Programy pro výpočet nejistoty měření metodou Monte Carlo / Programs for calculating measurement uncertainty using Monte Carlo methodNovotný, Marek January 2015 (has links)
The thesis deals with establishing uncertainties of indirect measurements. It focuses primarily on random number generators in software enabling the calculation of mea-surement uncertainties using Monte Carlo. Then it focuses on the uncertainty calculati-on indirect measurement as the Monte Carlo method and the classical numerical met-hod. The practical part deals with the verification of randomness generators numbers contained in various softwares. It also deals with the determination of uncertainties indi-rect current measurements by both above-mentioned methods and then comparing and evaluating the values achieved.

Level evaluation in octave bands: Is it reasonable when fitting hearing aids?Stolt, Petter, Wahlsten, Markus January 2023 (has links)
Background: Fine-tuning of the hearing aid amplification is done to validate the amplification. The patient's ability to describe the sound quality lays as a foundation for the fine-tuning. Aim: To evaluate a practice-oriented method for fine-tuning hearing aids. Methods: The participants (N = 18) listened to and evaluated the sound quality for a speech-material with randomized level modifications in the octave band 4 kHz. The sound quality was adjusted according to the participants' evaluation, until a normalized sound quality was perceived by the participants. Halfway through the examination the participants, as an intervention, listened to a briefing which explained and compared differences in the different sound qualities. Results: The participants level evaluation led to adjustment in the octave band that was statistically significant, but a normalization of the octave band could not be achieved. After the briefing a larger number of level modifications were adjusted with a statistical significance. Level modifications which were categorized as metallic/sharp more often led to a statistically significant adjustment compared to level modifications categorized as unclear/dull. Conclusions: If fine-tuning of hearing aids is done, the audiologist should be aware that bigger level adjustment in broad bands might be needed, for the patient to be able to notice a difference in sound quality in a clinical setting.

Based on the example of the beginning of the Allemande of the French Suite Nr. 5 (BWV 816), this paper discusses probable “meanings” (significations) of bass-notes and the chords above them. The goal is to explain and to apply a historically developed logic of sound progression (pre - Rameau and pre - functional harmony). The focus of examination is a principle of interval progression, introduced in the 14th century and valid ever since (at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis known as “Pi[iii…]P –principle”) and the resulting Rule of the Octave.

A risk based approach for managing information technology security risk within a dynamic environmentMahopo, Ntombizodwa Bessy 11 1900 (has links)
Information technology (IT) security, which is concerned with protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information technology assets, inherently possesses a significant amount of known and unknown risks. The need to manage IT security risk is regarded as an important aspect in the daily operations within organisations. IT security risk management has gained considerable attention over the past decade due to the collapse of some large organisations in the world.
Previous investigative research in the field of IT security has indicated that despite the efforts that organisations use to reduce IT security risks, the trend of IT security attacks is still increasing. One of the contributing factors to poor management of IT security risk is attributed to the fact that IT security risk management is often left to the technical security technologists who do not necessarily employ formal risk management tools and reasoning. For this reason, organisations find themselves in a position where they do not have the correct approach to identify, assess and treat IT security risks.
The IT security discipline is complex in nature and requires specialised skills. Organisations generally struggle to find a combination of IT security and risk management skills in corporate markets. The scarcity of skills leaves organisations with either IT security technologists who do not apply risk management principles to manage IT security risk or risk management specialists who do not understand IT security in order to manage IT security risk.
Furthermore, IT is dynamic in nature and introduces new threats and vulnerabilities as it evolves. Taking a look at the development of personal computers over the past 20 years is indicative of how change has been constant in this field, from big desktop computers to small mobile computing devices found today. The requirement to protect IT against threats associated with desktops was far less than the requirement associated with protecting mobile devices. There is pressure for organisations to ensure that they stay abreast with the current technology and associated risks.
Failure to understand and manage IT security risk is often cited as a major cause of concern within most organisations’ IT environments because comprehensive approaches to identify, assess and treat IT security risk are not consistently applied. This is due to the fact that the trend of IT security attacks across the globe is on the increase, resulting in gaps when managing IT security risk.
Employing a formal risk based approach in managing IT security risk ensures that risks of importance to an organisation are accounted for and receive the correct level of attention. Defining an approach of how IT security risk is managed should be seen as a fundamental task and is the basis of this research. This study aims to contribute to the field of IT security by developing an approach that assists organisations in treating IT security risk more effectively. This is achieved through the use of a combination of existing best practice IT security frameworks and standards principles, basic risk management principles, as well as existing threat modelling processes.
The approach developed in this study serves to encourage formal IT security risk management practices within organisations to ensure that IT security risk is accounted for by senior leadership. Furthermore, the approach is anticipated to be more proactive and iterative in nature to ensure that external factors that influence the increasing trend of IT security threats within the IT environment are acknowledged by organisations as technology evolves. / Computing / M. Un Monde pour les XX: Octave Maus et le groupe des XX :analyse d'un cercle artistique dans une perspective sociale, économique et politique / A World for the XX: Octave Maus and the Groupe des XX :a study of an artistic circle from a political, economical and social perspectiveGoldman, Noémie 13 June 2012 (has links)
/<p><p>This PhD thesis concentrates on the mechanisms by which the artistic world in Brussels was reorganized at the end of the 19th century. The research focuses on the places, institutions, publics, art markets and aesthetic developments that characterized the new artistic scene constructed around the “Salon des XX”. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that this artistic circle, led by Octave Maus, produced an art influenced by social, political and economic issues. Another aim has been to analyze the public that defended the artists by studying its social, cultural and generational nature.<p>This thesis, which is divided into two parts, for the first time explores the circle of the XX in its economic, political and social environment. The diversification of sources and scientific methods was therefore an essential aspect of the research. Different methods were applied such as, for example, the cultural history, the sociology of art, the history of the art market, political sciences and the visual culture.<p>The first part of this study is about the emergence of a new artistic scene founded around the “Groupe des XX”. The first objective was to investigate the personal and professional path followed by Octave Maus, the manager of the XX, who played a major role in the evolution of the cultural world. Subsequently the research focuses on the mobilization of a particular public and the creation of a new art market around the XX’s exhibitions.<p>The second part of this thesis considers the works of art created by the artists of the “Groupe des XX” and chosen by the public for private collections. New light is shed on this artistic production by the study of the social and political position of the XX’s public, considered as a social group. Hence the iconographic and stylistic analysis of the works goes together with a study of the XX’s milieu, and in particular with its political action. The present thesis, and the method that aims to study the works in parallel with the public’s social nature, lead to a better understanding of the cultural milieu and, at the same time, of the originality of the XX’s artistic creation.
