Abordagem analítica para vibrações transversais de vigas multi-segmentadas com seção transversal contínua / Analytical approach for transverse vibrations of multistep beams with continuous cross sectiox

Jacomini, Nelson January 2002 (has links)
In this work, it is proposed an analytical approach for the modal determination of various configurations of Euler-Bernoulli bearns with continuous crosssection properties constrained with classical and non-classical boundary conditions. The proposed approach is based on normal conditions for the solutions of the modal equation, yielding a modal formula associated with mathematical and physical properties of the beam. For the mono-segmented case it is not required tbe use of computer for the modal determination. The modes of the various types of beam considered can be expressed in terms of Bessel, triangular and hyperbolic functions. For illustration, it is presented a case of fourth-order polynomial-type flexural stiffness and linear mass.

The construction of meanings passes, implicitly, by multimodal constructions. The objective existence of things is multimodal. It is not conceivable the idea that an object is expressed by means of only one Mode - several Modes are required, several syntactic layers (stimuli) are necessary to obtain certain semantics (meaning). The existence of these various Modes is the extreme opposite to the incessant search for relevance by the human mind: it always adapts to the world it’s inserted through the selection of stimuli that are relevant to signification. The work here presented sets ways towards a Multimodal InformationArchitecturethatpresentspossiblestrategiesfordesigningmodelsofrepresentation of the necessary aspects for constructing meaning through selection of stimuli, joining the various Modes by means of logical constructions that make it possible to express the form of interaction between a Subject who perceives an Object. In this sense, modal logic contributes to the qualification of truths, and it is no longer imperative that an proposition be qualified as true or false: it may be possible, when one becomes aware that there is a configuration of World that makes it true; or necessary, when all possible Worlds settings make it true. From the union of signification Modes and Logical Modalities and Relations, is set a path to a Multimodal Information Architecture.

The analysis of the dynamical behaviour of structures is an indispensable for the design engineer. The present work brings as a contribution to this field, a time domain modal parameters identification procedure. The identification algorithm estimates the system's modal characteristics, that is, natural frequencies and damping as well as mode shapes . The methodology uses single-input multi-output dynamical information in the time domain. Different signal processing and numerical techniques have been employed and developed within the identification algorithm. The algorithm is applied in the experimental identification of an oil suction pipe of a Diesel engine / Mestrado / Mecanica dos Solidos / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica

Caroca Gaete, José Luis January 2012 (has links)

Comparison of added mass modelling for ships

Yang, James January 1990 (has links)
This thesis presents a comparison of added mass modeling techniques that may be used to determine the the vibration response characteristics of ships in water. The mathematical treatment of added mass is reviewed, and a number of numerical approaches are discussed. Experiments to determine the natural frequencies of a ship model in air and in water were performed and were compared with the results obtained from the numerical approaches. It will be shown in this thesis that the use of modal analysis to predict ship vibration responses in water is a satisfactory and less time consuming alternative to a full eigenvalue solution. / Applied Science, Faculty of / Mechanical Engineering, Department of / Graduate

Joints and connections

Fischer, Seth Gavin 29 March 2010 (has links)
Istanbul is a city on the water and historically has been a link between East and West. Unlike most cities, ferry boats are one of the most commonly used means of travel, along with rail and bus lines. There is a contrast between the grandeur of the historic buildings as seen from the water and the unpleasantness of disembarking from the ferry, which berths at a small shed-like structure on the edge of the water which has old tires attached to piles driven into the bank of the Golden Horn. Some distance away there is a bus terminal and train stop. The paths of travel between these are unclear and the area is chaotic. Architecture has the potential to join and connect people, physical forces, the past and present at various scales. This project seeks to accomplish this connection on a particular site by building a new structure out in the water as a central focal point and joining it to rail and bus links with a tunnel and elevated covered walkways. / Master of Architecture

Design, Analysis, Fabrication, and Testing of a Nanosatellite Structure

Stevens, Craig L. 30 May 2002 (has links)
The satellite industry is undergoing a transition toward "smallsat" engineering. Small satellites are becoming more attractive to customers as a method of decreasing cost. As the launch costs remain relatively constant, the industry is turning towards nano-technology, such as microelectromechanical systems, and distributed satellite systems to perform the same missions that once required super-satellites. Nanosatellites form one group of these high risk/low cost spacecraft. The Virginia Tech Ionospheric Scintillation Measurement Mission, known as HokieSat, is a 40 lb nanosatellite being designed and built by graduate and undergraduate students. The satellite is part of the Ionospheric Observation Nanosatellite Formation (ION-F) which will perform ionospheric measurements and conduct formation flying experiments. This thesis describes the design of the primary satellite structure, the analysis used to arrive at the design, the fabrication of the structure, and the experimentation used to verify the analysis. We also describe the internal and external configurations of the spacecraft and how we estimate the mass properties of the integrated satellite. The design of the spacecraft uses a composite laminate isogrid structure as a method of structural optimization. This optimization method is shown to increase the structural performance by over 20%. We conduct several finite element analyses to verify the structural integrity. We correlate these analyses with several static and modal tests to verify the models and the model boundary conditions. We perform environmental testing on the integrated spacecraft at NASA Wallops Flight Facility to investigate the properties of the structural assembly. Finally, we create a model of the ION-F stack to verify the integrity of the structure at the launch loads. We prove that the HokieSat structure will survive all environmental loads with no yielding or failures. / Master of Science
