It has cosmopolitan distribution and is well represented in most terrestrial environments. In this study, specimens belonging to the Leguminosae family were collected in the northwest region of São Paulo State in order to improve the knowledge on the State flora and minimize the effects of nonuniform collections. Although in the past such region was mainly covered with semi-deciduous seasonal forest and cerrado, nowadays it is restricted to 4% of its original area, constituting thus one of the most fragmented and least known regions in the State. Arbustive and arboreous individuals were collected from 10 fragments of variable sizes and vegetation formations. Fifty-two species belonging to 27 genera were identified. The subfamily Papilionoideae was the most representative, with 20 species, followed by Caesalpinioideae and Mimosoideae with 16 species. The results were organized in two chapters: the first one presents the occurrence of species in different fragments, an identification key for the northwest region mainly based on vegetative characteristics, data on their general distribution and occurrence in the region relative to the already known information, besides a discussion about their inclusion in lists of rare species, highlighting ecological aspects that can support conservational actions; the second chapter constitutes the taxonomic treatment itself, with identification keys and descriptions for the genera and species of each subfamily, besides information on distribution, phenology and taxonomy, as well as figures to illustrate reproductive or vegetative structures and/or species

Flórula fanerogâmica das restingas do Estado do Pará: leguminosae-mimosoideae

SOUSA, Júlio dos Santos de January 2008 (has links)
This study deals with the taxonomic treatment of Mimosoideae in the coastal sandbanks of Pará State, since they are poorly known under that aspect. The methodology includes the analysis of botanical material originated from new collections and specimens from the herbaria MG and IAN, beyond specialized literature. In the results, identification key, descriptions, and illustrations of the taxa are given, as well as further data concerning geographical distribution, additional comments, flowering and fructification period, and habitat of the species. The fruit was the character of larger prominence in the separation of taxa. The results pointed out the presence of seven species {Calliandra surinamensis Benth. Chloroleucon acacioides (Ducke) Barneby & J. W. Grimes, Inga cayennensis Sagot ex Benth., Inga heterophylla Willd., Ingapilosula (Rich.) J.F. Macbr., Inga splendens Willd. and Mimosa candollei R. Grether), three varieties {Aharema cochleata (Willd.) Barneby & Grimes var. cochleata, Entadapolystachya (L.) DC. var. Polystachya and Mimosapudica var. unijuga (Walp. & Duchass.) Griseb.) and one subspecie {Inga thibaudiana DC. subsp. thihandiand), distributed in six genera and two tribes. Inga cayennensis, Inga thibaudiana subsp. thibaudiana e Mimosa candollei are new records for the sand coast of Pará. The genus Inga Mill. was the most representative with five species. Entada polystachya var. polystachya and specially Chloroleucon acacioides presented the widest distribution, and forest formation was the ecosystem which had the largest number of species. J.F. / The biome Caatinga is one of three main open ecosystems of South America, rep-resenting an environment of potential source of new molecules. Among molecules characterized this biome presented antioxidant activity that helps to fight free radicals, reducing oxidative stress. Studies shown that the antioxidants present in the market are of synthetic origin, and large part is related to toxic effects caused by prolonged use. This fact driving the search for new natural products antioxidants. The present study investigate the antioxidant activity of methanol extracts of three species of plants found in the Caatinga: Abarema cochliocarpos (AC), Stryphnodendron pulcherrimum (SP) and Tanaecium xanthophyllum (TX), for in vitro methodologies: DPPH assay, ABTS, Fosfomolibdênio (capacity total antioxidant - CAT), the oxidation of ions by FRAP and The Power Reducing. Moreover, the phytochemical investigation of extracts and total phenols and flavonoids were measured by HPLC analysis and Folin Chateau, respec-tively. The cytotoxic effect of extracts was observed against tumor cells and erythrocytes of human. The phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of saponines, tannins, terpenoid and glicosides for all extracts, but only pholabatannis was found in CA and CT, and anthraquinone in CT. Finally, the presence of alkaloids was not evidenced in the extracts. Total phenols and flavonoids of extracts ranged from 97.13 to 112.39 (mg GAE. G-1 extract) and 23.54 to 28.96 (mg EQ. G-1 extract), respectively. The IC50 values of DPPH radical scavenging activity ranged from 0.457 to 1.162 g / ml. For the radical sequestration ABTS, IC50 values ranger from 244.2 to 281.1, and the percentage of total antioxidant capacity (% CAT) from 11.50 to 24.38%. The iron ion reduction activity by FRAP method was between 477.78 and 850.89 mg / mL, and for reducing power activity indicated an absorbance of 1.4 by SP extract followed 1.1 and 0.89 by AC and CT extracts, respectively, the absorbance of quercetin control was 1.0. The cytotoxic analysis in human erythrocytes and against tumor cells revealed not cytotoxic action of extracts. Therefore the present study revealed a key role of phenolic compounds in the antioxidant activity of the extracts studied. Although, more studies are needed to isolate these compounds, to better characterize them, as well as the realization of antioxidant activities in vivo tests.

