A Psicologia em Anísio Teixeira /Bortoloti, Karen Fernanda da Silva. January 2012 (has links)
This study examines the ideas and the role of the educator Anísio Spinola Teixeira from Bahia between 1920s and 1960s, focusing on his conceptions of Psychology, a science which was significant in the proposals and practices of the educational reform movement in Brazil. Based on the presupposition that the educator's thinking and achievements should be understood within the context in which they were developed, this work places the author's discourse in the historical period in which psychological knowledge was introduced in Brazilian education, as well as the renewal movement relationship with Psychometrics, Psychoanalysis and social sciences. The methodological approach employed uses the principle that Teixeira proceeds an appropriation of psychological knowledge and techniques recontextualizing concepts and statements due to the environment in which it is located. The study shows that the result of this appropriation is a unique and innovative discourse regarding the psychological knowledge contributions in education / Doutor

Spatial patterns of home renovation in Nova Scotia, 1971-1988Bruce, David January 1990 (has links)
Nova Scotia has a high percentage of homes which were built before 1946, as well as a high percentage of homes in need of repair relative to other provinces. The thesis addresses four major issues in light of these problems. First, how many Nova Scotians are renovating their homes, and how does this change over time? Second, what is the distribution of renovation across the province in settlements of different sizes? Third, what are the characteristics of renovators in Nova Scotia? Fourth, how has the involvement of the government, through funding assistance, affected the renovation process in Nova Scotia? Drawing on building permit activity, it was found that renovation is not increasing significantly across the province, with more activity occurring in urban and small town areas than in rural areas. Using census material and both published and unpublished data from an independent renovation survey, comparison of the characteristics of renovators and non-renovators are examined. Renovation in the Metro region is more closely associated with higher social status and financial security, while in rural areas virtually no characteristics stand out. Renovation touches many different types of households. The government programs at both the federal and provincial level were found to be well targeted to those areas in greatest need, and indeed the infusion of funds made a significant impact in encouraging households which might not otherwise renovate to do so. / Arts, Faculty of / Geography, Department of / Graduate

Migration and occupational mobility from a Nova Scotia coal mining town.Magill, Dennis W. January 1964 (has links)
Rapid and continued social change is a predominant feature of modern Canadian society. Indeed, one of the outstanding characteristics of our society is its complex and diversified economic growth since the end of the Second World War. One of the consequences of this growth is the opening of new resources: oil, natural gas,and uranium. However, the development of these natural resources has affected older, more firmly established industries, such as coal mining.
