This master's thesis deals with the metropolitanization and peripherization in two Polish voivodeships and one Czech NUTS 2 region, documents and compares these processes. Firstly, the used indicators are analyzed, metropolitan areas, peripheries and other territories are delimited by the cluster method. Furthermore, the development of parts of the region and, above all, metropolitan areas are dealt with. Other parts of the thesis are focused on commuting relations in metropolitan areas and entire regions. Key words: metropolitanization, peripherization, Czechia, Poland, regionalization

Les stratégies de mondialisation des métropoles : le cas de Toronto, Ontario / Metropolitan areas facing the challenges of globalization, the case of Toronto, OntarioPoiret, Guillaume 05 December 2011 (has links)
Ce travail s’inscrit dans un contexte de mondialisation croissante accompagné d’une importante métropolisation qui tout en concourant au développement de certaines villes qui forment désormais un réseau mondial pilotant l’économie, se trouvent face à un certain nombre de défis de nature diverse (sociale, économique ou environnementale) auxquels elles doivent apporter des réponses. C’est la question de la gouvernance métropolitaine, qui constitue la réponse principale à ces challenges que la thèse se propose d’étudier. Au travers d’une analyse de Toronto, capitale économique du Canada et capitale politique de l’Ontario, dans ses dynamiques économiques et sociales actuelles (notamment les effets du multiculturalisme sur l’attractivité de la métropole) ainsi que dans leurs conséquences politiques et au travers d’une série d’entretiens avec les acteurs locaux et provinciaux, publics et privés, ce travail propose de confronter les théories existantes pour mieux cerner leurs limites. Au terme de cette étude, un regard croisé avec l’agglomération parisienne est proposé pour permettre d’élargir le propos et de justifier la nécessité non d’une gouvernance mais d’une politique métropolitaine, menée à l’échelle nationale pour définir périmètres, acteurs, compétences et enjeux. C’est par le biais de cette politique, mettant en place une institution métropolitaine chargée de gérer les problèmes actuels de métropoles que l’on doit parvenir à conjuguer la nécessaire attractivité économique avec le bien-être des populations. / This study examines the social, economic and environmental challenges facing cities that have emerged as global economic hubs as a result of increased globalization and significant metropolitanization. Of particular interest is the issue of metropolitan governance, which is key to overcoming those challenges and is the focus of this thesis. Through an analysis of the city of Toronto, economic capital of Canada and of Ontario politics, its current economic and social dynamics (including the impact of multiculturalism on the attractiveness of the metropolis) and their political consequences; and through a series of interviews with key players from the local and provincial, as well as public and private sectors, this study will examine the existing theories in order to better define their limits. At the end of this study, the juxtaposition of the Parisian agglomeration is explored in order to further the issue and to justify the need, not of metropolitan governance, but of metropolitan policy, exercised at the national level which will define the scope, the players, the competencies and the stakes. It is through this metropolitan policy, which would implement a metropolitan institution in charge of managing the current problems of metropolises, that we need to coalesce economic attractiveness and population well being.