Borges, Leonardo Maurici 16 April 2010 (has links)
The study of Leguminosae Mimosoideae is part of the project Flora of Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brazil, which aims to provide identifcation keys, illustrations, comments on geographic distribution and phenology to genera and species from this region. Desenvolvimento floral de Parkia multijuga e Stryphnodendron adstringens, espécies andromonoicas de Leguminosae (Mimosoideae) / Floral development of Parkia multijuga and Stryphnodendron adstringens, andromonoecious legumes (Leguminosae, Mimosoideae)

Pedersoli, Giseli Donizete 31 July 2013 (has links)
Diclinous flowers originate by functional/structural absence of one of the reproductive whorls, from the inception or by abortion in the development. This study aims to compare the floral development of two andromonoecious legumes, Parkia multijuga and Stryphnodendron adstringens, in order to verify which process acts in the staminate flower formation (carpel absence from inception or by abortion). Flowers and flower buds of various sizes were collected and processed for observations in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy (LM). The development of floral organs begins with the emergence of five sepal primordia in the floral meristem from the abaxial side (P. multijuga) and from the adaxial side (S. adstringens) in which in some buds, a sixth primordia arises late; five petal primordial simultaneously in P. multijuga and bidirectionally in S. adstringens, a carpel primordium emergence concomitantly to five antesepalous stamens primordia in P. multijuga, and after the petal formation in S. adstringens, and five antepetalous stamen primordium. In the final stages of the development, the stamens initiated in two whorls, one outer (antesepalous) and the other innermost (antepetalous), are arranged in a single whorl. However, the antesepalous stamens, which emerged first, are a little more elongated than the antepetalous ones. In P. multijuga the fillets join in the base while its elongation, forming a tube, which thereafter becomes adnate to the petals. In hermaphrodite flowers, in both species, the carpel primordium emerges, stretches, the carpel cleft closes and, soon after, the style begins its differentiation. In staminate flowers, the carpel primordium begins and stretches, but the carpel cleft does not close and the carpel does not end its development. In the mature stage, the hermaphrodite flowers present fully differentiated stigmas, while in the staminate flowers, the carpel primordium remains as a rudiment at the base of the bud. In this case, there is no initiation of any ovule. We conclude that staminate flowers in both species arise by carpel abortion and not from inception, alike the other members of Mimosoideae.

Purification and investigation of the physical-chemical protease inhibitors properties from acacia plumosa lowe seeds.

