An evaluation of the 4-H master livestock volunteer program in Texas

Smith, Joe Douglas 10 October 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to assess the perceptions of Master Livestock Volunteer program participants regarding the effectiveness of the program, their role in the county 4-H volunteer program, and the role of various stakeholders in livestock project decision making. A census was attempted of the 242 possible participants. Using recommendations from Dillman (2000), master volunteers were contacted by email if available and via mailed questionnaire. This process yielded a 38% response rate. Follow-up methods increased the response rate to 52.4%. The volunteers indicated the programs was of high importance and effective. Findings included that volunteers perceived their most influence came in the selection of feeds. The educator role was the one most involved in the decision making process of the livestock projects, followed by the manager role, leader role, and various servant-type leadership roles. Volunteers ranked stakeholders' influence on livestock project decisions, with the youth and the parents as most influential followed by the CEA, the volunteer, and the breeder. The average participant reported nine years of overall volunteer service and two years of service as a Master Livestock Volunteer. Participants in this study were between 38 and 47 years of age.

The law of servants and the servants of the law : judicial regulation of labour relations in Montreal, 1830-1845

Pilarczyk, Ian C. January 1997 (has links)
Labour relations in Montreal during the years 1830 to 1845 were characterized by flux. The encroachment of expanding industrialization brought with it new social phenomena and pressures, new technology, and a fundamental restructuring of employment relationships. Master-servant relations still contained elements of the deeply stratified and paternalistic labour relationships ingrained in the cultural and social fabric of earlier eras, but increasingly began to exhibit the rudiments of purely contractual relationships which would come to define the modern industrial era. Courts came to play an increasingly important role in resolving labour disputes between parties. While historically the law favored the strict contractual and socio-economic interests of masters, courts began to enforce the reciprocal duties owed by masters to their servants. Servants were accorded greater access to the courts to protect their interests, with the knowledge that they had recourse to extra-judicial means of protest if the law was not sufficiently responsive.

PTASCHEK, Paulin January 2018 (has links)
In the context of globalization, the level of transnational cooperation in the field of education has been remarkably increasing over the last two decades. Besides the opportunity to study one or two semesters abroad, there is a strongly up going tendency in the number of full multinational study programs in Germany. The master program Regional and European Project Management for example is one of many European multinational study programs. This master is a collaboration of the following three universities: Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau (WHZ) in Zwickau, Germany; Université de Bretagne Sud in Lorient, France, and the Jihočeská Univerzita v Českých Budějovicích in Budweis, Czech Republic. In 2015, this program started with the enrolment of only German and French students. In 2016, students of all three above-mentioned nationalities were enrolled for the first time. This thesis will allow an insight into the theory and practice of the language usage and the multi- and plurilingualism at universities; using the example of students of the tri-national master program stated above in particular.

A rigid body and a master-master contact formulation for multibody railway applications.

Paulo Roberto Refachinho de Campos 13 September 2018 (has links)
In computer simulation the term \"multibody system\" is usually employed to describe a system of interconnected bodies. Several examples of multibody systems can be found in railway engineering. A wheelset interacting with a track through a contact interface is just one example of practical interest. Modelling mechanical systems in a virtual environment contributes to the understanding of subjects such as dynamic behaviour, stability, durability, wear, fatigue, etc. In the context of a rigid-flexible multibody system mathematically described by a weak-form, the purpose of the present work is to evaluate the contributions due to rigid bodies considering their contact interactions. Inertial contributions due to distribution of mass of a rigid body are fully developed, considering a general pole position associated with a single node, representing a rigid body element. Rodrigues rotation parameters are used to describe finite rotations, by an updated Lagrangian description. Then, the so-called master-surface to master-surface contact formulation is adapted to be used in conjunction with the rigid body element and flexible bodies, aiming to consider their interaction in a rigid-flexible multibody environment. New surface parameterizations are proposed to establish contact pairs, permitting pointwise interaction in a frictional scenario. The proposed formulation is used to represent mechanical systems from different contexts, including a numerical example of the wheel-rail contact interface. The obtained results show the robustness and applicability of the methods.

Perceptions of Enterprise zones in Sweden : A case study on how entrepreneurs in North Rinkeby would perceive the introduction of an Enterprise zone program

Shourie, Robin January 2014 (has links)
The objective of this study is to examine how entrepreneurs in North Rinkeby perceive the Enterprise zone (EZ) program suggested by the Swedish government. The purpose of implementing an enterprise zone program is to revive the economic and social condition of deprived areas. This study analyzes the perception of this proposal by examining it on a regional level.  What are the entrepreneurs’ knowledge about the proposed policy and their perception on how it will influence their decisions of employment or relocation? The method of the research is a case study of North Rinkeby area, which is one of the areas under consideration for becoming part of the proposal.  Survey questionnaires were conducted in North Rinkeby, and the neighboring areas Tensta and Bromsten. 38 respondents were surveyed regarding their perception of how the enterprise zone proposal would influence factors such as employment and entrepreneurial start-ups. The results show that many of the entrepreneurs in the North Rinkeby area are in favor of a proposal such as the Enterprise zone program which the government have suggested. Many of the respondents had little or no knowledge of the proposal of the enterprise zone program. Many of entrepreneurs found that the proposal to be unfair in terms of competition between firms in North Rinkey and its neighboring areas. At a regional level many of the entrepreneurs welcomed the proposal and agreed that if it were to be implemented, it would have a growth enhancing effect for many firms. This in turn, would lead to a positive change in firm’s employability and profitability. The respondents also thought that the proposal would increase the amount of start-ups in North Rinkeby if it were to be implemented. The investigators of this proposal have argued that relocation to the chosen area would be large from the neighboring areas. The result were mixed among entrepreneurs in the neighboring areas as how they view the relocation factor.  Even though the enterprise zone program was recently rejected, many of the entrepreneurs in all of the three areas perceived this proposal as welfare enhancing.
