No. of bitstreams: 1 Midiã Olinto de Oliveira.pdf: 1973767 bytes, checksum: 8f0486eccbfaca774e192ce1c114e4fe (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-01-29 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / This research investigated the insertion period of beginner teachers in nursery education in a municipal school of Guarulhos, with focus on the analysis of pedagogical activities proposed, reflecting on possible contributions and limitations of professional education. Besides that, difficulties faced by inexperienced teachers and their objective work conditions are described and analyzed. The main hypothesis is that teachers’ practices is oriented by a habitus composed of dispositions that allow the mobilization of different knowledge to promote learning and development of children. The research data were obtained during 2016, by questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and observing the performance of four teachers, two of them experienced and two of them new. For the analysis, historical-cultural theory and its conception of development and of the teacher’s central role in the organization of teaching were adopted. Also Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of habitus and cultural capital were used. The data analysis pointed to the prevalence of spontaneous and unplanned practices, as well as to formative experiences that reflect social conditions in which the education of small children in the public school occurs. The access to knowledge is poor and there is limited and restricted participation of children in the activities.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Monie Fernandes Pacitti.pdf: 785779 bytes, checksum: 404357f8dd7e6c08b8f0f0e6ada9db19 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-02-09 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / One of the alternatives found by pedagogical coordinators to improve the performance of their duties has been to return to university. The Professional Master's in Education: Training of Formators of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo - PUCSP (Formep) has welcomed these professionals who seek theoretical and practical support for the development of their varied attributions, in order to contribute to their professional development. It was based on the assumption that the understanding and challenges of the practice would be contemplated by the moments of theoretical deepening, exchanges of experience and learning of the research of the professional practice of these pedagogical coordinators. The general objective of the research was to investigate the contributions of Formep to the professional development of the pedagogical coordinators of the Municipal Education Network of the city of São Paulo. It was adopted as theoretical reference Marcelo (2009), Vaillantt and Gaibisso (2016), Libâneo (2015), Placco and Almeida (2011, 2012), André (2016). The research was based on the qualitative approach, with data collected through semi-structured interviews with five pedagogical coordinators of this municipal school system and who studied the first three classes of Formep (2013, 2014 and 2015) and analysis of pedagogical documents concerning the creation and regulation of Formep and a municipal law decree that deals with the attributions of these coordinators. The method for data analysis followed the assumptions of Prose Analysis (ANDRÉ, 1983). The results show that the Professional Masters contributed to the professional development of the pedagogical coordinators, since the main challenges faced by them, the teacher training in the school and the interpersonal relations, were object of reflection and analysis about the role of these coordinators, which led to changes in the Special Action Project (PEA) and the transformation of interpersonal relationships, as well as to active listening and appreciation of teachers. In addition, the research carried out allowed a more critical and reflexive look at the practice and it was given a new meaning, thus resulting in a more investigative attitude towards the work developed in schools by these pedagogical coordinators / Uma das alternativas encontradas por coordenadores pedagógicos para aperfeiçoar o desempenho de suas funções tem sido o retorno à universidade.

Human resource development for the performance of schools in White Hazy Circuit, Mpumalanga Province

Thwala, J. B. January 2015 (has links)
Thesis (M. Dev.) -- University of Limpopo, 2015 / Although a number of studies have recognised the relationship between human resource development (HRD) and organisational performance, the mechanisms through which HRD leads to school performance remain still unexplored. The purpose of this study is to clarify the significance of human resource development and its effect on school performance in the White Hazy Circuit, in Mpumalanga Province. HRD plays a critical role in directing school programmes and the realisation of the set goals. Educators and the management of the schools are the engines in the operation of the school. Alignment of the individual goals to the school goal creates a comprehensive working environment. The purpose of HRD is to build a capacitated workforce that will enhance school performance. Performance management does not entail one activity only, it is part of the employee development life cycle. The results of the survey indicate that performance management and the development processes should not be underestimated. School managers should ensure that goals are clearly communicated. Thus, this study does not only support that HRD has a positive influence on school performance but also explains the mechanisms through which HRD improves school performance.

