ABSTRACT Public libraries are characterized as important devices for the democratization of culture, which justified the choice of the theme of mediation to access, use and ownership of information held by this type of library as an object of this descriptive study, the universe of Public Libraries Municipal (BPM) of the State of Bahia. The question sought to answer the research was that the BPM of Bahia have been working in the paradigm of cultural appropriation, performing actions that favor the mediating process of appropriation of informational content by users. Therefore we adopted the method of multiple cases, in order to verify that the BPM of Bahia device act as cultural appropriation, with emphasis on the process of appropriation of information, identifying your settings, making sure that the information practices and favor the process of cultural appropriation of information, as well as recognizing and analyzing their practices interpersonal mediations. The study sample was composed of five municipalities in Bahia (Alagoinhas, Barreiras, Ipirá, Salvador and Serrinha), making a total of six BPM, two of them belonging to the municipality of Salvador. The results allow us to affirm that the BPM of Bahia do not have a cozy ambience and functional, necessary to the comfort of the users. Their repertoires informational bit translate the needs of the local public, not offering access to various media and internet. The workforce is insufficient without proper qualification, which compromises the use of language and the informational quality of interpersonal mediation. These BPM have been restricted to carrying out cultural activities, without providing the conditions for the development of a critical awareness by the subjects. Finally, it was concluded that the BPM of Bahia have not acted from the perspective of the paradigm of cultural appropriation, mediating access, use and ownership information, and yes, the paradigm of library preservation and diffusion limited maintenance the collection and dissemination of information, not the central concern of performing mediation to access, use and ownership information.

Liaison interpreting as intercultural mediation

Oakes, Damian Gerard January 2015 (has links)
The conventional understanding of the liaison interpreter views the professional as a language broker between two or more individuals not speaking the same language. The manner in which this language gap is bridged, according to the conventional understanding, is through copying verbatim what is said in one language (the source language) and pasting it (into the target language). The conventional understanding of the profession and its professionals neglects the multi-faceted nature of the profession along with the many challenges with which its professionals are faced. A liaison interpreter is a professional who forms a bridge between languages, people and culture. When viewed through this lens, new meaning and understanding are gained regarding the work of the liaison interpreter whilst, similarly, unveiling the complexity of the profession. As such, new questions may be raised pertaining to the role of the liaison interpreter in dialogue settings. This mini-dissertation seeks to shed new light on an age old profession whilst unveiling these hidden factors to highlight the benefits of factoring cultural training into interpreter training to better train student interpreters, and equip them with a unique set of skills to assist them in overcoming the unique set of challenges with which liaison interpreters often grapple. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2015. / Modern European Languages / Unrestricted

Mediace ve vztahu k vybraným otázkám rozvodu manželství / Mediation in relation to chosen queries of divorce

Hrbková, Zuzana January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to explain the role of mediation and its possibilities in dealing with questions connected to divorce, focusing on adjustment of child relations after a divorce. It also deals with the use of other methods for adjustment of child relations after divorce which should help with minimalizing negative impacts which are inevitably connected to divorce. It is looking for inspiration in our neighbouring countries: Germany, Austria, and Poland. This thesis is divided into two imaginary parts. The first part includes eight chapters and is dedicated to family and divorce mediation. In the second part, there is analysed adjustment of child care after divorce in the Czech legal system and there are discussed other methods than mediation which can be used for adjustment of child relations after a divorce. At the beginning of the first part, mediation is defined as alternative dispute resolution. After that, there is shortly mentioned its history and development in Europe and the Czech Republic. In the third chapter, family mediation is introduced and its elementary types (i.e. family mediation in a narrow sense and divorce mediation) in Czech terminology are defined while there is also mentioned mediation for the protection of children. This chapter also familiarizes us with specific...

Mediace v ČR / Mediation in the Czech Republic

Geryková, Nella January 2019 (has links)
Mediation in the Czech Republic Abstract This thesis follows mediation as one of the methods of alternative dispute resolutions in the Czech Republic. This thesis is focused on the mediation process; its main aim is to define the phases through which the mediation passes and also the rights and duties of the mediator, their characteristics and their theoretical basis. This thesis is structured into an introduction, four chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter introduces the concepts of mediation and the parties of the conflict, the development of mediation abroad and in the Czech Republic, also defines the types of mediation and the areas of its application, with an emphasis on family mediation. This chapter is also devoted to the relationship between mediation and court proceedings. The end of the opening chapter offers a list of the advantages and the disadvantages of using mediation for settling conflicts, comparing mediation with court proceedings in some aspects and justifying why mediation can be a more attractive alternative for...

Interpersonal Needs and Suicide Risk: Examining Indirect Effects of Internal Hostility and Feeling Forgiven

Berto, Kelley C 01 August 2021 (has links)
Suicide is a national public health concern, and unmet interpersonal needs (i.e., perceived burdensomeness, thwarted belongingness) may contribute to enhanced risk. However, mechanisms of action and certain protective variables are not well understood. The present study examined simple mediation models, with internal hostility as a mechanism of action between interpersonal needs and suicide risk. Additionally, our study examined the moderating role of various aspects of receiving forgiveness on the association between interpersonal needs and internal hostility in these simple mediation models. A community-based convenience sample was surveyed (N=712). Our findings indicated that internal hostility partially mediated the association between perceived burdensomeness/thwarted belongingness and suicide risk, such that higher levels of interpersonal needs variables were associated with higher levels of internal hostility, and in turn, higher levels of suicide risk. No evidence was found for a buffering effect of feeling forgiven on these statistical models. Our findings suggest that negative, internalized self-perception contributes to suicide risk above and beyond that of interpersonal needs alone. Implications are discussed for both theory and practice.
