The purpose of this study was to determine the induction problems of temporary teachers in secondary schools in the Northern Cape Province. This aim was achieved by firstly embarking upon a literature study on the nature of induction and secondly on the induction problems of temporary teachers. Thirdly an empirical investigation was conducted on the induction problems of temporary teachers. Finally, recommendations were made through which temporary teachers' problems can be resolved. Findings from the literature study indicate that the temporary teacher encounters numerous induction problems that include administrative problems, problems with teaching and learning, management problems, interpersonal and other problems. Administrative problems include aspects such as late notice of a post, that no floor plan is presented, that school rules and departmental regulations are not conveyed to the temporary teacher, problems with internal administrative issues and a lack of an information brochure. Problems with the learning and teaching situation relate to issues such as poor lesson planning, a poor culture of learning and teaching as well as strikes by teachers. Management problems relate to issues such as in service training, classroom management, school environment, service contract, unfamiliarity with management style and a lack of acknowledgement Interpersonal issues include problems with collegial and learner relationships as well as problems with parent teacher contact. Other problems include aspects such as personal problems, privacy, versatility, future planning and continuity. Findings based on the empirical study indicate that the respondents encounter less (none too few) problems within the school as was reported in the literature study. However, there are issues such as redeployment of teachers, service contract, uncertainty about a teaching post, lack of parental involvement and a lack of writing and textbooks which pose problems for the temporary teacher. These issues do not lie within the sphere of the school itself but need the attention of the Department of Education. The recommendations of this study therefore emphasise the need for the Department of Education to take an in depth look into the last mentioned factors that are causing problems for temporary teachers. Furthermore it is to be recommended that temporary teachers can be part of the induction programme of permanent teaching staff seeing that their induction problems within the school are not of a serious nature. / Thesis (M.Ed.)--Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, 2000

Background: Now-a-days, the forces of globalization derive firms to go to international market. When a firm thinks to expand its business outside of the home market, it needs to explore the form of operation through which it will enter into the foreign market. International entry mode research deals with this matter. (Brouthers et.al.2007). Selection of an optimal entry mode strategy is very important because it is very difficult to change or correct and have a long-term impact on the firm’s foreign operation (Pedersen, Petersen, & Benito, 2002). Actually, it is very difficult for a firm to serve in the market on a permanent basis without a well formulated entry strategy. (Pehrsson A. 2008). Market entry mode strategies are influenced by both firm and country level factors and a firm must take into consideration these factors in choosing an appropriate entry mode. Purpose: The basic purpose is to gain a deep knowledge about the critical factors in selecting an optimal international market entry mode strategy to enter into an emerging market. The minor purpose is to justify the suitability of the target market. Methodology: Due to the dependency on subjective interpretation of text or other visual material and small sample was used to investigate the specific phenomena, qualitative method has been practised in this research process. Secondary data has been mainly collected from e-sources, and primary data has been collected through phone interview with the three foreign mobile telecom companies in Bangladesh. Findings: Bangladesh mobile telecommunication market is still attractive for the foreign entrants and the optimal entry mode strategy is joint venture to enter into the moderately attractive industry. Implications: The study has showed that international entry mode strategy is affected by various organizational, economical, Institutional, and sociological factors (categorized as country and firm level factors). This research has also provided relevant information to the potential foreign firms about which country and firm level factors should consider in formulating a well entry mode strategy in perspective of an emerging market.

In this paper we explore the determinants of changes in the industrial populations rates in Austrian manufacturing. The research questions whether or not the nature and causes of the net entry of firms across three different stages of entry-exit decision and firm growth are different. Our econometric analysis suggests that there are differences in leading to the determination of the entry and exit at different stages of the entry-exit decision, and that aggregate growth and disaggregate growth (measured in employment terms) play a major role. Ambulatory Computerized Provider Order Entry and PDA-Based Clinical Decision Support Systems: An Investigation of their Patient Safety Effectiveness via an Integrative and Systematic Review

Substantial research has been done on inpatient provider order entry systems with varying degrees of clinical decision support. Such studies have examined how these technologies impact patient safety as well as the quality and cost of care. However, given that most medical care and prescriptions are administered in an ambulatory setting, the dearth of research on ACPOE systems is quite astonishing. This knowledge gap demonstrates the need for an integrative and systematic literature review that attempts to assess the research done on computerized patient safety interventions in ambulatory care. This review’s findings provided adequate evidence that ACPOE systems are effective interventions for reducing medication errors. Other evidence further indicated that, in terms of functional capabilities, commercial ACPOE and e-prescribing systems may be catching up with their homegrown counterparts. PDA-based CDSSs were depicted as useful tools for raising adherence to guidelines and inducing safer prescribing. These findings suggest that ACPOE And PDA-based CDS systems show promise for improving safety and healthcare quality in ambulatory settings. ACPOE specifically, tended to have more advanced CDS attributes but, nonetheless, showed more negative results compared to the e-prescribing systems. Close scrutiny should therefore be given to the elements of decision support that ambulatory physicians find most useful.

DeepType: A Deep Neural Network Approach to Keyboard-Free Typing

Textual data entry is an increasingly-important part of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), but there is room for improvement in this domain. First, the keyboard -- a foundational text-entry device -- presents ergonomic challenges in terms of comfort and accuracy for even well-trained typists. Second, touch-screen smartphones -- some of the most ubiquitous mobile devices -- lack the physical space required to implement a full-size physical keyboard, and settle for a reduced input that can be slow and inaccurate. This thesis proposes and examines "DeepType" to begin addressing both of these problems in the form of a fully-virtual keyboard, realized through a deep recurrent neural network (DRNN) trained to recognize skeletal movement during typing. This network enables typing data to be extracted without a physical keyboard: a user can type on a flat surface as though on a keyboard, and the movement of their fingers (as recorded via monocular camera and estimated using a pre-trained model) is input into the DeepType network to provide output compatible with that output by a physical keyboard with 91.2% accuracy without any autocorrection. We show that this architecture is computationally feasible and sufficiently accurate for use when tailored to a specific subject, and suggest optimizations that may enable generalization. We also present a novel data capture system used to generate the training dataset for DeepType, including effective hand pose data normalization techniques.

Aerodynamic and performance characterization of supersonic retropropulsion for application to planetary entry and descent

Supersonic deceleration has been identified as a critical deficiency in extending heritage technologies to the high-mass systems required to achieve long-term exploration goals at Mars. Supersonic retropropulsion (SRP), or the use of retropropulsive thrust while an entry vehicle is traveling at supersonic conditions, is an approach addressing this deficiency. The focus of this dissertation is aerodynamic and performance evaluation of SRP as a decelerator technology for high-mass Mars entry systems. This evaluation was completed through a detailed SRP performance analysis, establishment of the relationship between vehicle performance and the aerodynamic-propulsive interaction, and an assessment of the required fidelity and computational cost in simulating SRP flowfields, with emphasis on the effort required in conceptual design. Trajectory optimization, high-fidelity computational aerodynamic analysis, and analytical modeling of the SRP aerodynamic-propulsive interaction were used to define the fidelity and effort required to evaluate individual SRP concepts across multiple mission scales.
