Factors Affecting Public Support for Energy-Saving and Carbon-Reduction Policies

Lin, Tzu-ting 09 August 2011 (has links)
To lessen the threats of global climate change, governments have to set and enforce robust polices to save energy and reduce greenhouse gases. But will the public support these policies? And what cognitive factors will affect the public's support? To answer these two questions, this study surveyed a convenience sample consisted of 171 Taichung citizens and 132 Kaohsiung citizens. The survey questionnaire asked questions for 2 variables about the threats of climate change and 5 variables about carbon reducing policies. The variables were vulnerability, severity, personal benefit, social benefit, response efficacy, self-efficacy, and response cost. All these were cognitive variables based on Rogers' (1983) protection motivation theory. The latter 5 variables were assessed for each of the 3 policies mentioned in the questionnaire. The policies were (a) rebate on electric bills for energy saving; (b) energy tax; and (c) ordering public places to keep temperatures above 26 degrees Celsius in summer. Results showed that though respondents moderately supported energy taxation policy, this policy was the least welcomed. Further, personal benefit, social benefit and self-efficacy had significant effects on all three policies. In contrast, perceived vulnerability to climate threats and response cost (policy-induced personal cost) had no effect on any of the policies. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Motivation Mechanisms and Member Loyalty in Virtual Communities : An Exploratory Study of On-line Games

Lin, Shu-yi 27 August 2009 (has links)
The study investigates whether different motivation mechanisms can affect the quality of relationship and member loyalty of virtual communities. The particular domain is online games on which players often join affiliated virtual communities to exchange information. A questionnaire was designed for the online survey that resulted in a total of 685 valid responses. The results from the partial least square analysis show that relationship quality as measured by Customer satisfaction, trust and commitment have a mediating effect between motivation mechanisms and member loyalty. Among the motivation mechanisms, financial bonds have no effect on relationship quality but social and structural bonds have significant effects. The findings can be used by practitioners when they run virtual communities and have implications for future research in related topics.

Internkommunikation och motivation : En fallstudie i ett tjänsteföretag / Internal communication and motivation

Forsman, Marie, Zivkovic, Jovana January 2014 (has links)
Humans have for our entire existence communicated with each other in one way or another. Communication is a constantly ongoing social phenomenon which includes much more than just words. Body language such as looks, clothes, tone and gestures contains amounts of communicative messages and to know exactly how each of us interprets various combinations of these is impossible. Perhaps that is exactly what has encouraged people of all ages to try and master the art of effective communication. In modern organizations communication has become an important success factor for competition and survival. Traditionally the focus has been the external communication with stakeholders outside the organization. However, the interest for internal communication, which takes place between employees in the organization, has grown stronger. Employee motivation also has emerged as an organizational concept since it has been linked to job performance. To reach the purpose of the study; "Whether the internal communication is important to motivate employees”, we used the following questions: Can internal communication be connected to motivation amongst employees? Can a working party with a large number of employees pursue common goals through intern communication? The study was conducted using a qualitative research approach, through a case study on PostNord Logistics terminal in Veddesta. We observed work practices and interviewed two branch managers and two drivers. A survey was also conducted with a group of drivers to check the generalizability of the interviews. Theories of relevance were selected to be matched with our results. The results confirmed what previous studies proved; that internal communication affects the level of motivation of employees, and that this factor cannot be overlooked.