Developing a training program for the traffic alert and collision avoidance system in context

Fleming, Elizabeth Scott 26 March 2013 (has links)
The Traffic alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) is an aircraft collision avoidance system designed to prevent mid-air collisions. During an advisory, danger is imminent, and TCAS is assumed to have better, more up-to-date information than the ground operated air traffic control (ATC) facility. Following a TCAS RA is generally the safe course of action during an advisory. However, pilot compliance with RAs is surprisingly low. Results from a TCAS monitoring study show pilots are not complying with many TCAS advisories. As revealed by pilot-submitted Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) reports, this noncompliance could be attributed, in part, to pilot confusion to TCAS operation as well as misunderstandings of the appropriate response to a TCAS issued advisory. This thesis details the development and evaluation of a TCAS training program intended to improve pilots' understanding of TCAS use for collision avoidance in a range of traffic situations. The training program integrated Demonstration Based and Event Based Training techniques. Its efficacy was analyzed in an integrated ATC-cockpit simulator study in which eighteen commercial airline pilots were asked to complete the TCAS training program and afterwards experienced twelve experimental traffic events. The trained pilots' performance was compared to the performance of 16 baseline pilots who did not receive the modified training. Overall, the training program did have a significant impact on the pilots' behavior and response to TCAS advisories. The measure Time Pilots First Achieved Compliance decreased with the trained pilots, as did the measure Autopilot Disconnect Time After RA Initiation. Trained pilots exhibited less aggressive performance in response to a TCAS RA (including a decrease in the measures Altitude Deviation Over Duration Of RA, Average Vertical Rate Difference, Maximum Vertical Rate Difference, and Maximum Vertical Rate). The measure Percent Compliance did not significantly vary between trained and baseline pilots, although trained pilots had a more consistent response in the traffic event with conflicting ATC guidance. Finally, on the post-experiment questionnaires, pilots commented on their increase in understanding of TCAS as well as an increase in their trust in the advisory system. Results of this research inform TCAS training objectives provided by the FAA as well as the design of TCAS training. Additionally, conclusions extend more broadly to improved training techniques for other similar complex, time-critical situations.

Skills and technological innovation for global competitiveness : a case study of Portnet's Durban Harbour (PDH)

Mzaca, Happy T. T. January 2001 (has links)
There has been a global move towards involving people in process of change by developing organizations technologically, providing skills training and building capacity in all sectors of society, in spheres of government, the economy and civil society. As a result of global trends in South Africa attention is being given to the question of skills development and technological training within institutions and organizations operating in the developing environment in the public and private sector. Attention is also given to ensuring that such skills development and training includes goals of social, economic and political development. In the view of the above, this study will examine the question of skills development and technological training at Portnet Durban Harbour (PDH) in view of changing demands imposed by globalisation and new socio - political environment in South Africa as well as national responses to those demands. In examining this question, it would be recognised that the skill question couldn't be isolated from technological changes and increased economic competition resulting from globalization. Within this context, this study's aim would be to detennine the response of PDH to global challenges that impact heavily on the skills needs of this organization and technological changes. It will also examine whether PDH's responses take into account the current legislative and policy objectives in SA aimed at addressing the skill question. This study is infonned by Labour market theory and globalization theories. The first part of this study will attempt to capture the historical policies and legislation's on the issue of skills development in SA. Reflecting on the role played by this policies and legislation's to segment the labour market. Secondly, the study will look at debates on globalisation and the era in which organizations are operating. Thirdly, the role played by the SA government in this global era to reverse the past skills development imbalances. Lastly, the study will report on PDH's response to challenges imposed by globalization and how they address the question of skill. / Thesis (M.A.)-University of Natal, Durban, 2001.

The role of non-formal skills development programmes in improving livelihoods of marginalised learners : a case study of three FET colleges in the Durban area.

Pillay, Gnanam. January 2006 (has links)
The study examined the role of non-formal skills programmes at Further Education and Training (FET) colleges in assisting marginalized learners in their livelihoods. The high rate of unemployment and poverty in South Africa, and in Kwazulu-Natal in particular, highlights the need for non-formal programmes to be more responsive to the developmental needs of marginalized learners, and to the economy. There is a need to move away from programmes that are run in isolation, towards programmes that are more responsive, creative and holistic. A case-study of three different non-formal skills programmes from each of the FET colleges in the Durban area were used in the study. These included Coastal, Sivananda and Thekwini FETI's. The reason for choosing different programmes, was to get a broader picture of skills programmes offered at FET colleges. One of the programmes was a Welding one offered at the Swinton Road Campus of Coastal College. The second programme was the Organic Farming one offered at the Mpumalanga campus of Sivananda College, and the third programme was the Cooperatives one offered at the Asherville campus of Thekwini College. Interviews with learners comprised the primary data, while documents, observation and interviews with personnel comprised secondary data. The three different programmes provided an interesting contrast. While the Organic Farming programme and the Cooperatives were fairly new, the Welding programme had been in operation for some time. There were also differences in the design and implementation which impacted on the learners' ability to improve their livelihoods. Learners in the Organic Farming programmes for example, were technically unemployed. Yet they were producing organically grown vegetables to sustain themselves and their families. In contrast, learner in the welding programme were unable to find employment on completion of the programme. Using the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach used by international Aid agencies in developing countries as a bench mark, the programmes were examined to establish whether they were assisting their learners in developing sustainable livelihoods. What emerged was that there was a strong correlation between the design and implementation of the programme and the learners' ability to transfer skills to improve their lives. Programmes that provided support to learners aside from the actual training content tended to be more successful than programmes that focused only on training. The more a programmes incorporated the principles of SLA (responsive and participatory; learner-centred; conducted in partnerships; linking micro and macro-level activities, holistic and sustainable), the more they were able to assist learners in developing their livelihoods. / Thesis (M.Ed.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2006.

