Duarte, Mariana 18 August 2017 (has links)
Submitted by Paula Leal (pffleal@ucs.br) on 2017-12-12T11:59:06Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese Mariana Duarte.pdf: 14046975 bytes, checksum: 7c38d810e28513a818ddc136944aa220 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2017-12-12T11:59:06Z (GMT). Through image reading, we present the approximations and distances between images and words, as well how the chosen corpus for this analysis can be used as a research source, in bringing back historical aspects of a specific region encompassed by Italian colonization. In addition, to demonstrate the artistic language as a historical source, this study seeks to look at the art of numismatics – science that studies coins and medals. Prior to the images reading, a biography of Segalla is written, illustrating his trajectory as a labor rights’ militant, a characteristic that is expressed in his works. Segalla’s histories as artist, metalworker, and activist are merged with the history of Caxias do Sul/RS, passing by cultural events, like the Festa Nacional da Uva (“National Grape Festival”, in free translation), by the religion, and by the concept of work, which was built from the local narrative about Italian colonization and industrialization.

Poseidonia de 600 à 273 av. J.-C. Étude de numismatique et d’histoire / Poseidonia from 600 to 273 B.C. Coinage and History

Brousseau, Louis 20 November 2009 (has links)
This thesis is about the history of Poseidonia, a Greek colony of Southern Italy founded c. 600 B.C. It studies her history on the three centuries of her existence from every source which is possible to find. This first part forms the historical context on which the monetary history of the city relies on. The second part catalogues and classifies all coins that have been minted by Poseidonia between 530 B.C., when the coinage appears following the incuse technique, up to the last bronzes minted in the first years of the third century B.C. It analyses the monetary policy and reforms, and place them in their historical context.

Geld als Geschichtsquelle: Internationale Tagung über Münzbücher des 18. Jahrhunderts

Bürger, Thomas 03 June 2009 (has links)
Seit 20 Jahren verzeichnet Christian Edmond Dekesel (Gent/Belgien) in aller Welt numismatische Literatur des 16. bis 18. Jahrhunderts. –9. Mai).

Numismedica: Health Problems Caused by Coins

Olive, Kenneth E. 01 January 2009 (has links)
Coins occasionally cause health problems. These have a wide range of presentations and can affect multiple organ systems. This article presents a review of the medical literature addressing health problems caused by coins. These problems can be categorized as follows: (1) respiratory manifestations of ingested coins, (2) gastrointestinal manifestations of swallowed coins, (3) systemic effects of swallowed coins, (4) clinical management of swallowed coins, (5) allergic manifestations of coin exposure, and (6) miscellaneous health issues related to swallowed coins.

Settling differences : a comparative study of Yorkshire and East Anglia, focusing on the Scandinavaian influence on place-names and coins

Rome, Lisa 01 January 2010 (has links)
The Scandinavian invasion and settlement in England altered English history. However, while the basic political narrative is known from primary sources, the social and cultural history that evolved has not been fully examined. This is especially true in the areas of the Danelaw that the Scandinavian invaders settled where there is a paucity of primary sources for this period. The study was limited to the years 800 A.D. to 1000 A.D. or a shorter time span within that frame depending on the subject matter under examination. This thesis examined place-names and coins in East Anglia and Yorkshire to determine the Scandinavian influence on their development. By understanding the Scandinavian influence on place-names and coins, one may determine the settlement pattern that occurred in each area. It appears that the moderate Scandinavian influence on place-names as well as the deliberate assimilation of coinage to English standards indicates a small scale settlement that consisted primarily of higher ranking Danes. Yorkshire on the other hand demonstrates much stronger Scandinavian influence in place-name development as well as coinage thus indicating a larger settlement that consisted on lower ranking Danes. By determining settlement patterns, future research can focus on elucidating cultural changes that occurred subsequent to the initial settlement.

Au carrefour du Levant. Gaza et sa région des origines à la conquête romaine / At the Levantine Crossroads. Gaza and its region from the origins to the Roman conquest

Thévenin, Gaëlle 14 December 2018 (has links)
Historical research concerning Gaza and its region has long been limited to written sources. Archeological discoveries have recently been added to it thanks to different sources : the excavation of the Blakhiyah site on the coast, a particularly rich private collection and a monetary hoard discovered in Rafah. It is in support of all these discoveries and by taking up all the existing documentation that the history of Gaza and its region are reviewed by gathering all the numismatic, literary and archaeological information of this new equipment. Particularly for the Persian and Hellenistic periods, the documentary contribution of numismatics makes it possible to envisage a specific place in Gaza as a specific currency issuing workshop, with local influence by strikes to local types, and with a wider radiation by Athenian type strikes. In addition, the numismatic and archaeological discoveries thus uncovered allow to glimpse an old and deep dimension of the relations between the city and the Arab world, as well as the role of these relations during the Hasmonean and Roman period.

Royal coinage in Hellenistic Bactria : a die study of coins from Euthydemus I to Antimachus I

Glenn, Simon January 2015 (has links)
The history of Hellenistic Bactria (northern Afghanistan, and areas of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) is particularly obscure and its reconstruction contentious. Unlike other Hellenistic kingdoms very little evidence survives from literary sources and inscriptions; the best primary source is the large quantity of coins issued under the Graeco-Bactrian kings who ruled the area from the third century to the mid first century BC. With limited details of the find spots of the coins and only a few published hoards, their use has often been limited to a superficial analysis of their iconography. This thesis presents the results of a die study, an approach to studying the coins that can give many insights into the way they were produced. The coins of six kings (Euthydemus I, Demetrius I, Euthydemus II, Pantaleon, Agathocles, and Antimachus I) are included. Different mints and rhythms of production can be identified, and the overall size of the coinages estimated. Using a thorough understanding of their production this thesis proposes a new, soundly-based, history of the Graeco-Bactrian kingdom under these kings.