Previous issue date: 2010 / Thís paper aims to offer an insight into the viability of the metropolitanízation of the Pernambuco's Central Wasteland Regíon. Therefore, ít is presented an initial analysis on the ways of survival of small production centers in the constant and metamorphic process 01' globalization. lt is also shown some processes of regionalization, passíng by its concept to newer forros of this phenomenon, reaching to metropolitanization as an alternative to urban centers to reach a new social, political, economic and cosmopolitan leveI, which best suits its realíty. It is presented here, the current statc of Pernambuco's Central Wasteland Regíon in several respects, especiaIIy on the local economy, which is the drivíng [orce in the region, and the main argument o[ those who defend its metropolítanization. Thereforc, it is necessary to consíder also the recent process of ínternalization of dcvclopment in Brazi!, and in paliicular in the State ofPernambuco. It also made a historical, socio-cconomic and politica! analysis of the main cities in the region, which are Santa Cruz Capibaribc, Toritama and Caruaru, focusing on thc latter, whom by vocation, would be the host cily of thc metropolitan arca of alleged Pernambuco's Central Wasteland Region. Next, it examines the interaction of the cities involved, and the data are compared with the three major metropolitan areas in the interior of the Country, and is drawn a parallel between the eurrent cluster development and the likely benefits of so-called metropolitan area, and finally, analyzed the perception of politicians, on the subject, to present the vision of thís work on the feasibility of metropolitanizatíon in the region studied, and the alternative proposaIs. / Este trabalho tem por finalidade apresentar uma visão sobre a viabilidade da metropolização do Agreste Central de Pernambuco. Para tanto, trata-se aqui de apresentar uma análise inicial sobre o atual estágio da globalização os seus efeitos e formas de sobrevivência dos pequenos centros produtivos neste constante e metamórfico processo. Trata ainda dos processos de regionalização, passando-se pela sua conceituação até as formas mais recentes desse fenômeno, alcançando-se a metropolização como alternativa de centros urbanos para atingir um novo patamar social, político, econômico e cosmopolita, que melhor se adéqua à sua realidade. É apresentada neste trabalho, a situação atual do Agreste Central de Pernambuco, sob diversos aspectos, especialmente quanto à economia local, que é a mola propulsora da região, e o principal argumento daqueles que defendem a sua metropolização. Para tanto, faz se necessário analisar, também, o recente processo de interiorização do desenvolvimento por que passa o Brasil, e, em especial, o Estado de Pernambuco. É feita, ainda, uma avaliação histórica, sócio-econômica e política das principais cidades desta região, que são Santa Cruz do Capibaribe, Toritama e Caruaru, com foco nesta última, que, por vocação, seria a cidade sede da pretensa Região Metropolitana do Agreste Central de Pernambuco. Em seguida, é feita uma análise de interação das cidades envolvidas, e os dados são comparados com as três principais regiões metropolitanas do interior do País. É traçado um paralelo entre o atual pólo de desenvolvimento e os prováveis benefícios da pretensa região metropolitana, c, por fim, analisada a percepção dos Agentes Políticos, sobre o tema, para se apresentar a visão deste trabalho sobre a viabilidade da metropolização da região estudada, c as propostas alternativas.

Previous issue date: 2010-02-24 / The focus is to analyze the formation process of the house condominiums in the city of Itatiba, in S?o Paulo state, which is explained by the metropolitanization phenomenon. This dynamic produces a spatial organization, territorially scattered of the low density urban tissue, which results in, among other consequences, the increase of the urbanization costs, a fragmented city, loss of cultural identity, related to the use of the city, etc. In this perspective has been observed, from the mid 1970 s, the proliferation of the house condominiums construction, as cause and effect of the contemporary urbanization, identified by the paulista metropolitanization. The factors that can explain this dynamic are related, at least, to: 1) land s value, relatively low if compared to other locations in similar context and near Itatiba; 2) advertising and marketing strategies which produce a urban violence scene, non-existent in cities in the mentioned proportions, and relating living in house condominiums to the idea of security; 3) proximity to great metropolitan centers, which generate commercial, industrial and especially services economic flow; 4) the offer of one of the most modern road systems of the country; and, 5) a scene that is predominantly rural and connected to the expectation of a healthy way of life. The analyzed case also reveals, in great manner, evidences of the support that the city s legislation guarantee to the approval and legalization of this sort of state enterprise. / O foco ? an?lise do processo de forma??o dos condom?nios residenciais fechados no munic?pio de Itatiba, estado de S?o Paulo, explicado por meio do fen?meno da metropoliza??o. Essa din?mica produz uma organiza??o espacial do tecido urbano de baixa densidade e territorialmente dispersa, que resulta, entre outras consequ?ncias, o aumento dos custos de urbaniza??o, uma cidade fragmentada, perda da identidade cultural relacionadas aos h?bitos de uso da cidade, etc. Nesta perspectiva ? que se observou, a partir de meados dos anos 1970, a prolifera??o da constru??o de condom?nios residenciais fechados, como causa e efeito do processo de urbaniza??o contempor?nea, identificado pela metropoliza??o paulista. Os fatores que podem explicar essa din?mica est?o relacionados, pelo menos, ao seguinte: 1) valor da terra, relativamente baixo se comparado a outras localidades em contextos semelhantes e pr?ximos a Itatiba; 2) estrat?gias de propaganda e markenting que produzem um quadro de viol?ncia urbana inexistente na cidade nas propor??es anunciadas e relacionando a moradia em condom?nios fechados a id?ia de seguran?a; 3) proximidade a grandes centros metropolitanos geradores de fluxos econ?micos comerciais, industriais e, especialmente, de servi?os; 4) oferta de um dos mais modernos sistemas vi?rios do pa?s; e, 5) paisagem predominantemente rural atrelada ?s expectativas de um modo de vida saud?vel. O caso analisado tamb?m revela de maneira exemplar evid?ncias do respaldo que a legisla??o municipal garante ? aprova??o e legaliza??o dessa forma de empreendimento imobili?rio.
