<p>Natural stress and disturbances are important factors affecting the structure and function of ecosystems. However the magnitude of stress has escalated due to anthropogenic activities. Environmental monitoring and toxicity assessments try to protect ecosystems from unwanted human alterations. The aim of this Doctoral thesis was to increase the understanding of the complex effects that environmental stress has on individuals and invertebrate populations. The low saline environment in the Baltic Sea is perceived as stressful for most organisms living there. In Paper I, it was found that Baltic blue mussels living in the less saline northern Baltic Proper (~5 psu) had lower basal metabolism and were more susceptible to toxic exposure than the mussels in the south (~7 psu). There was no genetic differentiation between the mussels from the northern and southern areas while there were genetic differences between mussels from sites within the respective areas (Paper III), indicating that there is not a simple relationship between the health of the mussels and genetic diversity in the microsatellite loci studied. In Paper IV it was found that the heat tolerance of the intertidal dogwhelk <i>Nucella lapillus</i> is oxygen dependent. Increased oxygen levels resulted in higher survival rate. Protein expression profiles also became more similar to those of the controls, compared to the whelks exposed to high temperature and normal oxygen levels. In Paper V and VI it was found that exposure to a single toxicant for more than one generation decreased the genetic diversity in exposed copepod populations even though abundances remained unaltered. In Paper VI, exposure to naturally contaminated sediments, which contained of a mixture of toxicants, did not decrease genetic diversity. However the genetic divergence (<i>F</i><i>ST</i>) within the treatments was very high, probably due to small effective population sizes in the replicates. Likewise in Paper III, the very low blue mussel abundance in the north together with the stressful environment suggests a small effective population in the northern Baltic Proper. In conclusion, my studies show that, measuring effects on several levels, including both functional and structural endpoints will both increase the sensitivity of the tests and increase their ecological relevance. </p>

Pour une approche écosystémique de la stratégie et la performance des incubateurs / Towards an ecosystem approach of incubators strategy and performanceTheodoraki, Christina 28 November 2017 (has links)
Cette thèse s’inscrit au croisement de l’entrepreneuriat et du management stratégique. Elle contribue à l’émergence d’un nouveau courant qui s’inspire de l’approche écosystémique et qui vise à mieux comprendre le rôle du contexte sur les dynamiques entrepreneuriales. Son objectif est plus précisément une meilleure compréhension des stratégies des incubateurs dans l'écosystème entrepreneurial. Cette recherche s'intéresse également à la relation entre ces stratégies et la performance des incubateurs. La thèse sur travaux s’articule autour de quatre articles et s’appuie sur une méthodologie mixte séquentielle combinant des méthodes qualitatives et quantitatives. Une étude qualitative a été menée auprès de 48 acteurs de l’écosystème de l’accompagnement entrepreneurial du Sud de la France. Cette recherche a été prolongée par une enquête quantitative conduite au niveau national en récoltant 156 questionnaires auprès de directeurs d’incubateurs. La contribution conceptuelle majeure repose sur une théorisation de l’écosystème entrepreneurial à partir de l’approche multi-niveaux et de la théorie du capital social. De plus, elle offre une vision holistique des stratégies des incubateurs en privilégiant une approche en termes de co-opétition. Enfin, elle permet de tester le lien entre l’écosystème, la stratégie et la performance. Nos résultats montrent des effets positifs de la stratégie de co-opétition sur la performance. La mise en œuvre de cette stratégie apparaît comme l’une des conditions pour construire un écosystème entrepreneurial durable. Des implications et recommandations sont formulées et aboutissent notamment à l’élaboration d’un plan d’action stratégique pour les acteurs de l’écosystème entrepreneurial. / This thesis is at the intersection of entrepreneurship and strategic management. It contributes to the emergence of a new theoretical steam inspired by the ecosystem approach and which aims to better understand the role of the context on the entrepreneurial dynamics. Its objective is more precisely a better understanding of incubator strategies in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This research also addresses the relationship between these strategies and the incubators performance. The thesis by publication is structured around four articles and is based on a mixed sequential methodology combining qualitative and quantitative methods. A qualitative study was carried out among 48 actors in the entrepreneurial support ecosystem in the South of France. This research was extended by a quantitative survey conducted at the national level, collecting 156 questionnaires from incubator managers. The major conceptual contribution carries on a theorization of the entrepreneurial ecosystem based on multilevel approach and social capital theory. In addition, it provides a holistic view of incubator strategies by focusing on a co-opetition approach. Finally, it allows to test the link between the ecosystem, the strategy and the performance. Our results show positive effects of the co-opetition strategy on performance. Implementation of this strategy appears to be one of the conditions for building a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem. Implications and recommendations are formulated, leading in particular to the elaboration of a strategic action plan for the actors of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Numerical and modeling methods for multi-level large eddy simulations of turbulent flows in complex geometries / Modélisation et méthodes numériques pour la simulation aux grandes échelles muti-niveaux des écoulements turbulents dans des géométries complexesLegrand, Nicolas 13 December 2017 (has links)
