A truly integrative Swedish subject? : A study of the exercise culture in the teaching media Känslan för ord.

Larsson, Nina January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to analyze and problematize the content in the teaching media Känslan för ord through an integrative perspective. This is done by using two sets of questions based on two of the didactic questions what and how. How is the content of the Swedish subject constructed in Känslan för ord? and How is this content integrated in Känslan för ord? The used material consists of a fairly large amount of literature which provides different approaches, priorities, and methods about the Swedish subject. This literature forms the base for the model used to analyze the course books. The results are based on an analysis of the exercise culture (uppgiftskultur) in the two books and are extensive. All together the two books contain 866 exercises. The results point to several imperfections in order to become an integrative subject. There is a large play between text comprehension and the rest of the subject’s proficiencies: IT, sociolinguistics, argumentation and critical thinking are represented in a very small amount. A majority of the exercises are non-authentic and the contact with real life is missing. The merits in the teaching media are the text selection that mirrors a great deal of the classical literature as well as the modern literature. These texts often result in the students writing on their own. If the desire is to work with an integrative subject based on the course book Känslan för ord is as good as any.

Mediální obraz fotbalového klubu AC Sparta Praha v deníku Sport po vstupu Czech News Center Daniela Křetínského na mediální trh / Media image of football club AC Sparta Prague in daily Sport after Daniel Křetínský's Czech News Center joined the czech media market

Pěruška, Jan January 2018 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Media Image of AC Sparta Prague in Deník Sport after Daniel Křetínský's Czech News Center joined the Czech Media Market" deals with comparison of the media content of Deník Sport in selected periods. The selected area was chosen because of the company of Daniel Křetínský, who is currently also the owner of AC Sparta Prague, bought the publishing house of Deník Sport. In this thesis is used the media content analysis, which should confirm or disprove the hypothesis, that the content of Deník Sport was changed in 2014 for Sparta Prague. In the theoretical part of this thesis the development of the Czech media ownership after 1989 is described, also the topics of journalistic values and possible ethics problems like conflict of interests are stated. The results of the media analysis should be added in interviews with the Deník Sport's staffers.

Disease Representations in Late Modernity: Lung Cancer Stories in the Canadian Print Media

Berger, Jessica January 2012 (has links)
The following thesis describes and analyses the representation of lung cancer in the Canadian print media. The thesis employs a theoretical framework comprised of Giddens’ theory of reflexivity and Goffman’s theory of framing, to understand the social dynamics of negotiation behind the disease’s portrayal in the media, in a late modern context. Late modernity was defined by institutional reflexivity and a focus on understanding and mitigating risk. The research was conducted through a content analysis and examined quantitative trends that contributed to a subsequent qualitative interpretation. The results show that the coverage of lung cancer decreased over time. The analysis shows a discourse of a biomedical institution that has unsuccessfully controlled the disease, a lack of patient advocacy, particularly among celebrities, and a continued conflation of smoking behaviour and lung cancer, all of which contributed to the decreasing coverage. The framing processes point to a society focused on understanding risk through studying the disease’s causes, as well as one concerned with legislative debate and behavioural prevention. The emergence of a frame focused on the patient’s lived experience might contribute to an improved representation of the disease.

"Deadly Women": Examining (Audio)Visual (Re)Presentations of Violent Women and Girls in Infotainment Media

Scheuneman Scott, Isabel January 2016 (has links)
Women have historically been the subject of stereotypes – especially criminalized women as they are constructed in the mass media. These stereotypes become particularly problematic when they are invoked in infotainment media – a genre that combines information and entertainment and presents itself as primarily factual. As such, ideological messages delivered through infotainment are also (re)presented as truthful and may be more likely to be taken up by an unquestioning audience. This research aimed to answer the following research question: How does infotainment portray women who commit serious violent crime? In order to answer this question, a qualitative content analysis was employed and “Deadly Women”, a televised infotainment series that narrates and re-enacts true crime stories of women who kill, was selected as a case study. The sample consisted of previously identified typologies: mothers who kill their children, women who kill their partners, adolescent girls who kill, and vigilantes who kill their abusers. Stemming from a critical feminist framework, the analysis revealed that Deadly Women relies on two primary trajectories to explain the violence committed by women and girls. While both trajectories emphasized gendered stereotypes that involved emotionality and mental health issues, they were nonetheless distinct. The first trajectory evoked narratives of the ‘emotionless’ and ‘psychopathic’ perpetrator; while the second trajectory characterized the offender as overly ‘emotional’ and ‘depressed’. These trajectories, along with their related variables, problematically (re)presented violent women and girls in simplistic and dualistic manners that served to obscure rather than to clarify the circumstances surrounding their crimes.

Analýza krizové komunikace kauzy: Záměna dětí v třebíčské nemocnici / Analysis of Crisis Communication in the Babies Switched at Birth in the Hospital of Třebíč Case

Böhm, Jiří January 2012 (has links)
The theoretical part of this thesis focuses mainly on crisis communication and its goal is to pinpoint its instruments, principles and regularities. The theoretical part also defines the concept of crisis and offers an adequate guide on what action should management take in individual periods of crisis. Apart from crisis communication and crisis management, it also explains the regularities of media analysis, which is used as an information portfolio for the second, practical part. The result is an evaluation of crisis communication during the events of "babies switched at birth in the hospital of Třebíč" from the hospital's perspective, mostly based on aforementioned media analysis. Adequate recommendations are proposed, based on the results.

Les thèmes et le temps dans Le Monde diplomatique (1990-2008) / Themes and time in Le Monde diplomatique (1990-2008)

Metwally, Heba 11 December 2017 (has links)
Dealing with big data today is becoming a big challenge for scholars who are conducting corpus-based studies. As producing texts spreads normally over time, scholars are interfacing increasingly with chronological corpora. Studying time series deepens our understanding of chronological data and modifies our ideas about the appropriate statistical analysis. The Monde diplomatique is a monthly newspaper distributed worldwide. In 2015, it had 37 editions and was read in 20 languages. As a French international journal offering serious analysis on politics, economics, culture and current affairs, it is an area of interest for several university studies. We aim here to offer a documented analysis of the evolution of its discourse in the aftermath of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and till the end of the Global War on Terror (GWOT).To analyse big corpora that stretch out over time we need to adjust our practices in corpus semantics and statistical data analysis. That is what we propose by using a scale model of a chronological corpus initially composed of more than 5000 articles (ca 11 million text words). A new reduced and authentic model guarantees appropriate approach to different text levels to study meaning over time.
