Olympijský park Lipno: zhodnocení ekonomického dopadu projektu / Olympic Park Lipno: Economic Assessment of the Project

Binderová, Monika January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the economic impact of the Olympic Park Lipno. First of all, it describes the so-called mega sport events and their impacts, especially the economic ones. Furthermore, the ex-ante and ex-post studies and crowding out effect are characterised in the research. In addition, two analyzes which are described in detail in the thesis were prepared by KPMG. The research method is a questionnaire survey with all information gained at the Olympic Park Lipno. The questionnaires and the collection of secondary data allowed us to proceed to comparison of the researched studies and, in particular, to the calculation of the economic impact.

Evaluation of Experiences from using CEEQUAL in Infrastructure Projects : A case study of the Crossrail programme and the Olympic Park

Johansson, Rebecca January 2011 (has links)
CEEQUAL is a British assessment and award scheme for improving sustainability in civil engineering and the public realm. The scheme was developed in 2003 and has gained recognition in the UK and Ireland. The interest in CEEQUAL is starting to spread to the rest of Europe and to the Swedish Transport Administration.   The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the scheme from the perspective of the experience of implementation using two case studies in the UK – a road project and a railway project. The road project is represented by a subordinated project within the Olympic Park, a development for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The railway project that is being studied is the Crossrail programme, a large railway project in London. The objectives for this thesis are to: Review experiences from CEEQUAL awarded projects and to evaluate what additional sustainability benefits the award has given infrastructure projects compared to using normal standards. Identify costs and resources required for a CEEQUAL Award. Identify if it is possible for clients to require the use of CEEQUAL and stipulate a certain rating. The results from the two case studies are analysed and applied on the Swedish Transport Administration, together with information about CEEQUAL and the definition on sustainable development. Some of the conclusions of this thesis are: That the effect CEEQUAL will have on a project’s sustainability performance depends on what the normal standards are as well as the client’s requirements. The CEEQUAL scheme provides structure for projects to work with environmental and social issues. CEEQUAL makes social issues more visible and creditable. There is need for something that complements CEEQUAL to be able to say anything about project’s environmental impact, for example EPD or Carbon foot printing. It is important that CEEQUAL is a part of the working process otherwise it will cost extra time and money to do the assessment. It is possible for clients to have CEEQUAL as one of the requirement within the procurement process. It is also possible to require that a project is delivered with a certain CEEQUAL rating. Finally, my recommendation to the Swedish Transport Administration is to use CEEQUAL and apply for the award for different representative project and implement the CEEQUAL-thinking in their normal standards for all projects. If they register certain selected projects they can meet the requirements from the government commission and this can also work as a way to calibrate how they are performing on environmental and social issues to the rest of the industry. CEEQUAL can also work as an environmental quality assurance in projects where EIA isn’t mandatory.

Megaeventos e direito à moradia: como opera o empreendedorismo urbano no contexto do neodesenvolvimentismo. O caso do Parque Olímpico no Rio de Janeiro / Mega-events and the right to housing: how the urban entrepreneurialism operates in the context of neo-developmentism. The case of the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro

This research aims to investigate an ongoing process, where the strategy of entrepreneurship in the management of urban public policy has been adapting and conforming to the current context of economic policy called the neo-developmentism. Thus, the role of public-private partnerships stands as fundamental in the management of urban development within the three spheres of power. Discuss, therefore, the history of political reforms in the country that led to the adaptation of national developmentalism to the new developmentalism policy, to understand the context in which thec urrent public-private partnerships have been developed as a model for managing the territory. In Rio de Janeiro, with the choice of city to host the Olympic Games, and also being one of the host cities of the FIFA World Cup in 2014, several of territorial transformations began. In addition to evidence that a series of violations were to come in order to make room and expand the market for private investments. The Olympic Park, the main site of the 2016 Olympics competitions, appears as an immense business opportunity with private enterprise, locatedon a broad expansion of the real estate market in the city: Barra da Tijuca. Thus many poor communities have suffered from the policy of forced displacement to make way for investments in theterritory. In this context, is the Vila Autódromo community, well established local side of the venture. The removal of this community is planned in the feasibility study and in de concession contract. Therefore, we will study the public-private partnership held for the construction of the Olympic Park, through the analysis of documents related to the bidding process and the selection of the winning consortium. Yet, as this project has impacted the case of Vila Autódromo community, which in addition to having been the target of other attempts of eviction, was subject to a policy of land regularization in the past and has a strong history of resistance and struggle for permanence.

Scalar politics : sustainability planning under Localism and the delivery of London's Olympic legacy

Hoolachan, Andrew January 2017 (has links)
This thesis seeks to address a research gap concerning the relationship between the Localism Act 2011 and planning’s central purpose of achieving sustainable development. In addition it uses a physical example in urban space to illustrate the main arguments, and in doing so adds to the growing literature on the various outcomes since the Localism Act was enforced across England in 2011. The thesis asks four inter-related questions: Firstly, regarding the theoretical bases of sustainability and localism from the various ontologies of ‘scale’ and ‘the natural’; secondly, regarding the general conflicting assumptions within localism and sustainable development; thirdly, regarding the ways in which sustainable development is inherently multi-scalar; and lastly how our case study example highlights the need for policy-makers to examine the often overlooked trade-offs which exist in normative sustainable development models. The thesis also demonstrates the role that site-specific research can play in grounding theoretical and policy discussions. The research is situated in the rapidly changing sub-region of East London, particularly in the shadow of the 2012 Olympic regeneration of Stratford and the Borough of Newham. We take the example of a failed upgrade due the Localism Act, of a multi-scalar and multi-functional ‘Greenway’ to consider the relationship between localism and sustainable urbanism in the context neo-liberalism. Methods comprise site-based analysis in the form of walking, photography and note-taking, the analysis of national, metropolitan and local planning documents, as well as interviews with officials related to policy and design in the area and local residents. The research finds that national and metropolitan conceptions of sustainable development are weighted differently to those at local scales. In addition the Localism Act exacerbates planning capacities between Local Authorities and the communities they serve. There are some opportunities for neighbourhood planning but these are dependent on local capacities, widening already-existing socio-spatial inequalities. The thesis concludes by destabilising the widely used idea of sustainable development as a ‘balance’ between social, economic and environmental needs. Viewing sustainability through a scalar lens, in our case using a physical site and the policy of Localism, we are able to reveal the material differences between sustainable development agendas which have been criticised for masking over conflict in a post-political manner for the continuation of ‘status quo’ economic development trajectories.
