Smetana, Michal January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is the analysis and subsequent comparison of two different systems of central banking in the centrally planned and liberal market economy in the Czech Republic from 1948 until now. The basic parameters of the analysis are monetary policy, independence of central banking and the regulation and supervising of banking sector. The theoretical part deals with economic theory and the theory of central banking, especially monetary policy, exchange rate policy, theory of regulation, theory of independence, theory of supervising and how different economical schools are looking on this issue. Analytical part is divided into analysis and comparison of the two periods on the basis of specific parameters - legislative and legal anchorage, institutional support, monetary policy, supervisory function and independence. From the final comparison, based on the valuation of the pros and cons, is obvious that a system of liberal economy banking is more successful and more sustainable for the future, because it is based on a high degree of central bank independence, which is trying to fulfill its primary goals regardless of the ruling political power.

Alexander Hamilton and the National Bank.

Dimmitt, Bradley Todd 08 May 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this manuscript is to explain Alexander Hamilton's idea that a national bank was essential for America's survival. Three key ingredients, clarified through the use of letters and documents, are used to understand the importance of Hamilton's objective: 1) Hamilton's relationship with George Washington, discussed in chapter one; 2) James Madison's and Thomas Jefferson's arguments against Hamilton's ideas, discussed in chapters two and three; and 3) Hamilton's proposal for the bank and his opinion in favor of its constitutionality, including the idea that the necessary and proper clause expands the authority of government, discussed in chapter four. The prosperity and stability America experienced after the national bank threw open its door is proof that Hamilton's initiatives were needed. While James Madison is considered the Father of the Constitution, Hamilton is most definitely it foremost interpreter.

A profit-maximizing theory of national bank behavior

Hetherington, Bruce Warne January 1982 (has links)
The National Banking System operated during the 50 year period between 1863 and 1913. It was believed at the time of its conception that individuals seeking a national bank charter would do so for the privilege of issuing national bank notes. Paradoxically, for the majority of the National Banking System's existence note issue was of · relatively minor importance. The one exception where note issue was an important aspect of national bank behavior was the period between 1867 and 1873. The purpose of this dissertation is to examine this period when national bank note issue was an important aspect of national bank behavior and determine why note issue was so important. In order to determine this, a straightforward profit maximizing model is developed and various predictions are made concerning national bank behavior. These predictions are then tested and evaluated using actual national bank balance sheet data to determine if actual national bank behavior conforms to the predictions of the model. / Ph. D.

The banking operations of Lionel and Barron Jacobs in Tucson, Arizona, 1867-1913

Santiago, Dawn Teresa January 1988 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the financial careers of Lionel and Barron Jacobs in Tucson, Arizona, from 1867 to 1913. As early merchants, the Jacobs brothers discovered that cash and credit were scarce in the region, and in 1870 opened a money exchange and lending business. Then in 1879, the Jacobs brothers opened the Pima County Bank to serve the increased economic activity caused by the Tombstone silver discoveries. Mastering the details of banking, they developed management skills and insights. They organized and operated the First National Bank of Tucson (1882-1885), the Bank of Tucson (1885-1887), the Consolidated Bank of Tucson (1887-1890), and the Arizona National Bank (1890-1913). At retirement the Jacobs brothers were among the preeminent financiers of Arizona. A study of their banking experience provides a valuable perspective on the economic growth of southern Arizona during the late nineteenth century and mirrors the problems that bankers faced on remote frontiers.

Investiční bankovnictví / Investment banking

Tvarohová, Renata January 2014 (has links)
Investment banking is an important constituent of the financial market. As financial institutions, banks have an irreplaceable part in the functioning of the world's economies. Together with fiscal documents and financial markets they constitute the fundaments of the financial system. The financial market is a complicated system of interconnected relations of particular segments of the market, and investment banking is one such part. Its existence makes it possible to shift the savings of financial resources from saving subjects to ones in deficit by means of mediatory activities, which is performed with the help of various kinds of financial instruments, which are called investment instruments. The mediatory function of investment banking is a basic feature which makes a distinction between investment and commercial banking. Investment banks are main mediators that place released resources (savings) into the stock market. As is well known from the inherent laws of economy, the role of investments is crucial for a healthy circulation and functioning of the state economy. Without them the steady economic growth would be impossible. Due to these reasons I decided to analyse investment banking: its development and economic context, as well as the legal basis of these institutions and their activities...