La simulation aux grandes échelles est devenue un outil d’analyse incontournable pour l’étude des écoulements turbulents dans des géométries complexes. Cependant, à cause de l’augmentation constante des ressources de calcul, le traitement des grandes quantités de données générées par les simulations hautement résolues est devenu un véritable défi qu’il n’est plus possible de relever avec des outils traditionnels. En mécanique des fluides numérique, cette problématique émergente soulève les mêmes questions que celles communément rencontrées en informatique avec des données massives. A ce sujet, certaines méthodes ont déjà été développées telles que le partitionnement et l’ordonnancement des données ou bien encore le traitement en parallèle mais restent insuffisantes pour les simulations numériques modernes. Ainsi, l’objectif de cette thèse est de proposer de nouveaux formalismes permettant de contourner le problème de volume de données en vue des futurs calculs exaflopiques que l’informatique devrait atteindre en 2020. A cette fin, une méthode massivement parallèle de co-traitement, adaptée au formalisme non-structuré, a été développée afin d’extraire les grandes structures des écoulements turbulents. Son principe consiste à introduire une série de grilles de plus en plus grossières réduisant ainsi la quantité de données à traiter tout en gardant intactes les structures cohérentes d’intérêt. Les données sont transférées d’une grille à une autre grâce à l’utilisation de filtres et de méthodes d’interpolation d’ordre élevé. L’efficacité de cette méthodologie a pu être démontrée en appliquant des techniques de décomposition modale lors de la simulation 3D d’une pale de turbine turbulente sur une grille de plusieurs milliards d’éléments. En outre, cette capacité à pouvoir gérer plusieurs niveaux de grilles au sein d’une simulation a été utilisée par la suite pour la mise en place de calculs basés sur une stratégie multi-niveaux. L’objectif de cette méthode est d’évaluer au cours du calcul les erreurs numériques et celles liées à la modélisation en simulant simultanément la même configuration pour deux résolutions différentes. Cette estimation de l’erreur est précieuse car elle permet de générer des grilles optimisées à travers la construction d’une mesure objective de la qualité des grilles. Ainsi, cette méthodologie de multi-résolution tente de limiter le coût de calcul de la simulation en minimisant les erreurs de modélisation en sous-maille, et a été appliquée avec succès à la simulation d’un écoulement turbulent autour d’un cylindre. / Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) has become a major tool for the analysis of highly turbulent flows in complex geometries. However, due to the steadily increase of computational resources, the amount of data generated by well-resolved numerical simulations is such that it has become very challenging to manage them with traditional data processing tools. In Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), this emerging problematic leads to the same "Big Data" challenges as in the computer science field. Some techniques have already been developed such as data partitioning and ordering or parallel processing but still remain insufficient for modern numerical simulations. Hence, the objective of this work is to propose new processing formalisms to circumvent the data volume issue for the future 2020 exa-scale computing objectives. To this aim, a massively parallel co-processing method, suited for complex geometries, was developed in order to extract large-scale features in turbulent flows. The principle of the method is to introduce a series of coarser nested grids to reduce the amount of data while keeping the large scales of interest. Data is transferred from one grid level to another using high-order filters and accurate interpolation techniques. This method enabled to apply modal decomposition techniques to a billion-cell LES of a 3D turbulent turbine blade, thus demonstrating its effectiveness. The capability of performing calculations on several embedded grid levels was then used to devise the multi-resolution LES (MR-LES). The aim of the method is to evaluate the modeling and numerical errors during an LES by conducting the same simulation on two different mesh resolutions, simultaneously. This error estimation is highly valuable as it allows to generate optimal grids through the building of an objective grid quality measure. MR-LES intents to limit the computational cost of the simulation while minimizing the sub-grid scale modeling errors. This novel framework was applied successfully to the simulation of a turbulent flow around a 3D cylinder.

Cette thèse présente une approche d'analyse des textes non-standardisé qui consiste à modéliser une chaine de traitement permettant l’annotation automatique de textes à savoir l’annotation grammaticale en utilisant une méthode d’étiquetage morphosyntaxique et l’annotation sémantique en mettant en œuvre un système de reconnaissance des entités nommées. Dans ce contexte, nous présentons un système d'analyse du Moyen Français qui est une langue en pleine évolution dont l’orthographe, le système flexionnel et la syntaxe ne sont pas stables. Les textes en Moyen Français se singularisent principalement par l’absence d’orthographe normalisée et par la variabilité tant géographique que chronologique des lexiques médiévaux.L’objectif est de mettre en évidence un système dédié à la construction de ressources linguistiques, notamment la construction des dictionnaires électroniques, se basant sur des règles de morphologie. Ensuite, nous présenterons les instructions que nous avons établies pour construire un étiqueteur morphosyntaxique qui vise à produire automatiquement des analyses contextuelles à l’aide de grammaires de désambiguïsation. Finalement, nous retracerons le chemin qui nous a conduits à mettre en place des grammaires locales permettant de retrouver les entités nommées. De ce fait, nous avons été amenés à constituer un corpus MEDITEXT regroupant des textes en Moyen Français apparus entre le fin du XIIIème et XVème siècle. / This thesis presents a non-standardized text analysis approach which consists a chain process modeling allowing the automatic annotation of texts: grammar annotation using a morphosyntactic tagging method and semantic annotation by putting in operates a system of named-entity recognition. In this context, we present a system analysis of the Middle French which is a language in the course of evolution including: spelling, the flexional system and the syntax are not stable. The texts in Middle French are mainly distinguished by the absence of normalized orthography and the geographical and chronological variability of medieval lexicons.The main objective is to highlight a system dedicated to the construction of linguistic resources, in particular the construction of electronic dictionaries, based on rules of morphology. Then, we will present the instructions that we have carried out to construct a morphosyntactic tagging which aims at automatically producing contextual analyzes using the disambiguation grammars. Finally, we will retrace the path that led us to set up local grammars to find the named entities. Hence, we were asked to create a MEDITEXT corpus of texts in Middle French between the end of the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries.
