Lövelius, Angelica, Bernhardsson, Angelica January 2023 (has links)
Background: Historically, nurses have been considered to see their profession as their calling and be able to offer endless empathy for the patient. However, research has produced the concept of compassion fatigue, which emphasizes that the endless empathy decreases due to the result of imminent stressors that the profession brings in modern times. The term compassion satisfaction has been used as opposite word to burnout and compassion fatigue. Aim: To map aspects that promote nurses' compassion satisfaction in care of patients. Method: A general literature review was conducted. 10 articles were found, 4 quantitative articles and 6 qualitative articles with the databases CinahlPlus and PubMed. Results: Three themes were identified; the development of nurses in the profession, nurses inner support and nurses external support. Findings: The factors that promote compassion satisfaction can be seen as tools in nurses' work in caring for patients. This can promote the capacity for compassion and nurturing and counteract compassion fatigue.
