Development Of A Video-enhanced Online Pre-service Teacher Training System: A Case Study

Bayram, Levent 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Video has been used in educational settings for several years by means of videotapes. However, the use of digital video is not very common in schools and training institutions. Moreover, the literature reports not much about using online video in teacher training purposes. This current study presents an online video-based pre-service teacher training environment, offering online video cases for teacher training purposes. The first purpose is to develop an online video-based training system for teacher training. The online teacher training system includes online video cases on various topics in teacher training. The second aim of this study is to understand what student teachers think about the video cases in the online training environment. The first phase of the study was implemented as a pilot study, and the main study included two cycles of action research. The subjects of the study were students of the Faculty of Education at Middle East Technical University who were enrolled to the CEIT321 - Foundations of Distance Education course. The evaluation of video based training questionnaire was administered to the participants and individual interviews were conducted with a selected group of students according to questionnaire scores. The results of the questionnaire proposed that the students had positive attitudes for the online video cases included in the study. In the interviews, the participants indicated their comments and proposed some improvements regarding the technical aspects and the content of video cases. Participants&#039 / reflections about the video cases and course web server logs also provided parallel findings supporting the interviews and the questionnaire.

Kommer traditionell TV att dö och vad är egentligen TV? : En studie av hur företrädare för TV-branschen ser på play-tjänsternas betydelse för TV / Will traditional TV die, and what does TV actually mean? : A study of representatives of the broadcast industry’s view on online video services’ effect on TV.

Larsson, Adam, Stivén, Torbjörn January 2012 (has links)
Since a few years back television has been on a verge of an enormous digital change. Web-TV is now growing at an incredible rate and is said to completely change the way we consume TV. The purpose of this essay is to determine and gain an understanding of how representatives of the broadcast industry looks at the phenomenon of web-TV and especially the different kinds of online video services and how they believe this will affect the television. Methods used are qualitative interviews which we compared with previous studies on the subject and acknowledged communication theories. The respondents were people with good insight and understanding of the media and TV industry. Some of the conclusions made are that the representatives believe television needs to be redefined and that there has been a shift in power in favor for the viewers. We have also seen that the representatives believe TV consumption now is more flexible where it’s no longer bound to a specific time and place.

"Ni måste se det här klippet" : En studie av gymnasieungdomars Youtube-vanor / "You have to see this clip" : A study of Swedish young peoples use of Youtube

Rost, Richard, Sandström, Oskar January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to show and explain how and why Swedish young people use Youtube. We conducted a written survey, asking approximately 120 students between the ages 16 and 18. The survey was carried out in the classrooms in order to receive answers from as many students as possible. We then interviewed six of them to gain further knowledge of why they use Youtube the way they do. The survey showed that Youtube is used by all of the students and very frequently by most of them. Comedy and music videos are by far the most popular genres that are viewed. In most cases watching video clips on Youtube is a social activity, often combined with both talking about clips and sending and receiving video links to and from friends. Very few upload videos of their own. Explanations as to why they watch video clips on Youtube can be found in the uses and gratifications theoretical approach. We found that the primary uses of Youtube seem to be motivated by the need for entertainment and filling time. There is also an important social context to the viewing since many of the students talk with their friends and classmates about what they have seen.

Designing an Interactive Video Editing Tool for Teachers

Bonnevier, Jesper January 2018 (has links)
This study aims to find the answers to how an online interactive video editing tool for teachers to use would be designed. To find out the answers to this, students studying to become teachers and experienced teachers were interviewed and used for observations and usability testing of a prototype. In total there were 27 unique data gathering situations with 11 unique participants. The five teacher students who were participating were all teacher students at Linnaeus University in Växjö. The six experienced teachers have been teaching for many years and are currently lecturing teachers about new technology that can be used in the classroom. The result from interviews, observations and literature search contributed to a list of requirements which in turn became a prototype. What has been discovered is that teachers need a tool which is easy to use with interactions and functions such as adding clickable annotations to clips and creating playlists which will help teachers plan ahead and save time during lectures.

Supervising Teaching Candidates Using Face-to-Face and Virtual Observations: Perceptions and Preferences of Special Educators

Smith, Barbara M 01 April 2018 (has links)
Providing effective supervision of student teachers and interns is critical in preparing quality special education teachers. To decrease the time commitment of supervisors, researchers have suggested using virtual observations which are generally viewed as a valuable resource. This study examined the experience of teacher candidates supervised with a combination of face-to-face visits and video observations. Groups of university faculty (supervisors) and students (teacher candidates) from a western university participated with both methods of supervision over three years and provided feedback to researchers. Results highlighted participants satisfaction with the supervision process, including advantages and concerns with each type and ways the combination of methods gave added value and efficiency. Benefits of using the combination of observation types, which was most valued by both supervisors and candidates, were convenience and flexibility of scheduling, opportunities for self-evaluation, and the nature and timeliness of feedback. Future research might focus on using the combination of supervision methods with licensure candidates in other groups of professionals and teachers or examine specific aspects of using the technology.

Filmspridning och ny teknik i samband med huliganvåld : En studie om hur filmklipp sprids och hur dagens teknik används av svenskafotbollshuliganer och supportrar / Film distribution and new technologies in the context of hooligan violence : A study on how video clips are spread and how today's technology is used by swedish football hooligans and supporters

Hozali, Jafar, Uddin, Shafi January 2009 (has links)

We have in this study preformed a quantitative examination on how hooligans use film and new technologies to spread private videos on the Internet. With today´s technologies it is very easy for hooligans to publish their videos. In this study, we have choosen to do a questionnaire poll based on seven questions about what people think of hooliganviolence on online video sharing sites. We have also conducted an online interview with a former swedish hooligan. The people who participated in our study are all anonymous, and therefore we have no age or gender included in our study. Most of the videos discussed here are used as entertainment, according to their publishers/viewers, but also as a method of advertising the supporterclubs of different teams. Following our study we can conclude that new technologies have a huge importance for the spread of these videos.

[en] AN EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF CONSISTENT HASHING WITH BOUNDED LOADS IN ONLINE VIDEO DISTRIBUTION / [pt] UMA AVALIAÇÃO EXPERIMENTAL DE HASHING CONSISTENTE COM CARGAS LIMITADAS NA DISTRIBUIÇÃO DE VÍDEOS ONLINE

BERNARDO DE CAMPOS VIDAL CAMILO 14 December 2018 (has links)
[en] Video consumption accounts for a large part of Internet traffic today and tends to increase further in the next years. In this work, we investigate ways to improve caching in video content delivery networks (CDNs) to reduce their response time and increase the users quality of experience. From the analysis of different techniques, we concluded that consistent hashing with bounded loads has interesting characteristics for this purpose and fits adequately to the video delivery scenario. In order to verify its performance, we created an experimentation platform and, using data from a real video CDN, confronted it with the consistent hashing and the least connections balancing method, all implemented in an equivalent manner to permit a fair comparison. Lastly, we discussed the results of this evaluation, highlighting the benefits and limitations of this technique in the considered context.