Lopes, José Luiz de Souza 24 March 2006 (has links)
Seeds of plants belonging to Leguminosae family are rich sources of protease inhibitors. The Acacia genus is one of the most important members of this group. In this work, novel protease inhibitors from Acacia plumose Lowe seeds have been described. From the saline extract of mature seeds, the inhibitors were purified by size exclusion chromatography on Superdex-75 column (equilibrated and eluted with PBS) and ionic exchange chromatography on Mono-S column, equilibrated and eluted with Sodium Acetate 50 mM (pH 5.0) in a linear gradient of NaCl 0-0.5M. Four fractions (eluted around 0.18, 0.22, 0.33 and 0.37 M of NaCl) presented anticoagulant activity and inhibitory action on serineprotease, these fractions were denoted ApTIA, ApTIB, ApTIC and ApTID, respectively. In native conditions, mass spectrometry showed the molecular weights of three of them (A, B and C): 19,709; 19,869 and 20,378 Daltons, while in SDS-PAGE in ?-mercaptoethanol presence, two chains for each inhibitor were observed. The N-terminal analysis of the first 10 amino acid residues of both chains of the isoforms A, B, and C revealed identity with Kunitz protease inhibitors and also showed two different residues in ApTIC, comparing with A and B isoforms. These data indicate that the inhibitors are different isoforms present in this seeds. The circular dichroism spectra were compatible with proteins that majority present unordered and beta-elements in these structures, presenting positive maxima around 230 nm and minima about 202 nm. The three isonhibitors were very stable at acids and alkalines pH, and their structures are only affected over 75ºC. The association (KA) and dissociation constants (KD) determined by SPR (BIACORE system) with proteolytic enzymes indicated that the affinity of these inhibitors for trypsin was up to 20 times bigger than for chymotrypsin (trypsin: KA 2.57x109 M-1 and chymotrypsin: KA 1.37x108 M-1), and the complex inhibitor-trypsin showed higher stability (trypsin: KD around 0,5 nM and chymotrypsin: 6 nM). These inhibitors also presented inhibitory action on the fungi growth of Aspergillus niger, Thielaviopsis paradoxa, Colletotrichum sp P10 e Fusarium moniliforme showing that probably the inhibition of their serineproteases can be a mechanism of control of their proliferation.

Revisão taxonômica e estudos filogenéticos de Mimosa L. sect. Calothamnos Barneby (Leguminosae-Mimosoideae) / Taxonomicrevision and phylogenetic studies of Mimosa L. sect Calothamnos Barneby

Coutinho, Ana Paula Savassi 03 December 2009 (has links)
REVISÃO TAXONÔMICA E ESTUDOS FILOGENÉTICOS DE Mimosa L. sect. Calothamnos Barneby (Leguminosae-Mimosoideae). / TAXONOMIC REVISION AND PHYLOGENETIC STUDIES OF Mimosa L. sect. Calothamnos Barneby (Leguminosae-Mimosoideae). Mimosa is the second largest genus of Mimosoideae, after Acacia s.l., with about 530 species, mainly distributed in the Neotropics in diferent types of vegetations, from forests to deserts. Traditionally, the genus was divided into five sections: Mimosa sect. Mimadenia, Mimosa sect. Batocaulon, Mimosa sect. Habbasia, Mimosa sect. Mimosa e Mimosa sect. Calothamnos, mainly based on the presence or absence of petiolar nectaries, on the kind of trichomes and on floral characteristics. Mimosa sect. Calothamnos is caracterized by the absence of petiolar nectaries, the presence of different types of branched trichomes covering vegetative and reproductive structures (except calyx and androecium) and by the tetramerous and isostemonous flowers with often yellow filaments (white or pink in some species). This group, with a high degree of endemism, is distributed mainly in the Southeastern (generally in Espinhaço Range, Minas Gerais) and South Brazilian regions, with some species extending into bordering countries, usually associated with open areas such as Campos Rupestres or Estepes, but with some species in Floresta Ombrófila Mista. The aims of the present study were to carry out a taxonomic revision and a phylogenetic approach of Mimosa sect. Calothamnos, in order to asnwer the following questions: 1) Is the number of taxa recognized in the section an overestimate?; 2) Is Mimosa sect. Calothamnos, as traditionally circunscribed, a monophyletic group? and 3) Are yellow stamen filaments and branched trichomes synapomorphic characthers of the section? The taxonomic revision was based on bibliographical survey, examination of about 2000 specimens from the Brazilian and foreign herbaria and on field expeditions. The phylogenetic reconstruction was carried out by parsinomy and bayesian analyses, based on molecular markers from cloroplast (trnH-psbA and rps16), nuclear (ITS) and morphological characters. Some modifications related to the traditional classification were proposed, such as infraspecific rearrangements, synonimizations and nomenclatural adequation. Besides this, seven lectotypes were designated and three new species were described, resulting in a larger number of the species, from 26 (34 taxons) to 32 (35 taxons). In the phylogenetics analyses based on combined data, Mimosa sect. Calothamnos is highly supported as monophyletic, with some morphological synapomorphies such as the presence of sessile stellate trichomes in the lower surface of the leaflets, corolla and fruits.
