Orientador: Susani Silveira Lemos França / Resumo: Ao longo do século XV, entre curiosos e conquistadores ligados a Portugal, houve um número significativo de letrados que se ocupou em falar sobre as coisas da África. Os relatos dessas viagens, escritos com o intuito primordial de levar informações para os reis cristãos, tinham se tornado um modo de traduzir os novos mundos, ora enfatizando as estranhezas, ora lançando luz sobre traços que consideravam comuns, ou melhor, sobre aquilo que nos africanos não propriamente os distinguia dos povos dos reinos cristãos. Tendo isso em vista, a proposta da presente pesquisa consiste em examinar, nesses escritos, não apenas o que causou assombro, mas os parâmetros daquilo que, quando as viagens se tornaram mais frequentes, repetidas e demoradas, passou a ser compreendido e julgado comum ou familiar. Em suma, serão interrogados e confrontados valores e hábitos reconhecidos como partilhados entre os dois continentes: Europa e África. Com ênfase sobre as menções que os viajantes fizeram às práticas mais comezinhas da vida – comer, habitar, vestir e demonstrar sentimentos –, a pesquisa examina as páginas dos relatos dedicadas a conhecer aquelas gentes que, notadas a princípio por suas diferenças, não se mostraram depois tão estranhas aos cristãos. / Abstract: Throughout the fifteenth century, among curious and conquerors related to Portugal, there were a significant number of littered people, who were interested about things of Africa. The reports of these journeys, written primarily for the purpose of bringing information to the Christian kings, had become a way of translating new worlds, sometimes emphasizing strangeness, sometimes shedding light on traits that they considered common, or rather, on what in Africans did not properly distinguish them of the peoples of the Christian kingdoms. In view of this, the purpose of the present research is to examine in these writings not only what caused astonishment, but the parameters of what, when travel became more frequent, repeated and time consuming, came to be understood and judged common or familiar. In short, values and habits recognized as shared between the two continents, Europe and Africa, will be questioned and confronted. With an emphasis on travelers' mentions of life's tiniest practices - eating, living, dressing, and expressing feelings - the research examines the pages of stories devoted to meeting those people who, noted at first for their differences, were not then so strange to Christians. / Mestre

O estudo introdutório, intitulado O homem e o cão, propõe uma interpretação da construção ética da personagem do médico e, conseqüentemente, do próprio ethos do poeta, definido em oposição ao caráter do seu adversário. A partir da caracterização do médico, Petrarca combate o aristotelismo dos mestres de artes de Paris, reafirma o valor de uma sabedoria moral cristã, fundada num costume filosófico que define a filosofia como meditação sobre a morte, e estabelece a si mesmo como modelo de virtude / Abstract: This research intends to offer the first Portuguese translation of Francesco Petrarch¿s Latin work Invective contra medicum, followed by notes from a study about the text, and two appendices that comprise the translation of the preface written by the Paris¿ bishop at the time, Etienne Tempier, to the Condemnation Syllabus of 1277, and the translation of some articles mentioned by Petrarch in these invectives. The introductory study, named The man and the dog, proposes an interpretation of the physician¿s ethical construction and, consequently, of the poet¿s ethos itself, defined in opposition to his adversary¿s character. Fundação de Apoio a Pesquisa e à Inovação Tecnológica do Estado de Sergipe - FAPITEC/SE / Cinema by its very nature abstracts people from reality. It provokes rush and nourishes tensions. In this sense, institutions organized around a faith, such as the Catholic Church, since the beginning of the twentieth century, saw in the cinemas their exhibited content and their social impacts as places that needed to undergo moral vigilance, under pain of their members become perverted by reason of contact with films that were not suited to their creed. Considering the presence of three cinematographic exhibition halls in Palmeira dos Índios-AL, during the 1950s and 1970s, we aimed to understand the Church's position in relation to them, analyzing the relationship between cinema and Christian morality, from a perspective of the history of the place and its transversality with cultural history. Based on the study of the reception of films linked to catholic interference, we tried to understand how the frequency with the cinemas influenced the daily life of the people and acted in the social formation of people of Palmeira dos Índios city. Based on the premises of Cultural History, we analyze the documentation that includes, mainly, the Catholic Newspaper O Semeador and the Juventude Palmeirense Journal, which contains articles criticizing the movies as well as periodicals, official documents, films exhibited at the time and other records. The results of the research point to the dissemination of the influence exerted by the Catholic Church in relation to the films and the public that attended the exhibition rooms in Palmeira dos Índios, Alagoas, evidencing its vigilant and moralizing attitude to society. / O cinema, por natureza, abstrai as pessoas da realidade. Provoca arroubos e alimenta tensões. Nesse sentido, instituições organizadas em torno de uma fé, a exemplo da Igreja Católica, desde o início do século XX, viam nas salas de cinema, seu conteúdo exibido e seus impactos sociais, como lugares que precisavam sofrer uma vigilância moral, sob pena de seus membros se tornarem pervertidos em razão do contato com filmes que não fossem adequados ao seu credo. Considerando a presença de três salas de exibição cinematográfica em Palmeira dos Índios-AL, durante as décadas de 1950- 1970, visamos entender a postura da Igreja em relação a elas, analisando a relação entre o cinema e moral cristã, numa perspectiva da história do lugar e sua transversalidade com a história cultural. A partir do estudo da recepção das películas atrelando à interferência católica, procuramos compreender como a frequência aos cines influenciou no cotidiano das pessoas e atuou na formação social palmeirense. Tendo como embasamento as premissas da História Cultural, analisamos a documentação que inclui, principalmente, o Jornal Católico O Semeador e o Jornal Juventude Palmeirense os quais contém artigos tecendo críticas ao cinema bem como periódicos, documentos oficiais, filmes exibidos na época e outros registros. Os resultados da pesquisa apontam para a disseminação da influência exercida pela Igreja Católica em relação aos filmes exibidos e ao público que frequentavam as salas de exibição em Palmeira dos Índios-AL, evidenciando sua postura vigilante e moralizadora à sociedade. / São Cristóvão, SE