An evaluative study of the motivation of adult basic education and training (ABET) in industry.

Hoosen, Fatema. January 2000 (has links)
My venture into the field of ABET (Adult Basic Education and Training) began in 1994 as a community based tutor and coordinator of ABET programs. In the past six years, setting up and co-ordinating ABET programs together with individuals and organisations, has been my main endeavour. This experience has led me to the realisation that the key to successful literacy programmes is attendance and the motivation of learners. Since I have not had much experience working within industry, my impressions and picture of ABET classes conducted at the workplace have always been vague, so I chose this area of focus for two reasons. Firstly, this would widen my knowledge in workplace literacy programmes by reading widely on the topic, and secondly, it would afford me the opportunity to meet and find out attitudes from learners themselves. I would be able to find out and see personally what is actually taking place at the floor level in ABET classes in this sector. Since ABET classes are offered to learners at the workplace, I wanted to know about their aspirations and gain first hand knowledge of their motivation to attend, more so because of the current focus on the promotion of literacy in commerce and industry. Thus, this study aims to find out whether workers are motivated to attend ABET classes in the workplace. The place where I conducted my research is the Beacon Sweet and Chocolate factory in the Mobeni Industrial area of Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal. / Thesis (M.Ed.) - University of Natal, Durban, 2000.

The Efficacy of the skills development act in the manufacturing and retail sectors - Pietermaritzburg areas.

Singh, Amritha. January 2006 (has links)
This study is concerned with the efficacy of the Skills Development Act in promoting skills development and training in South Africa. Skills development and training was examined in the context of the 30 manufacturing companies and 20 retail companies based in Pietermaritzburg. Firstly, the literature study provided a foundation on which to base the idea that skills development and training is vital in order for a country to achieve economic success. Secondly, efforts of other countries in promoting skills development and training were examined. Thirdly, skills development and training was examined in the South African context. The literature study lent support to the idea that there is a need for skills development in South Africa, considering factors such as HIV/AIDS, the shortage of scarce skills and labour demand trends in the South African labour market and the South African economy. The field study involved the use of questionnaires to gather data from the respondents. The results of the field study were group into pre-defined variables. The variables were then correlated and hypothesis testing was conducted to test the relationship between the variables. The main conclusions of the study are based on the hypothesis testing and the results of the field study and are detailed below. 1. The perceived effectiveness of the Skills Development Act was found to be a positive correlate of the effectiveness of training, the application of effective training procedures, the percentage of employers conducting formal training and the percentage of training costs recovered from the SETAs. 2. Training was perceived to be effective in terms of employee learning, employee performance and organizational performance. 3. There was an even split between companies that applied effective training procedures and those that did not. 4. Compliance with the Act was a pre-requisite for selection of the sample, however full participation in the Act was found to be lacking in general. This means that the majority of companies in the sample did not submit Workplace Skills Plans and Implementation of Training reports. 5. Compliance with the Skills Development Act was found to be a correlate of the application of effective training procedures, assistance received from the SETAs, the perceived effectiveness of training and the perceived effectiveness of the Skills Development Act. 6. It was generally perceived that the assistance received from the SETAs was poor. 7. On-the-job training was found to be prevalent in all companies; however formal training was more prevalent in companies that have a large number of employees. The average rate of formal training was calculated as 29.64%. 8. The number of employees was found to be a correlate of the percentage of formal training conducted, the percentage of training costs recovered from the SETAs, the perceived effectiveness of training and the application of effective training procedures. / Thesis (M.Com.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2006.
