do Fogo and Pureza, state of Rio Grande do Norte) in several aspects, using geoprocessing as a tool of work, to provide information about the entire watershed. Specifically, this study aimed to update pre-existing maps, such as geological, geomorphological and land use, generating map of environmental vulnerability, under the aspect of erosion susceptibility of the area, generating map of legal incompatibility, identifying areas that are already being employed in breach of environmental legislation; propose solutions to the occupation of the river basin Puna?, focused on environmental planning. The methodology was based on the use of geoprocessing tools for data analysis and to make maps of legal incompatibility and environmental vulnerability. For the first map was taken into account the environmental legislation regarding the protection of watersheds. For the vulnerability analysis, the generated map was the result of crossing the maps of geology, geomorphology, soils and land use, having been assigned weights to different attributes of thematic maps, generating a map of environmental vulnerability in relation to susceptibility to erosion. The analysis results indicate that agriculture is the most significant activity in the basin, in total occupied area, which confers a high degree of environmental vulnerability in most of the basin, and some agricultural areas eventually develop in a manner inconsistent with Brazilian environmental legislation. It is proposed to consider deploying a measure of revitalization of the watershed in more critical areas and conservation through mitigation measures on the causes of environmental degradation, such as protection of water sources, protection and restoration of riparian vegetation, protection of permanent preservation areas, containment of erosion processes in general, and others listed or not in specific laws, and even the establishment of a committee of basins in the area / Fornecer dados e informa??es a respeito de bacias hidrogr?ficas se torna importante uma vez que o conhecimento de suas caracter?sticas f?sicas, de uso e ocupa??o do solo, etc., permite um melhor planejamento e uso sustent?vel do ponto de vista econ?mico, social e ambiental deste espa?o.

Computer Modeling of Geology in the Sparta and Montpelier Quadrangles of Clay and Chickasaw Counties, Mississippi: A Tantalizing Near Miss

Defibaugh y Chávez, Jason 07 August 2004 (has links)
This project attempted to combine digital data sets to define and map geologic features in the Sparta and Montpelier quadrangles of Chickasaw and Clay counties in northeastern Mississippi. LANDSAT TM, digital elevation, and soil permeability data was used in conjunction with reference data for the Sparta quadrangle to build a computer model. Variables used in the model were: geology, slope, soil permeability, vegetation indices, the first three bands of a tasseled cap transformation, and drainage frequency. The data used was LANDSAT TM 30 meter imagery, digital elevation models, also at 30 meter resolution, Penn State STASGO soils data, and the existing map of the Sparta quadrangle. The purpose of this project was to use digital data to remotely map geologic features through heavy vegetation using a computer model. While the results of this project were not completely successful, the methods used show some potential for future application.
