Opera in Miniature : Around my piece "Raport o stanie planety" for four solo voices and ensemble

Alzin, Ryszard January 2020 (has links)
This thesis is a culmination of a two-year master program called Contemporary Performance and Composition (CoPeCo). For my final project I composed a chamber opera (“opera in miniature” as I like to call it) "Raport o stanie planety" ('Planet Report') for four solo voices and ensemble consisting of nine musicians. The main purposes of this thesis are to analyze the compositional techniques I used in that piece, problematize my artistic ideas, as well as put them in a context of other works.

Hugget i sten : En kvalitativ studie om hur Gud och Moses framställs i tre nutida filmadaptioner av exodusberättelsen / Written in stone : A qualitative study of how God and Moses are depicted in three contemporary film adaptions of The Exodus story

Kling, Martin January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to examine how God and Moses are depicted in three contemporary American film adaptions of The Exodus story. The films I have analyzed are: The Ten Commandments (2006), The Bible: Exodus (2013) and Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014). For this, I have used a content analysis and Bruce Lincoln’s theory of religious maximalism and minimalism. This study has shown that the first two films are characterized by an almighty God who helps Moses from the very first step, while the third gives a more scientific explanation of e.g. the ten pledges and the crossing of the Red Sea. While God in The Bible: Exodus (2014) is also portrayed as a god who acts out of love and compassion for his people, this is not the case in the other two films which instead portray him in a much more negative light. My conclusion is therefore that these three films do not only differ in how God and Moses are depicted but that they provide us with different messages about God and religion in general.

Återkomst / Golvet är golvet

Matsson, Jan January 2015 (has links)
Material: Mixed media Teknik: Various techniques

Kurbitch!

AHLNÉR, EMELIE January 2013 (has links)
In architecture we usually divide built things into structure or ornament. The same way of thinking can be applied to fashion. First you have a construction (garment) and then you add an ornament, like a way of styling. This works aim to change that relationship. One way of exploring the relation between the two concepts is to subordinate structure under ornament in order to change the hierarchy between form and decoration. Ornaments have in themselves structural elements that can be transformed into construction. My aim is to find these and let them be the bearing structures when augmenting for new shapes and expression with a codependent relationship between the two.The concrete methods of this work have been carried out through experimentation with different perspective on ornamentation in a trial and error process to achieve new expression and potential of ornament. The results are various examples of the design method carried out in different scale and proportions. They show how the method could be used in a structural way to find form and a more pictorial way to build expression. It questions modernistic thinking with its form follow function principle and explores other values such as attraction of the eye and the expression of light reflective materials. It explores the clash between tradition and new material. A new discussion could be raised about what is construction and what is ornamentation, if a separation is needed or even can be done. / Program: Modedesignutbildningen

Film music as a guide in complex temporal narratives : An analysis of the narrative function of Hans Zimmer’s film music in Inception (2010) and Interstellar (2014)

Akkerman, Renske January 2023 (has links)
This thesis analyses Hans Zimmer’s film music in Inception (2010) and Interstellar (2014) that resulted from his collaboration with director Christopher Nolan. The focus lies on the narrative and temporal functions that film music can attain when used in temporal complex narratives. The analysis looks into how time is presented, manipulated, and connected through the music. Three aspects that are examined are: 1) how musical motifs function as a guide for understanding narrative themes, 2) how music gives temporal clarity within a narrative, and 3) how sound design contributes to an understanding of the temporal structure of the narrative. This thesis offers more insight into how music can function temporally, a subject worthy of more academic attention. It concludes that Zimmer’s “minimalistic maximalism” style and his creative process with Nolan are essential to how the music of Inception and Interstellarfunctions.

O romance monstruoso: 2666 de Roberto Bolaño / The monstrous novel: Roberto Bolaño\'s 2666

Xerxenesky, Antônio Carlos Silveira 22 March 2019 (has links)
Regarded as the high point of Chilean writer Roberto Bolaños (1953-2003) oeuvre, the novel 2666, published posthumously in 2004, is divided in five disharmoniously connected parts. In this thesis, I argue that 2666 assimilates different literary genres such as the American realist novel, crime fiction in more that one variant, and finally the bildungsroman. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to a close reading of the novel, analyzing its structure, the narrators modulation and Bolaño\'s stylistic changes in each section, in order to understand how such genres are assimilated. The authors main themes the link between ethic and aesthetic, art and violence are reached through formal analysis, in a constant dialog with other works that belong to genres which Bolaño tries to assimilate. By approaching 2666 this way, many questions are raised regarding two main issues: what sort of novel is 2666? And what does it represent to the literary writing in early 21st century? The book is often classified as encyclopedic and maximalist, and placed side by side with other long American novels; I disagree with those labels, and seek to show how limited they are, reflecting upon the way 2666 rejects common categorical interpretations. Based on connections the novel itself suggests, I establish a link between 2666 and modernist novels that deal with the concept of a total novel. I propose then a diachronic reading that claims that Bolaño recovers what is still possible from the modernist ideology, which gains new meaning in his own poetics, inseparable from the specters of failed utopias, the crisis of humanism, and the ubiquity of late capitalism in all its violence. The connection between 2666 and high modernism, however, is not stable or simple. It is through its gaps, leftovers, excess and disharmony that I develop the concept of a monstrous novel that assimilates other genres and exposes contradictions intrinsical to contemporary poetics.
